    TIP! You can cut tires like hot butter with a Sawzall. Just take an old blade and grind all the teeth off and grind it into a knife edge. It will cut rubber like you won't believe.

      Go to any large truck stop and look for rolls of rubber rope and adjustable hooks. Rope can be easily sourced in 3/8" or 1/2" and comes on 200' rolls (or by the foot)

    • @MrTackleberry79
      @MrTackleberry79 5 лет назад +3

      www.uscargocontrol.com/Rubber-Rope-Solid-Core-3-8-x-150
      3/8" solid core rubber tarp rope. 150 ft long. And 100 adjustable hooks. What we do is string the rope through the D-rings on the tarp and pull down to secure to the deck or rails while rolling up excess tarp underneath.
      The rope isn't terribly expensive and saves you some headache in cutting the tires apart/making hooks.

      @@sixtyfiveford I use to buy them from a custom tarp/net maker for covering trucks. They were about $100 buck a box of 50 and would last about a year depending where they were made. The good ones had instructions on the side and gave you the length and the stretch length so you wouldn't abuse them or over stretch them . You would loose them depending where you parked. They would steal them. I would keep them strapped on the truck fender for easy to grab use.

    Great video and ideas Moe, thank you!
    Use some silicone spray lube when cutting tires or other rubber, you will be amazed at how much easier the silicone makes it cut.
    I use old worn sawzall metal cutting blades to cut tires myself. I just sharpen them on both sides like you would a knife to where there is no "set" left in the blades, but you still have the teeth. A bit of spray silicone on the blade and it makes cutting tires a lot faster and easier.
    P.S. Thanks for putting your dog in the videos, I look forward to seeing her do tricks and playing in the yard.

    • @TrojanHorse1959

      With the silicone to lubricate the blade and rubber, it sure makes it cut a lot easier. I'm definitely going to make some of those auto tire bungee cords. I'm sick of those wimpy little round colored ones for sure and I appreciate you sharing this idea.
      Ginger is very smart and a real sweetheart. I really like dogs like her, I've found them to be smarter than almost any other breed I've owned. I have a female pit bull I got for Christmas a couple of years ago now. She's a good dog and doesn't have a mean bone in her body (because I raised her properly), but she's just not as smart as the Red and Blue Heelers I've had.

    The tread carcass can be used as bumpers on a loading dock by mounting them onto concrete with the use of concrete anchors and bolts!

    Good to see the puppers again. Your dog looks like a lot of fun. As for the left over tread you could cut out pieces to make flip flops that would never wear out.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  5 лет назад

      Super flip flops. I've seen some 3rd world country videos of this and may have to give it a try.

      @@sixtyfiveford You could even try using thinner strips of sidewalls as the straps. Just be sure to scrub it all down because I bet otherwise it will be dirty as heck.

    I know a missionary that served in Bolivia for several years that would use inner tubes to make his bungee cords. He said they they worked better than the store bought ones in the states

    Several years ago I was working in remote Honduras. And needed a pull cable to get out of a muddy hole. Out cable and chains has been stolen. But the town had a huge pile of old tires. We cut them like you did the did a 3 braids weave. We pulled large loaded bob trucks out by doubling them.up A single 3 strip braid pulled cars and pickups out ez. I’m wondering if you started a bit into the tread if the hole would be stronger ? Excellent idea for trap straps. Like the adjustable hook.

    Bicycle shops give away old bicycle tubes by the arm full and they are VERY stretchy rubber. I have used them cut into strips on some other tool making projects.

    The tread of the tire, you rolled up, could be cut into pieces, and would make great roof shingles for like a dog house or something!! Probably lots of other uses somewhere!!! Nice job!!

    Old inner tube, if you can find any ,work very good as well. Cut with heavy scissors or shears.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  5 лет назад +1

      I've used inner-tubes but they seam to rot/crack in a few months if left outdoors. I don't think they treat them with any UV inhibitors.

    The original Bungees are excellent for a limited number of applications. Unfortunately, I don`t think they are around anymore. I still have a handful of the originals and I use them as tensioning straps on my snow chains on the Cub Cadet tractor to plow my driveway. You have given me an idea or two though with this video. Thanks
