Honest Review: MightyKool K2

  • This is probably more than you ever wanted to know about the MightyKool K2. A couple of things that didn't get mentioned is the max measured current draw was 1.68 amps. On medium it is about 1.4 amps and low about 1 amp. So it can run a long long time on a battery bank or solar. Also worth mentioning is the more water you add to the unit the less it performs. The reason is more of the cooling pad becomes submerged. You get the best performance at 1/4 full or less.

    For far less than the cost of a Mightykool, you can get a Hessaire MC18 cooler that will do much better. It's been 98 degrees in Quartzsite. The Hesssaire keeps My RV with no shade around 80 degrees.

    Excellent review, thank you for the time. I am looking for something to help me sleep in a van with high humidity over 40% at lets say 85F. I suspect that won’t work. So the search continues. You rock sir!

    I am guessing that the person who suggested you review this product can't stand constructive criticism? How sad is that? But you know as long as you are giving your honest review, and your honest opinion, then...... people will continue to respect YOU and the others will fall by the wayside. Good video!!! Honesty is the best policy. IMHO

    My mom taught me to get my clothes wet when I didn't have air conditioning, or when power went out for days, that saved my life. Also use the same concept to keep my insulin pen cool when out and about in the summer. There are cooling jackets for pets, that work the same way with out getting everything wet that they lay on. I just don't think a cat would be very receptive to it though and could wiggle out. Still searching for a solution... maybe a cooling mat along with a fan might work.

    It's always 78% humidity on east coast when it's HOT like that. It's a shame it wouldnt work that good here because I love this idea

    Using a spray bottle with the propeller blade that is sold for personal cooling is a better bet and will probably be more effective at a small fraction of the cost.

    👍Your Feb 7, 2017 video about a "YT complaint" brought me here. Trying to understand what that guy at MightyKool's problem / complaint is...🤔
    I see nothing wrong with your review or this video. I had no idea such a thing existed so I did learn something new today. 😃
    I read his (MightyKool 1) comment below (awful nice of you to leave LOL) - I think it's "his baby" so he can't handle any comments that aren't "glowing" in his opinion. It's like any parent...don't say their kid is bad or ugly LOL 🤣

    In case anyone is thinking about this product... Do not expect customer service to help you out if you have trouble. They shipped me a unit with a damaged fan. When I asked for information about the unit the responses from them ranged from "...I guess my time is worth nothing" to "Do you think I'm stupid." The unit might be OK to use, but the people who run this shit-show are terrible.

    16% Humidity and that LOW, (29) Dew Point? Yay for Arizona.. It is beyond me why everybody retires in Florida. For full disclosure, I have to admit it get's pretty humid + hot during the Monsoon season.

  • @aday1637
    @aday1637 7 лет назад +1

    Using this device inside an air conditioned house or space will add load to the air conditioner, as the extra humidity it creates must be removed as part of the workings of a regular compressor driven air conditioner. That said, if you have a room that is warmer than another, you would be better off 'balancing' the system so that room gets cooler (adjust the outlets or volume dampers in the duct work). This is a very primitive device and the design was first used before compressor driven a/c was available and only used in very low humidity locale.

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  7 лет назад

      This device inside doesn't add enough humidity to make any difference. It doesn't evaporate enough water fast enough. Therefore it is an effective spot cooler inside with AC on. That is it's one shining point I found while testing it. It never even moved my humidity meter after hours of running. It evaporates less than a gallon of water in like 8-10 hours in my testing.

    • @aday1637
      @aday1637 7 лет назад

      Or no gallons per hour if you live along the coast...

    At 104 in the shade in the open that box isnt going to be able to do much except send a cooler breeze towards you. I am surprised if given some time why it wouldnt work in an enclosed insulated space like a van.....nm 18:00 you said it would likely work

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  6 лет назад +1

      I have had much more time and experience now with personal coolers. I can tell you for sure that these devices will not in any way cool an area no matter the size. They can only offer a cooler breeze directly on your person in very close proximity at anything over 90 degrees. For me I find it very useful in my van. That is where I use mine most. However I consider my limit to be at 95 to be at the outer edge of comfort. I can stand it at 100 but its not fun for sure. If you are realistic in expectations they can be useful but they in no way, no matter what anyone tells you move enough air volume to cool any space to any significant degree. Now as a spot cooler in an already cooled space such as in a room that doesn't get as cool as other rooms, that is where these things are at their best. They do not add enough humidity to be of any concern in most cases. They can take a room from say 80 degrees where it is uncomfortable and make you really comfortable when blowing directly on you.

