The band had to get permission from Michael Jackson to cover this song. Michael was a bit unsure at the time but then heard AAF's version and he loved it so he gave his OK. The whole video pays homage to Michael and many of his videos. It's one of the best covers ever in my opinion.
Yep. I was going to say that when Michael heard it he was 👍 go for it. And I love homages throughout the entire song.
Jackson asked for one change, he wanted the dancing kid to not be wearing a mask. So they brought the kid back and reshot his scenes without the mask, then when MJ saw it, he changed his mind again and decided he liked the masked version better.
it was really good, but the best covers in history, are Hurt by Johnny Cash and The Sound of Silence by Disturbed.
@@adamskeans2515 I disagree with the disturbed cover. It's not bad, I just don't like it. It's too slow. I loved how the original slowly got faster.
Anyway, that's my opinion. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I disagree.
@@specialsause949 I think theirs works in a similar way where David's voice gets more raw and intense as the song progresses. But I can definitely see preferring the original on any of these tracks.
Probably one of the best covers of all time
Never forget watching Attack of the Clones in the theater and my sister singing this in my ear "Ani are you ok, ok Ani"
That's effing hilarious 😂. You're sister sounds like a riot.
This was actually the first version of the song I had heard when I was really young. Both are incredible.
They killed it! Great cover and tribute at the same time 👌🏾
Haha. So they were my favorite band in high school. One show I went to I got to meet them, and ended up becoming friends with Mike (drummer). 25 years later, he’s still one of my besties. Even visited me when I moved to London. And took care of my momma when she had a birthday alone in Seattle, cause I was over seas. To see them on one of my favorite reaction channels… amazing.
Lots of references to MJ here: the kid’s dance moves, true lean, the lit up squares, the smoke from the vents, the yell and crotch grab, the forward lean etc. as a kid I actually heard this version before the original 😂
It's a brilliant rendition.
It's a rock version and I love rock.
RIP MJ. regardless of how you feel about him he's still a legend.
This is one of my favorite covers tbh. It hits just right every time.
The chorus of this song was inspired by the CPR training dummy called Resusci Anne. Back in the 70s they would train people working on the dummy to say "Annie are you OK?" but they later changed it to just "Are you OK?". Michael Jackson had taken a CPR class while working on his album. The original song is also the first time people saw the Michael Jackson lean.
Allen Ant Farm, a one-of-a-kind late’90s/early 2000s ska-punk band that captured the sound of the era so well
It was a great rendition of the song. I wonder if it has that many likes and views because of their version or because of all the MJ references to other videos they have added to this? They had the glitter hand = the single glove he wore, the lighted sidewalk and the chopped screen from the Billy Jean video, the chimp = MJ's pet Bubbles (who is/was (may have passed by now) in a primate facility in Florida and honestly when I saw him he looked very depressed - don't get a primate for a pet, people!!), the steam blowing up from the ground from The Way You Make Me Feel video... and probably others that I missed because there were so many. That overall homage might be part of the reason for so many views and thumbs up, because the version is cool, but lots of bands do covers like this, as a harder version of the original or just a completely different tempo from the original.
I'm so old I saw them on the Warped Tour that year.
My recommendation is Gunman by Orden Ogan. They're a German band, but the song is about an undead gunslinger in the old west. They shot the video in Arizona, and it's amazing.
This us a wonderful cover and Michael knew that the group paid subtle homage when filming this video.
If you're familiar with George Michaels "Faith" then check out the version by Limp Bizkit. Not as great as this particular cover but still good
I love watching your reactions, but the music reactions are my favorite 😁. A song that always gets me pumped is "Feel Invincible" by Skillet.
Or 'Feel Like a Monster'
Everything Skillet does is awesome.
Smooth Criminal was covered by a group from Croatia , 2 Cellos , but there’s no singing , just raging Cellos - they do Justice to the song around the world !!
One of my fave covers of all time, up there with Hendrix doing All Along the Watchtower and Foo Fighters version of Baker Street.
One of my favorite songs of theirs is called Wish
Fun fact, that's Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers towards the end with the mohawk and the "Thriller" eyes.
Top 5 covers of ALL TIME in my book.
