Hello! I find myself in a similar situation, except that I’m still considering which bird to adopt. If you are looking for good pigeon content, check out the Crazy Pigeon Lady channel, she’s great!
I am so glad you and handsome Leporello are back!! I've been binging your videos recently; I found you through your molting tips video, since my husband got a male European Goldfinch from a pet store in New York City a couple of months ago. Our bird has a lower left leg problem (now named Dr. House), and only eats very few kinds of seeds, but otherwise, not so bad picking up from a pet store this time, I'm not sure where else I could get European Goldfinches in the US though. Our goldfinch thankfully started molting after giving him liquid Calcium Plus and Iodine (Morning Bird brand) he's probably almost halfway through now. The liquid vitamins have been helping his leg quite a bit, he can rest on it now, when he couldn't before. My husband insists we keep his cage in a box (with part of it open) until his feathers fall and grow back, and insists that our bird is sensitive to light while molting. My husband had already tried to put him in a closet (with the door open) to help Dr. House molt, but he only started molting after providing him liquid vitamins since he's an extremely picky eater. I feel terrible keeping our goldfinch in the box, so I keep him out, in a place he feels comfortable, whenever I can. Your tips have really helped me bond with him, he plays when he's around me and out of the box/closet, and he's started crunching his beak! He only makes sounds preparing to sing, but hasn't sung yet, and doesn't make sounds like yours or at least, I haven't heard them yet. Sorry for the long comment, I just mean to say that your advice helped so much that our goldfinch enjoys being around me now; he stops playing when I have to stop being close to him or if I'm not looking at my phone or something else for too long, he'll stare at me until I return my gaze to him. I'm trying to tame him more, he doesn't like being out of his cage, and I'd never pressure him about it, but I've been able to get much closer to him than the beginning thanks to your extremely valuable advice! Danke schön für deine harte Arbeit und Einblicke! 🙏🏼💎💙
Thank you for your lovely words, and good job taking the bird out of the box. During the winter months, birds need more light, not less - in the form of artificial lighting, that is. There are specialised bird lamps which do not flicker, and it's a good idea to have such a lamp on top of the cage, hooked to an automated timer. Six or seven hours a day should do the trick - ten to twelve in the summer months, with a transitionary period in between. If you roughly go by sunrise/sunset times, you're doing a great job. Good lighting will ensure your feathered friend will moult at the right time next year. That said, Leporello just finished moulting himself - so maybe it's just been a crazy year!
I am so very happy that you are back!! I have a canary and your videos are really helping me to understand and care for my bird in the best way. He also, loves watching your videos and always responds when Leporello "speaks". Happy new year and I am very excited for the upcoming videos. ❤❤

Lovely to hear from you again! 🎶 Happy New Year, Signore Leporello! Alas, 2020 was a tricky year health-wise for a number of us. Thank you for your words of kindness and concern! The brain is a remarkable thing. My silly bird boy is beautiful and doing well. He’s quite the conversationalist! Unfortunately, he simply doesn’t seem to enjoy his time outside his cage, and he’s had years to acclimate at this point. I even covered the windows with paper to block his view outside. No more than ten minutes outside and he races to press himself against the windowpane, and fluffs out his feathers in stress. I simply don’t understand. He’s a different bird in his cage: confident, assured, curious, even comical. I hate to confine him to his cage, but it seems to be what he prefers... I suspect it’s an innate personality trait from his breeder’s stock, but otherwise I am stumped!
@@icy_icenhour That sounds like an ordeal which I cannot even imagine. Respect to you for getting through all this! The Korngold is wonderful, I hope it will bring you great joy! The classical music business can be merciless, and it's nice to have these oases of pieces one loves to play. I'm quite confused with Punkitititi's behaviour as well, to be honest. Is he as stressed when he is in the cage, yet able to see outside the window? If he's racing to the window to communicate with the birds outside, he might just be lonely - in this case he is likely to mellow out if another bird were to be introduced. Just a thought. Or maybe an avian vet could be consulted during one of his checkups?

