That was awesome. Very clear and concise. I especially appreciate you pointing out the console port on other devices. Thanks
It's great to get feedback. Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)
Thank you. I needed to know this for a job I've got booked in in a few days time.
thank you for your video sir. Iam learning ccna for 2 years in school but never seen how to connect the laptop to cisco device by console cable. so sad. ty again.
Norbert Fischer same case here.
we are three already, hahahah!
I laugh, but it's sad, indeed.
Here also ;)
@@carolinarendon2550 we became 5 now hahaha
Great demo! I was planning to record one by myself. But I shared it to my colleagues instead when I watched your video!
+Erich Chen that's great. Glad I could belp. That's why I make these videos - to give back.
2021 chiming in, thanks. Great video.
Thanks Network Advisor! As simple as it is, I didn't realize the RJ-45 was different, but I noticed the pin-out wiring was not the usual.
rj45 is rj45 dude
Thank you so much for the clear explanation! We were doing this in class and I didn't know what was going on because everything was too fast. We couldn't do much because we did not have administrative rights to get into the switch and we weren't allowed to download putty because of the admin rights there on the pc as well
Hi Mimi. This is a highschool class you are taking?
Thanks, straight and to the point +1
Well appreciated. Definitely helped. I plan on tackling the CCNA in a few months.
Exactly what I wanted to know.
Very Good video. Congratulations!
Great video. Love the shed :D
Your videos are the best I have seen. Thank you
wow Joe, glad you think so - I'm flattered! I try to just explain things in the simplest and most direct way. I know my video production could be better. Thanks for your kind words! :)
Now they have RJ-45 to USB console cable....so no adapter cable needed.
does it work ? because he seems to imply that it must be "rj45 to serial female" connected to "usb to serial male" to work properly !
Thanks for the video!
Excellent video..simple to the point
Thanks Orlando. Simple n short is my goal. 😀
awesome Advisor keep it up 😍
It is great series of vedios it is amazing chaneel
Thank you 😊
Thank you!
Valuable video to human life
WOW, didn't realize I was having that much of an impact, but that's great to hear! :-)
Thank you so much for these vedios🔥🔥♥️
Appreciate the gratitude and feedback! 😊
nice work
Thx for the break down, great video.
you're welcome Carlos. I may make more Cisco videos in the future. Thanks for the feedback. :)
Thank you very much!
Thank you Sir
thank u so so so much for this video
Glad I could offer you some value. And, thanks for the feedback! :-)
What do you do if the 9-pin serial port is located on the switch/network device?
You use a female to female 9 pin serial cable instead of the cisco cable.
use a serial to usb converter
Maybe things have changed over the years but a female rj45 to usb adapter that connects to the female console port via male ethernet cable is the answer today
best videographer ever
+El kamily Younes well, I will accept the compliment. Thanks for watching. :-)
Thank you sir!
was so helpful thnx alot !
Thanks, it helped a lot!
Nice video man, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the feedback, Thomas! 😄
hello, i supply cisco and huawei, if you have requirement, you can add my skype: xiongjiuqi97@outlook.com
Thanks!
What driver should I download for the RJ45 to usb and how do know what port I should putty into?
my question exactly . Would it be cisco that made the drivers ? kind of odd he didn't address that
Merci beaucoup
Thanks for sharing men :) Good job
Big help thank you so much?
hi Carolina. Thanks for watching. Glad you found it helpful. :)
I can go in the console of a cisco router with my usb to cisco cable on my ComPort6, but it's not working for a cisco switch. it says file not found, or file cannot be opened or something along those lines. I'm using SecureCRT.
hi Luis. I've not had much luck with those USB-style console connectors. Sorry, I can't offer much help there.
I have a Cisco SF200-24P and it dose not have a Console port. Can I just connect it to any of these 24 ports?
does it have a serial port
When I hit enter iam not getting prompt . It's just blank . Any suggestions
Mr. Singh. It may be that the Com port (COM1, COM2, COM3....) is not set correctly. Or, the baud rate is not agreeing with the equipment. If you are on a Windows machine, try going into the Device manager. Find the spot in the USB devices where you can see the USB/Serial adapter. Try experimenting with different com ports there.
