The thing about the Rays is that you simply cannot judge their offseason like any other team. They always get knocked for "not adding any big name players" when the reality of the situation is that they almost *never* do that. Their monumental free agent signings of the last few years were Zack Efflin, Charlie Morton and Yoshitomo Tsutsugo. If you're wondering who any of these guys are, that's exactly the point. They develop young players who they aquire in draft or via trades. They typically capitalize on the first 1-4 years of a player's career, and go from there. For their standards, this was a B offseason. Would have been a B+ or A if they managed to sign another pitcher - then again, they did bring back Jake Odorizzi who could have success like he has in the past with them. But for the rest of the league who spend tens of millions and at times hundreds of millions of dollars each offseason, yeah, it's fair to say they had a C or C- offseason.

My issue with the Giants offseason is I don't think they acquired enough starting pitching. That could change if they go out and sign both Snell and Montgomery but until that happens it hasn't been enough IMO. The #2 starting pitcher is actually an injury prone reliever who only has 8 starts in his major league career. I'm not totally convinced he can convert back to a starter and stay healthy. Even if he can they will have to limit his innings. The #3, #4 & #5 starters are all rookies right now. To be successful in MLB you really need to have at least 8 proven starting pitchers because there are so many injuries at that position. Right now Webb is the only one I see. I would prefer to see the team stash guys like Harrison in Triple-A as depth for when an injury pops up. And if they really want to covert Hicks back to a starter go with a 6-man rotation and make him #6. Sign Snell, Montgomery, Clevinger and Lorenzen to round out the rotation with Webb and Hicks and let all the other guys be depth for the inevitable injuries. If they really only cared about winning they would pass on guys like Clevinger and Lorenzen and replace them with league minimum non-guaranteed contracts for Urias and Bauer. That would be a heck of a rotation. Urias, Bauer, Hicks, Montgomery, Snell and Webb while still having guys like Harrison stashed in the minors would probably give the Giants the best all around rotation in baseball. I can see why teams don't want the baggage that comes along with Urias and Bauer though. Still... Snell, Montgomery, Clevinger and Lorenzen are all still available and the Giants really need at least 2 of them IMO and probably all 4 if this rotation is going to contend. I also think Farhan overpaid for Lee. Lee was only projected to be worth around $50-60M. Farhan paid him $113M plus another $18+M posting fee on top of that. That means Farhan paid over $130M for a player who was projected to be worth way less than half that much money. At the same time Bellinger was projected to be worth over $200M. Bellinger ended up getting only $80M. Farhan literally spent over $50M more than what Bellinger cost just to get Lee and Lee has never faced pitching even close to the caliber of what he's going to have to face in MLB. Bellinger would have been the smarter move over Lee and he could've used that extra $50M (possibly over $100M if Bellinger opts out) he saved to allocate towards signing more starting pitching like Snell or Montgomery. I like the Soler pickup and Chapman will definitely be a defensive improvement over Davis. Those are the good moves. I don't like how the rotation is set up though and Farhan probably would have had more funds to address that issue if he didn't overpay so much for Lee. So I can't give the Giants an A personally. C at best unless they go out and sign one of Snell or Montgomery. That would move them up to a B in my eyes. They need to sign both to deserve an A though IMO. If they sign Snell, Montgomery, Clevinger and Lorenzen that would be an A+.

The White Sox also added Drew Thorpe in the Cease trade, and he has been looking very solid in spring training. Between him, and the much-improved defense (replacing Anderson with DeJong, Grandal with Maldonado, and assorted players at 2nd with Lopez) they should at least be a "C", I believe.

I wish I could push back on the Twins' grade, but their inability to sign not just a high-profile but even a mid-profile starter to replace Sonny Gray is the crowning anti-achievement of a weak offseason. Even with some decent signings to shore up defensive and bullpen depth, at the end of the day, Minnesota is a worse team than last year at a time when they should be pushing to capitalize on success, and it's a deserved D.

Excellent video, I know you made it before the Snell acquisition but I would move the Giants to an A grade now. Also think the Phillies should get a B as you failed to mention the Wheeler extension which is huge. Braves and Astros are a B- grade IMO as they needed to extend Fried and Bregman resp. but now risk losing them to FA at season’s end.

As a Red Sox fan, I would rate their free agents signings as a F. However, I do like their their trades as a A-. The Chris Sale for Vaughn Grissom should huge because second base+shortstop were a blackhole last year. They got ONeal+some promising pitching prospects for next too nothing. Overall I would say D. They were under ownership's orders to cut payroll because they are waiting for their promising prospects. Is this a long term situation or just a small restart? The Red Sox fans are extremely unhappy with their owner John Henry spending a fortune on PGA golf tournaments.

    Padres: D
They lost the best starting pitcher, relief pitcher and possibly hitter of 2023. And I don’t think they come close to replacing any of those 3 along with Wacha and Lugo
Plus they still got Bogaerts and Cronenworth on the roster
And don’t forget that AJ Preller kept his job. Then there’s the new CEO telling paying customers they should be thankful for what we have and to basically not demand any more.
Ls all around for the padres