This is the best tribute to the legendary king of pop MJ ever
They’re from Riverside, CA. The video had a a So Cal vibe.
Many viewers are to young to remember this, but there were short films (Later shown on TV) called "Our Gang" AKA "The Little Rascals". They were made back in the 1930's. One of the main characters was a boy named "Alfalfa" played by a young actor named Carl Switzer. Anyway the lead singer looks just like "Alfalfa" I'm pretty sure he was going for that look. Goggle a picture of "Alfalfa" from the original "Our Gang" films and you will see what I mean.
--Kabir, have you seen Muse's cover of Prince's "Sign O' Times"? There's a live performance they did for the BBC that's a really good listen.
Funny, i never actually saw the video until now. I remember putting this on my CD burn list i gave to a guy in junior high and listening to it on my discman. Lol
AAF played Mardi Gras Galveston when this was released. My best friends dad was in charge of entertainment for it and we got to meet the band. The were really cool and we bummed Amstel Lights off them all night. They opened for Puddle of Mudd that night. Almost like an age ago.
Listen, I am a huge Michael Jackson fan but I’m also a huge rock and heavy metal fan and this song is a beautiful blend of the two
Love this one, nice one KC...😁👍👍
You were just a boy when this came out. Occasionally this is played on Jack FM, I turn it up when I’m in the car. There’s so many of these older songs that are just forgotten and they make you say man I forgot about this song. If they had a streaming station of top 20 or 40 over the past 50-60 years. There are so many that were really good that only and their fans really remember until you hear them again
Yeah, at this time a lot of covers where charted ... don't miss out "Billy Jean" by "The Bates" :-)
Before I even watched this video, I was like, "no way, no way anyone could outdo Michael Jackson's original version". But after listening to it? Damn son, if that ain't pretty darn good! That looked like Flea, from Red Hot Chili Peppers at the very end. 😄👍
There was plenty of homage towards Michael Jackson in this one, as well. Well done AAF! Thanks for sharing...
Kabir is more American than most. If you ever move here you will more friends than most.
Thanks for the kind words brother! 🍻
Love these guys version of Michael's song.
Number one on my driving playlist!
Okay, this reaction is adorable.. it's always a good time seeing someone enjoy good music and just jam ^_^
Love it when you react music! Thanks Kabir! ❤️
I miss MJ! He was awesome!
Another good cover to check out is Dynamite Hack covering Boys-n-the-Hood by Easy E.
2:40 my first/favorite girlfriend had one of those hand chairs. i'm constantly looking for a barely used/like-new one online, 20 years later.
Kabir Check Out a Rock Band From Mexico called The Warning they are 3 Sisters they are the Future of Hard Rock check out a song called "Evolve"
I was in junior high school when this came out. 🤣🤣🤣
The other wonderful MJ cover is Chris Cornell's Billie Jean.
Such a beautiful awesome tribute. And the video is awesome too.
The greatest thing to ever come out of Moreno Valley, California.
JEFF was HERE
The kid in the beginning was ahead of the times with the mask.
Hi guys!!!
THIS is how you do a cover.
I always lose count , there are at least 50 MJ or MJ video references in this video. The Lean, werewolf in bikini, all the way to the end with the thriller eyes at the end....brillant vid!
Their “Movies” is good
For some reason, i regard this video as the most California thing, ever.
Should react to “Pinch Me” by Barenaked Ladies!
Try a band called Alien Sex Fiend, Song called Trip To The Moon. Very lovely.
Fun song.
DISTURBED "SOUND OF SILENCE" has almost 1,000,000,000 views
At least 15 references to Michael Jackson can you name them?
I can, I don’t think he caught most of them.
This came out in like 04 or so. I thought it was a cool cover.
2001. I only remember because I was pregnant when it came out and listened to it a bunch all summer. One of the songs my kiddo loved to jam out to in-utero LOL. (it's still a banger)
@TheMourningStar * good memory better than mine, lol. I had a basic range, but that was it. Thanks for helping.
Have to do Hardy “radio song”
The ultimate Michael Jackson tribute video.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

There’s also an acoustic version of It Was a Good Day and a Ska version of Gin and Juice. I forgot the artists.
React to new Linkin Park - Lost
There’s a generation of us that prefer this version over Michael Jackson’s original
