So the difference between "about" and "bird" is mainly in accent right? The word bird is with a stressed vowel whereas the letter a in the word about is without stress/accent. Am I right?

Well done
There are very many American ways of pronouncing the vowels. Many Americans confuse pin and pen, others not. Some Americans confuse sat and set.
Thanks

Oh!, thanks!
The combination of letters that the English language uses to represent vowel sounds is much more difficult than Portuguese, for us it is almost like an enigma.😲😲😲
I guarantee that portuguese is more difficult than english, i'm brazilian.
@@lais9671 In general context it can be said that yes, but in the combinations of govals the issue is inverted. In the phoneme _/ i /_ alone there are 9 different combinations for the same phoneme.
Nice

Actually how do you defrenciate Hurt, Heart, her or hearts vs Hurts. Those are the areas I straggle to get it right.
You have to learn how to understand the different parts of the mouth where these vowels are produced. For example: the u in hurt is considered a rounded vowel because your labia (lips) form an o shape. Now when you say the word heart, the e in the word is unrounded and the mouth is slightly opened. The correct term is "tense". I would suggest you look in the mirror as you say these words to see how the mouth and jaw move. Good luck!