Welcome back! Leporello is so cute. I'm curious - Do you ever take Leporello out into the natural sunlight? I've recently put an extension out my backdoor to the backyard that leads into a large aviary for my Zebra Finches, so now they basically have free-flight inside and outside, for all 50 of them lol.. but they absolutely love the natural sun, and weather like wind and rain. Just curious to know if Leporello gets to experience the elements too, despite living in a nice apartment!
So happy to get an update from you! I can’t thank you enough for the videos you’ve posted so far. I have two canaries, and taming them has been quite difficult, but your videos really have been soooo helpful! I really hope that Leporello will get better soon. He’s such a good boy! Happy new year, and stay safe!
Thank you for your kind words, and happy to hear we could help! It's comments like yours that motivate me to keep up this channel. Happy new year to you, too!
@@leporellothegoldfinch Is it possible for you to do a finch/canary diet video once? I do think that would be a lot of work, considering all the research that has to be done, but I’d love to see how to take better dietary care of my babies. I also haven’t found any videos on finches and canaries, only parrots. I have done as much research as I could, but I’m still new to the bird world and don’t have much information about what to look for. Congrats on your new apartment btw! It’s very prettyy!
A video about your experiences with the different bird species you've kept would be cool! Or just short ones of Leporello being cute would be good too. :)
Amazing channel with great content for all of us ornithology fans. Can you suggest some books on european goldfinches, where I can find out more about this amazing bird? Or any other forest bird would be very interesting. I always wondered how do you know soo much about these birds... Where did you do all this research? 😃 Keep up the great work 👍
Lovely question! I'm afraid to say most of what I know comes down to 20+ years of experience. But I really love reading old birdkeeping instructions from the 18th and 19th century, which are now mostly available in digital form on Google Books. Birds were a major source of entertainment in that period, and there's some great stories - e.g. about goldfinches that were trained to play fetch, pull little carts, and even to fire tiny cannons. But I digress... the internet can be a great resource. I'd just advise to avoid general pet sites (they often have no clue and post poor, even misinformed articles to get clicks) and to consult sites made by long-standing bird breeders.
Hey could u do a vid on everything u feed your bird and what your treat it with? That would be very helpful for me and I’m sure more new bird owners I would also like to know stuff like what to put in your bird cage like toys for my bird to play with and places it would feel safer in cause my birds new and still scared of me 🥲 I’m working on that tho and your videos r veryyyy helpful 😁🤩

I would really appreciate if you would add some tips on canaries too, bcs I have a canary and there is not a lot info about them:) Thank you
Really glad you didn't abandon the channel. That's what I thought. You said you shouldn't buy from pet shops. Where do you suggest to buy from instead?
Nice to see you! You're right. I recommend buying from a reputable breeder instead. Breeders have a greater interest in keeping their birds healthy, because they keep them for longer than pet shops and (usually) aren't just in it for the profit.
Would love to watch a video on how to administer medication to your finch. I have an Australian Gouldian Finch and I believe I will have to take him to the vet due to some type of flee. I’m scared to administer medication because he is not tamed and is very scared of humans. I tried taming him with your videos but it didn’t work. I must’ve done something wrong obviously, just don’t know exactly what. Love your videos. Hope to see you more on 2021. Happy New Year
Good idea. Unfortunately there is not much you can do to avoid touching your bird when administering flea (or as I rather suspect, mite) infestation, short of scattering diatomaceous earth in the cage and on the perches. A trip to the vet will still be necessary. Gouldians are highly sociable animals and must be kept at least in a pair. They will never get tame if kept alone, because they will be constantly stressed and afraid of everything.
I really would like to know where I can can the thistle you use to train your bird. What kind is it? And how can I buy it. I am in New York and lack......meadows lol
I want to take my cocktiels out but they aren't tamed yet one is scared and other isn't scared but trys to bite sometims its been 4 days should I take them out yet or should I let them be in they eat from my hand so I think its enough bonding . If u think I am ready for taking them out of cage......tell me how should I get thm out and how to put them in . I saw one of your video in which yuo told how to put back but didn't help for me I mean like is there any other way
I wanted to ask regarding bird habits do you not worry about him popping everywhere when he's o it of the cage ? I let my male canary out of the cage and he pooped literally everywhere and I struggled to put him back in the cage as his female companion was looking at him
I know this is a bad timing by lepporello being sick, hopefully he recovers fast, but I just stumbled across your channel after i bought 2 canaries because this is my first time taking care of birds.I have a question. Should I keep them in the same cage, if not what should I do if I don’t have another cage.
You're quite right, you should never grab your bird - he will never get tame if you keep doing that! Birds remember your voice and even smell, so he will know it is you even if you turn off the light. Instead, only feed him in the cage, and give yourself + your canary a time window (!) rather than a fixed time until when he needs to go back. Birds tend to go back into their cages at least once every 30 minutes if you're not feeding/watering them outside, so just be patient. If your canary doesn't go back no matter what, he is not comfortable with his surroundings, and you should definitely start at the very beginning of the bird-taming playlist!
@@leporellothegoldfinch yeah, I know, he somehow got out of his cage when I left him for one minute. So I had no choice, it was sunset time, and he didn’t want to get in his cage, he was there for like an hour, soooo. I mean, I will try to tame him (I’ve been trying for 7 months lol)
I have a canary and i managed to tame him but not 100% i mean i did a mistake while doing the taming and i put my hand inside his cage Now whenever i put my finger specificallly near him it gets frightened and start to fly away it only comes to my arm Now i have no idea what to do to fix this
Hi there, start over by respecting his boundaries! He will start trusting you again if you take things slow and treat him as if he was untamed. Which means, in the foreseeable future, only approach him with a treat in your hand! He will eventually make the connection hand = good again.
He didn’t fly away because he was unhappy. Maybe he was, but that’s not the point. He flew away because you were careless and didn’t close the windows before letting him out of the cage. Perfectly happy birds will also fly away just to check out the outside or because something spooked them, and will get lost and never be able to find their way back in. You must either train your birds to free fly outdoors or keep them inside with doors and windows closed at all times.
7 months, 7 months of waiting, and it was worth it
So was waiting for this comment