Do the routers (I just got an 1841) normally come with ram when bought used?
how would they work without ram
Your light bill has to be in the clouds man
Ahahaha…it’s higher than I would like . 😄
Interesting CompTIA teaches the connector as simply RJ-45
What speed did yu set on PuTTy?
9600
so we cant use a cable that both ends are RJ45?
Correct. To access the Cisco console port, the part that connects to the PC has to be serial (or USB). 😊
Can I use RJ-45 > USB instead of using adapter?
+Danial khan I have not seen such a thing that will work. Newer Cisco equipment now comes with a console port that is a USB mini connection but, I don't think that's what you're asking here. Thanks for the question. I am sure others were thinking that too.
I actually just found this today and am getting it sent over. It has a LOT of reviews and everyone says that it works as intended. Still need Drivers for it to work though. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KMRVGFO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
yes sir a new router has both ports RJ45 and a USB ,, now ball is in our court which ports we want to use .. but we need a specific software to work on USB ports ,, anyway ur video was helpful
hello, i supply cisco and huawei, if you have requirement, you can add my skype: xiongjiuqi97@outlook.com
thanks alot
happy to help Abram. I'm make another Cisco video about connecting across the network very soon.
can I use the laptops HDMI port? or RJ45 port?
I don’t known of anyway you could use the HDMI port. You might be able to use the Network port if the router has an IP address already setup on the mgmt VLan (Vlan1). But the network port wont connect to the console
Port as demonstrated in this video
What exactly is a console port and why do you need to use a serial to ethernet cable and not just a plain old ethernet cable?
with a lot of intelligent network equipment (as opposed to dumb switches), you often times need to configure the setup before the Ethernet ports will work. So, the serial console connections are kind of an industry standard for most networking gear. This allows you to access the configuration even if all the programming is gone (or broken).
Console port is use to initially setting up the switch. After assigning IP address to the switch, you can later manage it without console port/cable.
@@NetworkAdvisor now THAT is weird information
I don't have console cable switch is of series catalyst 2950 want to login in switch how to do
If no console cable, the only other way to reach a management command line would be to telnet to the Management IP address if the switch.
@@NetworkAdvisor but sir I don't know ip adress of switch and also I don't have reset button what to do and to connect with ip adress strait cable from Port 1 to laptop etherenet port can we telnet catalyst 2950 switch
@@sufiyanshaikh7550 did you try asking cisco ?
You can get USB to RJ45 cables
oh that's cool
Is the rate always 115200
Hi,I do not see any com ports on my windows 10 machine. What am I doing wrong ?
in Windows device manager, you select the device connected, if usb then check under USBs. In this case the usb to serial port will be under ports (COM & LPT).
For windows 10 you will need to install prolific drivers for the usb to DB9 connector to work.
@@jonathanwilkins7104 Install drivers from where ?
My Cisco switch has a male serial port on the back for the console.
Wow. Is it old? What model?
@@NetworkAdvisor no...I have about 6 Cistcos from 2013-2018 and all of them have the serial port on the back. One is a SG300-52P another is the SF300-24P
Ohhhh ok. I guess I hadn’t worked on that project line. Good to know then. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Some ATC over there!
oh Yeah. Thanks for watching! :-)
+Network Advisor 👍👍👍👍💪
you can buy a usb 2 serial port that does not need drivers.
I think a Driver is always going to be required. But, if you're lucky Windows may already be familiar with the device and have the driver already.
@@NetworkAdvisor where would you get the required drivers
What about window 10 or 11
Putty.exe
Grt
good
+sokkhet seng thank you. Happy to do it. :-)
The issue is finding the USB driver software. This was no help
i found that used to be an issue back in the window 2k and xp days. but ever since win7, they seem to auto-load the drivers with out much issue. good luck with your endeavor.
thanks!
Great Robert. Glad I could help.
