- BBC documentary on the life of British sitcom actor Paul Eddington. This footage belongs to the BBC but has been uploaded in response to its withdrawal from the UK DVD version of Yes Prime Minister. It is available in the United States but not here in the UK.

Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne and Derek Fowlds 🙏💕
Paul Eddington was a brave man. Ravaged by the skin cancer that eventually killed him (having first ended his career as an actor on stage and television) he was interviewed in unspairing close up by Sir Jeremy Isaacs in the "Face to Face" series. This was in 1995, the year that he died. I have never forgotten this. He had such dignity and grace. An erudite but humble man with intelligence and presence. Sorely missed.
A much deserved appreciation of Eddington's magnificent comic talents. As much as I love Nigel Hawthorne as Sir Humphrey, I always thought that Eddington's superb acting abilities were always much underrated (by Awards committees etc.)
RIP Paul eddington and Nigel hawthorn both fantastic actors and made yes minister and yes prime minister such a classic series

We in Japan has this image on England that nothing ever goes wrong there. The Empire with style and dignity, rectitude maintained by the Sovereign, all the ceremonies with wonderful costumes - this is England in Japan.
Virtually no one in Japan is aware of oppressive wives, or high unemployment and people living rough in places like Liverpool.
Anyway, we all love England and English people in Japan.
Paul Eddington is a unique actor, it's a pity that actors are often held hostage to one role. And of course financial problems. Paul would perfectly play a dramatic role, and a melodrama, and a detective. How wonderful he is in Mrs. Marple. And how undeservedly deprived of famous directors, films and awards.
And it is a pity that theatrical performances were not recorded on video earlier. We are modern, we will no longer be able to enjoy his theatrical works.
May his Soul be rewarded by God. I am grateful to him for his work and talent, which he managed to realize no matter what.
Why is this not repeated as often as the good life?

We in Japan also have a sort of image on men in England - they are not interested in sex. How we ended up with this kind of image, I cannot tell.
Strange as the statistics say Japanese men have less sex.

@tnakai1971jp i thought you were kidding :) i'm sure every country has it's share of shrill wives, drunken boors, and hopeless bureaucrats- as well as the more enjoyable types.
As for that image, i've heard that idea expressed before by fictional characters, and seen it in films, probably it started long ago from some social discrepancy between the peoples. all stereotypes come from lack of understanding, don't they.