Hey, glad to see you still around!
Can I make some Ideas for videos? Grab a tea, relax it will take a long time. I would really appreciate if you would write this in your notes or something so you won’t forget.

I will edit this and add some more ideas. I would really appreciate if you would add some tips on canaries too, bcs I have a canary and there is not a lot info about them:) Thank you
Awesome ideas, going right on the list :) Thank you!
You and your bird are wonderfull ♥
Thank you ♥
@@leporellothegoldfinch Do you have an instagram page ?
Miss u all ♥️
Would love to watch a video on how to administer medication to your finch.
Happy New Year
Awesome idea
💗
aww poor little bird I hope that she will be better
Que bonito 👍👍👍👍
Yay you’re back 😆
Heyy, first of all happy new year!! And can you make a video that you show how to get him out of the cage alone.pls
You should make a Q&A vid that'd be amazing
Awesome idea!
@@leporellothegoldfinch I'd love to watch a Q&A!!
Video idea : a day with my lovely bird....🌼🌼
Love it! Going right on the list.
Aw thanks for considering my idea💐 by the way I tamed my cockatiel by seeing your videos, thank you
I really would like to know where I can can the thistle you use to train your bird. What kind is it? And how can I buy it. I am in New York and lack......meadows lol
Short answer: You can't. You need to find them in nature.
Please make many videos from where did you buy lepporello you said don't get a bird from a pet store so where should you get it from
A reputable breeder is best!
😍♥️🐦

I want to take my cocktiels out but they aren't tamed yet one is scared and other isn't scared but trys to bite sometims its been 4 days should I take them out yet or should I let them be in they eat from my hand so I think its enough bonding . If u think I am ready for taking them out of cage......tell me how should I get thm out and how to put them in . I saw one of your video in which yuo told how to put back but didn't help for me I mean like is there any other way
🎉🎈🎊🎈🎆
Hey when are u uploading? Its been a long time
🥳
Long time no see you
How frequently do you cut his nails ?
I wanted to ask regarding bird habits do you not worry about him popping everywhere when he's o it of the cage ? I let my male canary out of the cage and he pooped literally everywhere and I struggled to put him back in the cage as his female companion was looking at him
Leporello is housetrained to a large degree, but you can minimise messes by supplying bird perches for your birds to sit on.
YAY LEOPRELLO IS BaCk
I know this is a bad timing by lepporello being sick, hopefully he recovers fast, but I just stumbled across your channel after i bought 2 canaries because this is my first time taking care of birds.I have a question. Should I keep them in the same cage, if not what should I do if I don’t have another cage.
Yes, keep them in one cage, especially if they already know one another and get along well!
@@leporellothegoldfinch Thank you very much.
omg i was so worried
First view
Nice
I have four zebra finches I barely know we're to start 😭😭😭😭

Watch this ruclips.net/video/Au2v1V92X8A/видео.html and the birdtaming playlist.
Hi, how are u again? Its me, an annoying fan again:) I love u
I have a canary and i managed to tame him but not 100% i mean i did a mistake while doing the taming and i put my hand inside his cage
Now whenever i put my finger specificallly near him it gets frightened and start to fly away it only comes to my arm
Now i have no idea what to do to fix this
Hi there, start over by respecting his boundaries! He will start trusting you again if you take things slow and treat him as if he was untamed. Which means, in the foreseeable future, only approach him with a treat in your hand! He will eventually make the connection hand = good again.
@@leporellothegoldfinch ill work with that advice thank you very much
hi.. i have one like yours i want your mail to share about our expérience
Share your experience here, I'm sure many people would like to hear it!
My goldfinch flew away he wasn’t happy please ppl take care of your birds and make sure they are happy 😔
