  • 'Wha Wadna Fecht for Cherlie', is a Scottish Jacobite song about the 1745 jacobite rising. The words to song's first documentation is not until 80 years later in 'Jacobite Relics of Scotland' by James Hogg in the early 1820s, the lyrics origin is unknown, the melody comes from an older song.
The 1745 Jacobite Rising, also known as the '45, was a rebellion led by Charles Stuart 'Bonnie Prince Charlie'. It aimed to restore the exiled Stuart monarchy to the British throne. The Jacobites won victories early, like in Prestonpans. After the utter defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 they were scattered. The aftermath saw the end of the risings and significant changes in the Scottish lands.

It's just the opening few notes, many tunes are like this in folk music and bagpipe music. "Hark, when-the" and "Wha wadna" are both expressed the same musically. A-tourluath-A-doubling on C

They’re all from 1948’s Bonnie Prince Charlie, I watched the film and saw some great clips, that’s why I have like 7 Jacobite songs in succession. I watched it here: archive.org/details/BonniePrinceCharlie1948

@@richardcleveland8549 Francis II’s claim goes back to Charles I. Charles III’s only goes back to James I. Were it not for an unlawful act of parliament depriving over thirty people of thirty places in the line of succession, Francis II would reign. I have nothing against Charles III, but I can hope for nothing less than the success of the Jacobite cause. I would prefer the conversion of the current house and then a marriage that would render the practical side of the question null and void; however, the true law is clear our King is o’er the waters.

@@warrenlehmkuhleii8472 Good luck with that. The chances of replacing Charles III with a king from over the water are somewhere between zero and none. This romantic nonsense about the Stuarts is just that: Nonsense. James II lost the throne deservedly because he was a bad king, Scottish opinion to the contrary notwithstanding. I cannot conceive of the GBP accepting some minor European semi-royal, himself phantom claimant to a long-abolished throne, as its king. Arrant rubbish. You might as well wish for a descendant of Harold Godwinson to be called to the throne; after all, Harold had four sons by his first wife and one by his second . . . SURELY, if you believe hard enough, a descendant might be found. Consider another hobby . . . quoting Tom Lehrer, "Some people have a hobby, like tennis or philately; I have a hobby, re-reading 'Lady Chatterly'!"
