He didn't even answer the question of the video. Which one is better? I was expecting him to take a bunch of pictures using the different films and then look at them to judge which ones he thinks look better. Surely this type of subjective assessment is possible right? All he had to do was take a photo of his dog with each camera then show them both. Then repeat for a scene outside, then repeat for a portrait of two friends. Then he could look at them and say "I like this one better" and "I like that one better" as he shows the audience the photos so they can judge too. Nope.

@@JustAnotherChris Ha! You did better than I could do, that's for sure. The video quality was great, the content was great, you covered a lot of details that nobody else covered and you put a lot of time and effort into the video. I liked the video more than my previous comment would indicate.
But the title lured me in looking for an answer and "there isn't a best" was underwhelming.
It wasn't so much a problem with the video as it was my expectations. But those expectations were primed by the title.
      I was expecting:
Polaroid vs. Fuji, Which is better?
      I feel like I watched:
      Polaroid vs. Fuji, Lets Compare!
      That's all.

The instax is a better system. I pulled out my wide camera that i haven't touched in 15 yrs and shot a pic that turned out good. Didn't even put new batteries in it. Polaroid just has too many issues, super sensitive to light when it comes out of the camera, it's very temp sensitive and so on. But as time progresses on it will get better.... Side note, i watched a documentary about Polaroid and one of their chemists said temperature affects the film because it changes the thickness of the developing paste. Thinner and it favors one color and thicker it favors the other...hence why you get overly blue or pink images. Also side note just bought a Now Gen 2 so going to play with Polaroid again...last Polaroid i used was the Sun camera... My first camera (6 yrs old) was a Polaroid that you had wait 30 sec and then peal the negative and positives apart. That was a great camera. Further follow up. Used the new polaroid and not a single picture came out reasonable. Everything was very contrasty and with very little dynamic range. Gave up on Polaroid and moved onto a Instax SQ6 and an Instax Mini 90. I did contact polaroid and they say that my pics were normal.

  • @TranscendentalAirwaves

There isn't even a contest, Instax wins. Better color, less susceptible to heat or cold, better cameras, better formats and it's cheaper and ubiquitous. It's such an easy question, bish bash bosh. lol Also better control with Polariod cameras PUH-LEAZE, Lomography, Nons SLR, and Mint make cameras with glass lenses and waaaaay more control than any Polaroid camera offers. I've even got an old Polaroid 110A that's been converted to Instax Wide and the colours and sharpness is honestly mind boggling for an instant format. Plus being able to do long exposure with an Instant camera (which any Lomography Instax camera can do or any of the other ones I listed) is incredible. That honestly was what really sold me on the slightly more expensive Lomo cameras, that and glass lenses.
Also don't me wrong I have two Polaroid cameras on my shelf but personally I'm not really into pinkish photo's that are always a bit underwhelming so they tend to just sit on my shelf. I used to have a regular old One-Step boxy 600 camera when I was younger though and I mean you said it yourself the new stock just doesn't compare. If new Polaroid would sort out their formula and start offering 10 shots a pack for a slightly more reasonable price then maybe I'd shoot it more but until then I only break it out for special occasions because the film is so unreliable and expensive.

@@JustAnotherChris Oh for sure, at least the third party ones. I'll give you that the main Fuji ones are a bit bleh but the Lomography cameras are impressive with the amount of control you have over the image for a point and shoot. I do wish Lomo would make a wide with a glass lens but the version of the Automat with the glass lens is freaking incredible. I can take photos indoors with no lighting except whats coming in the windows (and my house is not bright) and they come out like I'd expect a digital or 35mm camera to do (Exposure wise I mean). Sure you can't use your phone with them but it's an analog format and personally I didn't even carry a phone until just a few months ago. lol

IMO the point of instant photography is the imperfections of it. Normally I'd say that's a bad thing, but that's why I also have a DSLR.
Instax looks too much like digital to me, while Polaroid has so many quirks that affect how the photo will turn out. I love how temperature can influence the color for example, or what you do while it's developing. It really embraces the playful aspect of film photography.

