God...what are the actual odds of this draw happening? Wow
Boy, this video is great. Beating a Portal and Jin-Gitaxias with the Trespasser (that was called) in game 1. Archfiend at work. ("Math is for blockers, but sometimes they just don't do the math"). Burning out mono red ("I can draw burn spells, too"). The instant scoop ("My reputation precedes me.") and the scoop to the Archfiend ("Creature too big, red be scared"). And of course the ultimate "shuffler is fine"-moment with three lands in play and three Archfiends and four Invokes in hand. And just when you think it can't get any more entertaining ("I want to report a bug"), we get that epic hype portion for the Jinions. Sir, you outdid yourself.
Totally agree, this was some of CGB's best work in terms of game play and sheer entertainment value- all while climbing upper tier Mythic.
Still mad about the clutch trespasser :)
10/10 review for a 10/10 video

Let me just say how much I appreciate you turning this whole Jin thing into an ongoing saga with all the videos. It's been so entertaining and so much better than if you just played it the next week. You grow the channel and we all get entertained!

@@driklol Have to watch CBG's Invoke Justice Boros deck. He was guaranteed to when until his opponent with a 130 pile played a random Prismatic Bridge and out of all the cards in the pile it could've hit it dropped a random Jin Gitaxis at a critical moment and just shut CGB out the game! It was insanity because that was the perfect hit and probably only hit that could've beat CGB in that moment to the point where it felt like complete nonsense!

After watching that first game, it looks like Jinny G should have spent less time making music and more time preparing for battle.
I also love how you can just instantly see how much CGB doesn't want to lose to Jin again, as he becomes so much more focused and serious whenever a Jin-Gitaxias hits the field.
Nice to see a "I must win or quit magic" card in standard (on of the awards that Limited Resources grants to one card each set)

Swapping out a couple of Sheoldred's Edict for 2 Go for the Throats seems really good with this deck because of the added utility of being able to remove your own Dross to prevent it from killing you. Great deck!
I run a split between these 2 in all my black decks, not just ones that need to kill our own Archfiend sometimes. They are good in slightly different situations and it's just good to have the option if you draw a bunch of them. I used to run a split with Infernal Grasp before we got Edict, but there's just no need for that card at all anymore, which seems crazy because it's one of the better constructed-playable "1B Removal" that exists in its own right, and just goes to show how insanely good Black removal is in Standard right now!
Playing all 4 is better if you just want to see how the card performs though. You just get to cast it more often and see when it's good or bad.
@@Icameron259 they are great against trespasser and fleshgorger, the odd indestructible, and also the rotpriest decks. I think that plus Planeswalker removal makes it more than reasonable to run. Have 2 in most of my decks and been very happy with it.
@Hugo Guerreiro I think when Planeswalkers aren't prevalent it's just a strictly worse removal spell than Grasp/Throat.
Na, if you're going to play Dross, you should be going all in. No way to remove it yourself. Victory or Death.

Fateful Handoff. Archfiend at one counter, give it to them. If you are willing to go golgari, Glissa can remove counters to do it faster. You only lose on your upkeep, so you can have no oil counters before that

I've been playing Archfiend with Vraska, Vat Emergence, and 1x Monumental Facade. Only dropped to 1 counter in a single game.
So if you're really worried, you could probably play more risky frames if you include just one of the safety mechanisms.
Holy value play, batman. i just turn 4 batman, turn 5 double edict, one mana 2/3 kill, and attacked for the win! It was awesome!

It was really cool in that game where you had like the best hand in the history of magic. 3 6/6 flyers and 4 invoke despairs, the stuff of legend.
i haven't lost yet cause of the text on this card, however i am terrified by a blue "don't untap" aura

Ah yes, the new philosophy for 4 drop creatures in Magic like Sheoldred, Archfiend, Vindicator, and Obliterator. Either the opponent kills it on sight or it singlehandedly wins the game. Wonderful design right there.
I guess Obliterator isn't technically new, but Magic didn't really play to the board back then the way it does now.
@@AaronRotenberg better than a 4 drop that does nothing and still dies to removal at least like that the opponent needs removal or he loses
though vindicator is kinda garbage compared to the rest of the list, myriel and serra paragon are both better 4 drops
mondrak is good as well but he has a much more restrictive effect compared to the other 2 that are just good 4 drops
That first game was insane! It's crazy that reanimator can just keep coming even vs several graveyard hate pieces, ironically even benefitting from it at first 😆

This is an aggro deck so it's already fine as it is, but come on, there's a potential combo with Fateful Handoff when there's only one oil counter left on the creature that HAS to be tried in a proper control/jank shell
The opposite is true where if the demon didn't have that loses two life on it, it would still be good but not as threatening. But like cgb said, demon is either going to beat your opponent to death, or they're going to kill it on the spot

Before watching... isn't there a way to put oil counters on things or transfer them from one thing to another? That'd be a way to make the oil text irrelevant as well.

The first game is basically the sword fight from Indiana Jones - took a sword to a gunfight. NEVER. DIDN'T. HAVE IT. :D
haven't watched yet and just seeing the deck list and recently built my own dross deck but a G/B version with Fight rigging and found drown in Ichor and it's proliferate ability really helpful to remove a creature and add another counter to the Drosses to have another turn. Why not put in the side board or change for cut down? Or 2/2 split?

Wp that first game, that was amazing
After a great run with this deck yesterday I hit Mythic. I'm 64 - 28 (69%) with it. 73% on the play (34 games) & 67% on the draw (58 games). It's a lot of fun to play and typically gets a win in 3 or 4 minutes. Thank CGB!
Misery's Shadow has some pretty bad anti-synergy with Archfiend, since the creatures my opponent controls don't die.
Unfortunately, Atraxa Grand Unifier will eat this card alive and CGB filmed these before those decks really took off.

I’ve given this thought, there is one card (don’t remember the name) one black and three colorless, it’s a sorcery where you give your opponent a creature you control, and you draw cards equal to its power. It’s a horrible card, but man would it be fun to just hand over your Dross to the opponent with one oil counter on it and watch them loose. 😈😈
There is another dimir saga with 1st chapter to exchange 2 creatures. From Kaldheim.

The only time I'd be worried about Archfiend not finishing the job is if it gets tapped down and you have no sac outlet. Probably highly unlikely. I also think the oil counter text can be ignored.
Aw, my mono black Archfiend / Corrupt deck has 80% win rate for me this week, now everyone will have this deck.
The Prophetic Breach has occurred and the Prosthetic Eyebrow is calling to us. Fragrant and well-aged dairy products await the Jinions as we cross over the Prognostic Bronchitis 😅
To be honest I have been play testing my Dross in paper and totally forgot or didn't look at its ability as the deck wins even without the drain for 2 but OMG makes it even more OP!

Clearly the oooonly reason why oppo lost with gin gitaxias in play was that it came in play with invoke justice and not prismatic bridge. 3 more colours and 70 more cards would seal the deal
And within five days, nobody plays red anymore. Oh wait, that's the matchmaker not matching this deck with red (on the play anyway)
