I really like Katharine, big fan, but Leona Lewis did this for the X-Factor, blows this performance out of the water. Hopefully she will make a comeback because her voice was a true gift. You should all check it out.

Growling can actually put a lot of stress on the vocal cords if done too often, while true vibrato is just the result of healthy cord closure (although some people unconsciously enhance their vibratos by wobbling the larynx or jaw, which is unnecessary and can also be unhealthy). Sorry for the long answer, but hopefully it helps! :P

My problem with Kat on these big songs was that when she started "belting" her voice would do this weird warbly thing. She had a great voice, just not a belter's voice.

Looks like Mr David Foster made a phone call. The public didn't agree with the judges either. We loved Katharine McPhee's changes, interpretation and changes as David had suggested. I bet Simon felt awful when he found out it was David Foster who changed up Whitney's song. Katharine was vindicated by the public as well. She's fantastic. I don't normally follow AGT week by week but I do watch later on RUclips. I love the talent & some of the Judges I really like David Foster & I was scanning through until I found him. He's got more talent than any Judge who's ever been on. He's absolutely amazing! I saw him ince in Housewives (with his x wife, who I liked). He was great & those women's irritates him just as they did me. I love them individually & as an extremely talented and gifted couple. I just am a big fan of them both. How gorgeous will their child be? Amazing I'm sure. Simon & Randy continue to rip the Katharine's arrangements throughout the next shows. They're David Foster's arrangements! Neither of these me have the talent David Foster has.