i wonder what most of the people in the comments get out of instant photography. while yes, fuji is better in looks and ease of use if i wanted fuji looking photos i would take the photos with my phone and print them out later, that'll give me the same results. for me polaroid is better because of out temperamental it is and how much care needs to be put into it plus the photos look more vintage which is the main selling point to me, fuji photos look TOO good. in todays day and age why would i want a perfect looking photo when i can get that in several other ways? thats not the point of instant photography to me. only thing ill 100% agree with is the price point, fuji is way better on that front

Only one shop had polaroid camera - one step 2 (with very nice price - 320pln, 75-80 euro). In my country (Poland) instax film is at least x2 cheaper than polaroid itype if you buy polaroid in the biggest pack and it can get to x3 cheaper if you want to buy film one pack at a time. So now I only have to choose which instax I'm gonna buy - easily available sq1 or hunt for sq6 that is at least x2 more expensive for both cameras used.

I just bought a Mini 7s the other day and had no idea why, mainly cause its stupidly cheap. But shooting with it after a while, I learned the best way to utilize it is to shoot it horizontally so you get that W I D E shot makeing it like a mini wide film camera ( totally not ). So thats why it makes perfect sense that the first mini Instax camera has two shutter buttons, one placed in front as usual and the second on the side of the camera.

I started using Polaroid when it was the peel film. In the 80's I got an SX 70. I have SX photos than are now over 20 yeas old and they still look good. I still have that SX and it still works fine. I now also own the Polaroid I type camera. Nice they brought back the film but its not as good as the original. It's thicker (so only 8 vs. 10 pics) has to be out of sunlight to develop, and takes way longer to develop, and film does not store well. I don't know how long the images will keep but time will tell. I still use my SX70 but I also have an Instax Wide. I mostly use the Instax but I hope Polaroid will get better and lower their cost.

Polaroids (600/SX70 vs Square) win in size, thickness, tangibility (see previous) true black and white, and has the one of the best camera's ever made. Instax is more consistent...I mean WAAAY more consistent pack to pack, batch to batch, and is cheaper. But even with my Frankenstax back for the RB67, the Monochrome Instax doesn't look right and can go green, the colors are a little to "FP100C" for me
When you get a good batch of Polaroid color or BW, it's really hard to beat. I just wish they would get better consistency and maybe go to a less contrasty negative.

Neither film is more superior than the other, I think it comes down to the hardware. The SX-70/680 will be the most optimal experience for Polaroid. Either the Lomograflok, Mint RF70, or a modded Polaroid 110, FP-1, or Konica instant press will be the best way to shoot instax.

The big thing about the Polaroid was that you didn't have to sent the film out to be developed. In that way it was "instant." So if you didn't get the shot the first time you had a change to get it again. The advent of digital cameras brought about it's downfall.

Just purchased a MINT slr680 from Canada for $315 cad! So cheap for what it is I hope it arrives in good shape and I don’t get a literal brick in the mail lol but it was worth the risk at that price I check every day and can’t wait to receive it lol says sept. 15th hoping that’s an over estimate 🤣 I have a spare sx-70 that I’m considering getting coated black then I would swap the slr680 into the metal shell and have a metal slr 680!!!! The iltimate instant camera imo! But I might instead wait for a broken sonar model to pop up so I can also retain my tripod mount hole

@@JustAnotherChris price, consistency, availability, colour reproduction is closer to what you see in viewfinder. Easier to handle for newbies.
For cameras, there’s lots of third party options for those who are more comfortable with manual control. Plus a fair range from Fujifilm themselves. Including hybrid options like the Evo.
If someone were looking to get into the hobby I’d steer them to instax/Fuji.
Allllll that said, I 100% get the appeal of Polaroid and want them to keep doing well and keep succeeding. We need both companies doing healthy business in the space. And I also agree that Polaroid film has a certain feeling/appeal that doesn’t show up “on paper.” I’d just caution folks to make sure they enjoy running Fuji instax (maybe a 200 or 300 or sq6) first.

Do they still promote their gimmicks to people to be creative such as adding additional accessories such as nd filters or frog tongue to shield or keep it warm or cool for different results? Its a waste of money. I suppose they still havent figure out how to put 8 exposure in a pack still to this day.
