I just test drove a 2010 Legacy 2.5i this morning, and it was the nicest car I have driven so far. Afterwards I went and drove a Ford Fusion..and I was bored as hell..no competition at all in terms of driving feel and performance. I plan on going back in about a month to get the Legacy. I think I have a new favorite car now.
I actually like this car, this is 2.5i premium legacy my first Subaru since 96 outback and a 2000 forester 5 speed, so i can only compare it to those. My pros: fuel efficient, styling. Cons: I know the cvt makes it fuel efficient but i feel like its not as peppy as my older subarus, also very roomy. Over all i love it and i would never go to a Camry, Accord or Altima.
Which is sad. Fortunetly bit;s of 4th gen Legacy survive in every other model made in 2010s. They based newer Imprezas, WRXs, Levorg and Forester on it still, to improve everything more, especially the impreza which was catastrophicly awful on the highway with the noise in 2001-2007 generation.
No, they don’t. Subaru head gaskets only really had big issues in the late 90s and early 2000s. They did have some small problems until the early 2010s in small select batches of gasket, but not nearly as common and considered a non-issue. However these Legacys still did have the potential for gasket issues if you opted for the 4-cyl, but again not enough of an issue to turn you away from buying one used since if it was a bad one it would’ve failed by now, so the only ones left are the good ones. The 3.6 is super solid and never had problems.
Subaru finally built a good looking car that has interior room and a quality interior. Much better looking than the previous generation. Built in the exact same plant where they build Toyota Camry's, I can see styling cues in the wheel arches. Excellent job Subaru. No wonder sales are up so much! The one auto manufacturer still increasing sales in a slow sales environment.
4th gen facelift is much better looking. 5th gen lost frameless windows and wagon version(Outback tookover as the wagon, but then handling is worse because of extra ground clearence) Interior is really ugly, quality and fit and finish worse. 4th generation of Legacy was the peak especially australian or european facelift wagons. Testiment to that every single other model was based on it: 2007+ and 2014+ Foresters, 2007-2011 impreza, 2012-2017 XV(Crosstrek)/Imprezas and 2014-2020 WRX(including Levorg which is a wagon version of WRX) are all derived from 4th generation Legacy. It was so because they wanted to improve handling, comfort and braking of all the models, especially interior noise levels in Impreza which were abysmal in 2001-2007 Impreza/WRX. Prefacelift might look a bit boring, but Legacy was excellent in everything else, and styling was massively improved in the facelift.
I wish they made a 2 door legacy gt sport coupe.i know Subaru has the brz? But the older legacy even the b4 were nice and had potential.i just don't see potential that much to the new body design and I'm tryin to be open minded about it.
@bonn212 Subara just like BMW obviously realized the sales numbers for both the wagon and the SI drive feature were significantly low in the US the previous years. It's not cost effective for any manufacturer to continue trying to offer anything in a location that very few buyers are interested in.
can someone tell me why 2010 legacy US model does not have2.5GT wagon A/T with Si system? and other country such as japan, Taiwan, China, UK and Australia they all have it.
While this generation looks great, it lost its sporty edge that 09 and before had. Also hate to see a real geared transmission go to a CVT. Love my 09 2.5 SE in obsidian black, with a black interior, cant wait to get it in snow or ice
I love The Legacy, they are so good looking, sound great, are about as safe as a car gets, cheap (only in price), are not common (YES!!!!) and are 20% owned by the best brand, Toyota. Subaru/Toyota RULES!!
@bonn212 poor sales, its more practical in smaller countries where most people have one car and have no room for SUVs. I believe wagons sale better in Japan than the sedans.
Yea, and you can't get the Legacy Wagon anymore... You have to get the Outback if you want teh wagon which IMHO looks even more hideous. Why Subaru thinks anybody need 8.7inches of ground clearance is beyond me.. The Outback from the mid 90's had plenty as it was.
I love how this guy sounds like it's still the 80's. And the music too--ahhhhhh!
My mom found a 2011 for 25k with 21miles on it! It's loaded! It's an amazing car yes!
I just baught a 2013 model. LOVE IT. I used to own a Accord and a Toyota, so that's saying something! Symetrical AWD baby!
And the Legacy isn't boring like a Camry or Accord! lol

