    One of the many incredible things about this game is it's living active ecosystem. There are no scripted events and everything makes it's own choices independently of you. These creatures don't exist simply for the player's sake, they exist to survive and to serve themselves. Don't think of them as monsters or enemies. Think of them purely as animals
    Also make sure to enable the "more slugcats features" in the remix option, it adds a lot of interesting and useful stuff that makes for a more complete experience

    • @AxiomArchives
      @AxiomArchives  10 месяцев назад +20

      That's a really good way of looking at it! The fact that everything is random is insane to me. And yeah, it nails how it feels to be an animal in an ecosystem of other animals, learning to adapt and survive. And I'll make sure to check out the extra features when I next record! It'll just be a bit because I've already recorded a little more since the initial session.

      honestly one of my favorite things about this game is the fact that it is always being simulated even if you aren't in the room so for example while you can be looking for food lizards can just be running from a vulture

    So it begins! I'm curious whether or not you'll be persistent enough to actually finish the game. It has quite a reputation for a reason and I thinks that's easy to spot from even the first minutes. The core of it's difficulty lies mostly in how little it tells you. To me that's it's biggest flaw and strength.
    While simplistic at first glance, it's so full depth in mechanics and lore people still discover new things, yet at the start it just throws you into the deep end leaving you to figure evereything out which makes a lot of people bounce off of it. Can't blame anyone for doing that, it's definitely not for everyone, but to me that's the core of what makes it special. It crafts it's world and living ecosystem, in time, making you behave like an actual animal, approaching new things with caution and curiosity, learning through trial and error and climbing up the food chain as you gain experience and uncovering mysteries. It's seriously rewarding.
    Now on the gameplay side. I'd like to give you some tips for you to read if you want them. (although i know you record in advance) I don't really consider them as spoilers since as I said the game tells you nothing, you'll learn the eventually but they are so useful it will make your life so much easier:
    -Our Slugcat will always throw things in it's right hand first, very important to know when dual-wielding.
    -Double pressing grab will switch the items in your hand.
    -Holding eat when you are full or with a non-edible item will make you swallow them, hold it again to regurgitate it back, that's basically your only one item storage for important things.
    -Things you are able to grab like rocks and spears will shine very slightly if you walk near them.
    That's about it, I'll let you figure things out but if you need any tips I'll be watching :P

      So far, I plan on finishing it! I'd like to think I have the persistence to beat these kinds of games, even if I don't have a lot of experience with them lol. I can see why it has the reputation that it has. The concept of the game is simple on the surface (at least from my understanding so far), but in practice I can see how complex and hard it would be. Out of curiousity, do most let's players not finish this game?
      I love how this is put, because I can absolutely see it just in the few hours I've played. The living ecosystem and the way it makes you behave like an animal are on full display. In order to do well in the game, you have to learn your abilities, and then adapt based on your abilities, and the game does a great job of conveying how you place in the natural order of things. I'm not sure I've uncovered any mysteries yet, but the world has already peaked my curiosity, and I'm looking forward to finding out more!
      These tips are fine! The fact that other people liked the comment told me that they were ok to read lol. I've actually already learned 2 of them: The shining thing and switching hands! I didn't notice the thing about throwing with the right hand first. The mechanic of switching hands makes a lot more sense now lol. And idk if I would have learned the storage mechanic, that's really neat! I'll try to keep that in mind as I go!
      And yeah, thank you for letting me figure stuff out on my own. If I need help, I'll say "feel free to let me know in the comments about X thing". I hope you enjoy the series!

      @@AxiomArchives I've not seen many playthroughs but it seems to be a bit of a mixed bag. What I actually noticed is that it's the bigger youtubers that seem to drop the game more often (Markiplier is an example). It does make sense though. Rain World has quite the loyal fanbase (I think you can see from the response so far) and gained some popularity but it's still a niche game. Covering newer, bigger and popular game is always more alluring than playing a hard and confusing one that doesn't get as much traction.
      Even steam reviews often say you either drop the game after suffering for few hours, or stay to love it.

    • @AxiomArchives
      @AxiomArchives  10 месяцев назад +6

      @@jmt7240 Interesting! I either didn't see or completely forgot that Markiplier didn't finish it. Right now I don't see myself dropping the game (although if Silksong comes out before I finish it, that may force my hand xD). I can definitely see how loyal the fanbase is. The response from everyone on this episode alone has been amazing and heartwarming to see! That, on its own, makes me wanna see it through. I just hope that the experience resonates with me enough that I'll want to keep going for my own enjoyment as well.

    Yaay, welcome to the Rain World!! (where everything wants to eat you)
    It is indeed a game about exploration, so play it however you like and just have fun! As soon as you get used to the movements, I think you'll be fine and able to fully enjoy it, so don't worry and take your time. You're just a tiny slugcat in an unfamiliar world after all! Everything else is about experimenting and experiencing it yourself, so I won't spoil anything 👀
    One of many fun things about this game is their creatures. They are just there, living their own life, silly, aggressive or... maybe cute sometimes??
    Anyway, have fun!

    • @AxiomArchives
      @AxiomArchives  10 месяцев назад +7

      Thank you xD yeah I'm trying to go into it with a mindset of exploration and learning. I feel like if I do that, the difficulty won't get to me as much, and it'll be more fun overall! I wanna be the most adventurous slugcat :P
      The creatures are actually a lot of fun so far! Like encountering them is scary, but I love how each one actually behaves like an animal. Like they're super unpredictable, and it feels really authentic! I have yet to come across a cute one though lol.

    Keeping track of all the creatures in order of them appearing in the video.
    Slugcat - an intelligent and agile rodent. Very low on the foodchain. Cannot go through some tunnels while other creatures can. The player character. Eight are cannon, appearing in this order: Spearmaster, Artificer, Hunter, Gourmand, Survivor, Monk, Rivulet, Saint. One secret non-cannon playable slugcat, known as sopthantiel/inv/??? , who has the hardest story by far.
    Batflies - small flies that survive only by reproducing faster than they can be eaten.
    Blue "fruit" - theorised to be young batflies before metamorphosing.
    Pink lizard - one of the twelve lizard variants. Average strenght speed and size. Can climb poles. Just like all lizards their armoured heads are immune to spears, but striking the area with a rock flips them over. Special attribute: If you make them angry enough they will chase you until one of you is dead.
    Green lizard - bigger faster and stonger than the pink variant. Cannot climb poles. Mentally handiccaped. Territorial, will fight other lizards. Special attribute: they can charge at their prey.
    Noodlefly - big and long bugs. The small ones are worht two food. Their mothers are overprotective and will kill anything it conciders a threat including other noodleflies.
    Karma flower - yellow flower. Upon ingestion prevents you from losing karma the next time you die. Works only once and cannot be stacked.
    Batnip - red flower. Attracts batflies. You didn´t eat it only swallowed it and may regurgitate it back out.
    Pole plant - tall carnivorous plant. Pretends to be a pole and reacts to touch. Throw a spear into it to injure it enough for it to go into its tunnel.

    Incredibly excited to see you play one of my favourite games! It definitely doesn't explain much, you get to explore and look at things and if you are attentive to the world and even the UI, you get rewarded.
    It can be rather harsh and unforgiving, and until you learn the (occasionally quite awkward) controls well enough it can also be rather frustrating (many deaths from pressing the wrong button or missing a jump), but once you get into it the movement system lets you do a lot of cool stuff!
    There is no real 'fail' or 'game over' condition as far as I know, though. If you keep on dying you just stay on the first 'experience level' until you get better.
    Hope you'll enjoy your experience as a smol slugcat, finding their way in the wild, hungry world!