    • @nycLPplayer
      @nycLPplayer 6 лет назад

      That is really helpful. So on a hot summer day in the mid 90s with some humidity in the north east how much of a drop could one hope for (estimate) in a moving van. I am planning on getting a 60s Dodge a100/a108 but may not have time to install a full custom system before needing to use it for a trip.

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  6 лет назад

      It would provide 0 drop. None at all. They do not cool an area in any way. They cool a person in very close direct proximity.

      It is a bit over priced for sure. Especially when you get it and find out it has what looks super close to a humidifier pad in it as the magic sauce. Can you imagine paying that for 2 fans and a humidifier pad? I felt a little jilted.

    • @LovingAtlanta
      @LovingAtlanta 7 лет назад +1

      + NewZona Rides 2 - I totally agree with you. I'm sorry he's harassing you.
      🤔 "2 fans & a humidifier pad"....when you say it like that...it really sucks even more! I think you should put a sticker or note on it that says "$300 for 2 fans & a humidifier pad". Better yet, that should be the title of the video. 😂 You did nothing wrong sir. Anyone watching your video will understand that this is your honest review opinion. I appreciate people like you who take their precious time to even do these videos and post content. 🤗💞🤗

    You can buy the media for this that is also used as media for some humidifiers. Not sure the savings but there are other sources. Aprilaire is one brand that comes to mind. There are others. I have installed many thousands of hvac systems including humidifiers over 40 years. You could improvise if you own this. But I'd still not recommend it.

    Ebay is not a restaurant. You don't pay for shipping when you eat in a restaurant. And yes you can set return policy on ebay. Wasn't always that way but is now. In order to get a full refund you must still state that the reason for the return is that the product is defective. If you buy and it works you CAN be challenged by the seller in the dispute process.

    • @boomer1954ful

      Ebay has turned into a rip-off, for both the sellers but especially the buyers. A LOT of foreign sellers use Ebay to rip off N.American buyers. Buyer Beware. Re-stocking fees? Pppffffffft.

    Swamp coolers work excellent in arid climates...but run that here in Maryland and you will fill your space with mold and mildew in a big hurry...even a likely fungal infection from the added humidity!!

      I actually built one for our bow rider boat using an ice chest, heater core from a Camaro, 350 cfm bilge pump, a 12v Endless Breeze fan and a toggle switch to turn bilge pump on/off for fan use only. The heater core & fan sat on top of the cooler that contained 3 ea. 1 gal. gator-aid bottles of frozen water with 2" water in the bottom for the bilge pump to circulate cold water thru the heater core via plastic tubing and by george it worked. The cock pit slant cover, privacy curtains and bow cover on our boat helped contain the cool air and the ice lasted several hours during the heat of the day/night down here in MS where it is really humid. When the bottles thawed we used ice/water and the low amp pull of pump & fan allowed a couple of days running out of the spare designated group 27 marine battery before recharging with the Mercruiser engine. It made my wife happy during our fishing/camping trips sleeping in the boat with no ill side effects/mold or mildew. We sold the boat after 19 years of use and am looking at using it on my Cub lawn tractor with it's homemade fabricated thin wall sqr. steel tubing frame with osb wood canopy - lol. Just a friendly response.

    I'm in the process of watching your video while shopping for something, ANYTHING that will cool off the temp on my shaded porch for my dogs while I'm away at work. I have a ceiling fan and a box fan and all they do is move hot air. No cooling at all. I live in Central Texas where it's in the upper 90s/lower 100s most of the summer. We also have high humidity most of the time. Any suggestions?

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  7 лет назад

      I shop cooler would work to keep your dogs cooler. However the higher the humidity the less effective it will be. I have the one made by Honeywell and I can recommend it. It is a very good unit.

    Mighty Kool make an evaporator unit now that you hook a 4" tube up to the back of the unit, and connect the tube to a window so that you use fresh dry air, rather than using the moist air.

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  3 года назад

      I just don't think this device moves enough air to worry about it. In order for this device to raise the humidity enough for that to be necessary it would have to evaporate a quantity of water to raise the humidity. It doesn't use that much water over the coarse of time so I would question the added benefit of going through the trouble of hooking up hoses to run outside. This device is a close proximity personal cooler. Better than just a fan in most cases.
