Backpacking Water Filtration System - Lifestraw Flex With Gravity Bag Water Filter - 1 Gal

- Video review of the Lifestraw Flex gravity filter. This water filtration system uses a gravity water filtration method and holds up to one gallon. This is excellent for backpacking, backcountry excursions, canoe trips and extended stays where packing or caching water would be difficult.

Thank you! Getting ready to spend a week teaching outskills to a Girl Scout day camp! I set up the system and couldn't get it to work! Your video helped me getting going! Can't wait to make them "drink dirt"!
The first time you will always remember because you're sure that it will tastes nasty but so shocked when it tastes amazing!!!!
This looks like a great water filter system! I like the look of the gravity water filter.
This is an excellent system. It really held up well for me on my last trip. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for posting this review. I am considering getting this one and wanted to check it out.
I really recommend it. It's been working out nicely.
Great system. Looks super handy and lightweight.
This was its first time out and it worked great.
hey nice video. The user manual says to put the syringe in the top cap for flushing though.
That's right. I remember now it was a back flush not a forward flush. I'm glad you reminded me! I've been doing it wrong 😩
@@LoneCrowAdventures Based on your name I can not help you hike solo. I have been thinking of starting hiking but I do not have anyone to go with. Are their many solo hikers?
@@jeremyrobbins9064 a lot of people hike solo. I used to do a lot more solo trips until I got married and now we are "two old crows" lol
Thanks for this video! I purchased a LifeStraw 1 liter bottle for a trip to Kenya and really like it. I realized I was going to need something to filter water for brushing teeth and guzzling in the heat. I bought this as a back up to be able to fill water bottles with, but it didn't seem to want to work. I've got it going right, I just need to be patient. There's nothing wrong with it. It's a dripped, not a gusher.
The syringe is used to back flush. There’s no point in forcing more contaminants through. The clean syringe goes in the clean side.
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome video!!!
Thanks for taking the time to check it out!!!
Wonderful thank you
You're welcome
I don't mean to be picky but you flushed the filter in the wrong direction.... you flush from the dirty end towards the clean end to remove build up.
Yeah. I actually realized that after the fact. Bummer.
I've owned this, the sawyer mini, the sawyer full size and the platypus. This has the best bag but overall the platypus is the best, it filters fastest and the double bag design allows you to just hang out and walk away
That is a very bnice feature to not have to babysit it.
Do you know if the sawyer mini is compatible with this bag? I got the sawyer mini (yet to try it though)
Great video
Thanks for taking the time to check it out!
6:00 is endearing.
Thanks!!!
Great video! Just a thought about the "hanging of the bag". It would seem to me that you could essentially squeeze the water through instead of hanging it. I do not own this one as I use a Sawyer squeeze with a 3L CNOC instead. Do the instructions say you could do this or do you think the hoses (judging from how easy they are to take apart) might not really let you do this? Also if you cant find a good hanging spot a little rope wrapped around a tree would be helpful for this.
The rope around the tree is a great idea..I haven't tried the squeeze method so I'm not sure if that would work or not. I'll try it next time out and let you know. I've always heard good things about the CNOC bag.
Just found your channel. I like it. The speed of the flex i dont like. Good review. Ill be doing the hydroblu versa flow review soon. Much faster
Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. This one wasn't too bad in terms of speed. I use it at camp when I'm setting up. I'd like to investigate the sawyer squeeze as well.
@@LoneCrowAdventures ive done a speed test using the mini micro and versa flow (on the channel) using a push method. First time really looking into gravity style stytems. Never tried the squeeze
@@titanpreparedness I'll have to check it out. I'm always game for trying new gear!
@Shawn Steinberger I thought so...she did it from the wrong side... other than that good video
Somehow I missed this video.... Looks like a good rig. Kinda awkward it doesn't have a clean bag or container though. Looks like it works fine.
Thanks for stopping back to check it out!
Weird, on its website this system is said to weight 6.9 oz not 13 oz .... Which is true?????
There were two sizes at the time this was filmed so mine may have been the larger capacity size.
Great video, thank you!! I just bought the lifestraw flex as my very first water filter and I think I'm doing something wrong as it does NOT work at all, neither water nor air comes through the filter : is there a piece I should remove (like a protective cap on the inside or something) ? Thank you so much to anyone who can help 🤠🤠
I'd try taking the filter caps off and running clean water through it to prime the filter. See if that works.
@@LoneCrowAdventures I had done that but not long enough I think because I tried again and it worked so YAY and thank you 😊😊
Can you filter wine out of it?
I'm sure there is a video of someone trying that on RUclips
@@LoneCrowAdventures thanks
It would be nice if this system came with a dirty water bag so you don’t have to use that jug. That looks like a pain.
You can use any container you want.
The gravity bag is the dirty water bag.
You also get the reusable silicon squeeze bag - bit like those flimsy Sawyer bags but with a wider neck to allow more water in and lasts a lot longer
Pretty sure you are cleaning it incorrectly. You flush clean water back through the clean end to force all the crap off of the dirty side. That's why it's called "back-flushing".
Thank you for pointing that out