I just personally think 05-08 looks more sportier te new design okay but I just wish they went back to more sportier look
I agree

These are very neat Japanese sedans now. Fuel economy hurts a little, the steering is a little vague but still it seems very nice. Good job, Subaru!
Definitely, got away from sleek and sporty and went to more of a family oriented car.

It's late Dec 2020 and I'm watching this review for the first time. Does Subaru's 2.5L flat-4 still have head gasket issues?
Yes

I like how it’s almost twice as fast as a brand new Subaru Legacy
this car looks awsome first legacy i would ever want
I liked the mid 2000 model look more.

Happy to hear Subarus are finally getting comfortable seats.
wow the host is a crispy golden brown now
This vid is from 2010 but looks like it's from 1990 lol
It's got headlights similar to the 2011 and up Hyundai Sonata and tail lights similar to the 2008-2012 Honda Accord.
The Legacy is nice. Awd is a must have in snowy or rural climes. Professional review. Everyday Driver should watch this to see how it's done.
104 through the 1/4, it pulls harder down the track than off the line.
I do wish Subaru still offered the Legacy wagon here in the US.
can someone tell me why 2010 legacy US model does not have2.5GT wagon A/T with Si system? and other country such as japan, Taiwan, China, UK and Australia they all have it.
I loved how the 2.5GT was 6Spd manual

the outback is this in wagon.
2010 GT is SWEET! Looks like a Lexus, big, practical AWD and FAST AS HELL! I grin behind the wheel constantly!
yeah probably but the g37 does come awd too. its the g37x
Nice looking car! There is probably a reason why this Subaru body style/model is selling really well. According to research on GOOGLE at sales stats.
@MrCrash2200 Yeah thats why i still have my 10 year old wagon. Still running strong too.
Turbo is at full boost higher in the RPMs : )
2010 doesn’t have cvt. It came with the leviorg
How can it be so fast? 104.1mph? beats pontiac G8GT, 335i and mustang GT.
Edmunds got 99.4mph only.
Agreed on the 0-60 and quarter mile. This car is a boring grocery getter with some SOTP feel.
FYI, '09 STI does quarter mile in low 13's.

Nice car, wish I had one with the top dog motor
believe or not, this family car's 104mph trap can run with a mustang 4.6.
@bonn212 poor sales, its more practical in smaller countries where most people have one car and have no room for SUVs. I believe wagons sale better in Japan than the sedans.

John Davis will never die lol.
@hokman1 Maybe its just me but the track looks like its a little bit downhill.
Nice car :)
wow wasnt expecting the qurarter mile speed to be so high. better than sti
How is that possible? My Sti stock is 13.6 in 1/4 mile @ 100mph with 300 hp and the legacy had 170hp and did 104 mph ...... I smell poop lol
Cool stuff this is the 260 hp version..
Thanks, I’ll be able to sleep at night now lol
im talking trap speeds. i think they trap at like 100
I love my 2010 lgt... and to the guy with the sti .. its 265hp 256lbs/ft. Torque. .. maybe get the poop out of your ears
I think the bumper and side-skirts are too low. Tires need more profile, and rims should be 16"
LOL - and I thought it was my video card again.
Headlights looks like it came off a Infiniti G
Don't like the new design the 05 gt limited looks way better
outback, impreza thats two already
i seen one of these on the streets. its huge. i would rather buy a g37 since it looks like one anyways
much bigger than the camry (im 6'4)
I dont like how these new ones look.
looks crap compared to the last version
I bet the announcer would want to say: "Hear is your host, Mr. Potato Head."
So ugly compared to previous gen...
