I love EXO's Monster so much - it's the song that got me into kpop

lay chanyeol sehun kai and d.o. (kyungsoo) were wearing hats for me it was easy to tell who is who but it might be because ive been a fan for so long
Thank you! That's what we decided after we finished recording and rewatched it. And yes, we really rely on our viewers to help us out when we're not familiar enough (yet!) to be able to readily identify the members of a group. We'll get there!! 🤗
Did you notice that the whole "Monster" choreography was designed to show the EXO members using their superpowers? Each move is meant to show them battling with the Red Force or X-EXO for control.
For example, D.O. has the power of super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography we see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him.
When we see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water.
Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography we see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them.
We see Kai slide backward and forward into the center of the group while waving his arms to represent him teleporting.
And when Chanyeol jumps over Lay, Sehun and Xiumin, this could be him using his phoenix fire wings to fly, and/or it could be showing him leaping over flames because he has the power to control fire.
Sehun's superpower is the ability to control wind, so the other members shuffle around him as he creates a windstorm. That's also why Chanyeol and Sehun rotate around each other during their rap break.
And at one point we see Baekhyun with his arms in the air when he is in the front of the group, which I think is him summoning the light and dark, etc.
Lay has the power of healing and Chen has the power of Thunder and Lightning, so I am sure their powers are also represented in the dance, however, I'm not sure the specific move.
And the part where they are all sitting on the ground with their one knee in the air as they rotate is supposed to represent a sundial -- EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun.

5:32 I think the backlighting in a dark room was a cool concept for this particular song, the shadows made it fit the theme of Monster so especially with half the members wearning caps to hide their face. Goes well with shadows don't have faces but still lurking in dark to get to you.

Kai said he likes to wear a hat during practices because it gives you more confidence, as it limits what you see and helps to focus on the moves.

it's funny since lay is less active with the group, kai is the one we look at first when he comes to dance but lay was The dancer of the group back then
