At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors. “One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.” Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator. He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years. “Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.” Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry. Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.
Martin, you are the wisest man. This lesson should truly be required, by law, to be seen, absorbed, and implemented, by every young person as soon as they are 18 years old. At least. But ideally, then again, before they join into any endeavor involving another living soul. marriage, child birth, getting a pet, job, buying a car, everything. I have no intention of becoming a falconer. I just find immense value in all of your videos. I can’t think of an instance where, what you’ve said here, isn’t fundamentally important and necessary. Thank you for your efforts, patience, intelligence, and wisdom.
I'm gonna make an analogy. My Moma raised me that if I wasn't learning - the teacher isn't teaching. Completely understand your point. You are an amazing man. The world is a much better place because you're in it. Thank you for who you are and for sharing your life, wisdom & experience. Sending love from Texas.
I absolutely love these falconry videos. Though I am interested in it and love raptors, I do not have the lifestyle required to give these birds what they require. These videos fill that void for me, plus the lessons here are applicable to many other aspects of our lives. Thank you as always, Martin. Your wisdom and knowledge is a gift. 💖
When you spoke about Susan, it is clear she is above all others. Up until now I have appreciated your knowledge about Falconry, but your knowledge reaches far beyond that. Thank you again, Martin.
Thank you so much for your dedication to these magnificent beautiful creatures … your an Angel I send you sunshine and rainbows from Sunny Florida 🌞🌞God Bless You for your work in nature 🦅🦅🦅
Martin this was a beautiful video. Thank you. I enjoy all your videos but this was special one just like the releases are special. You've given us the privilege of allowing us a view into your life and your stewardship of these amazing creatures. I can really tell you love all the animals under your stewardship and I so appreciate that and I know the other viewers do too. Thank you.
Well, that's just love, Martin, it's not so complicated. The critters are blessed by your love. There is not one doubt in my mind that your children and their children will make the world a better place, and boy could we use them about now!
As I typed this I saw an eagle sitting on a branch about 20 yards in front of me. It had a white head and some white tail feathers underneath black tail feathers. Not sure what that means year wise - will have to rewatch your eagle videos. I never saw a bald eagle until we moved here about 5 years ago. There is a population in the area. My honey took the dog out and the bird just turned around to face the commotion. A hawk would have long flew away. The eagle remained a couple of minutes watching the activity and then took flight. The tree branch swayed under the weight of it’s liftoff. What a magnificent bird. I always think of you guys now when I see a big bird and esp when I see an eagle❤️❤️❤️
I was sorry to hear you say this series is ending - I loved it! But I am looking forward to the next series about equipment as well. I'm following from Germany and my husband and I (both new falconers) are picking up our Harris Hawk in August. I love to hear you talk about your passion for this life dedication.
I dont think that alot of people we I'll get it ! A very few will be willing to try to dedicate them selves to this art . It can take years to learn the Bird you have chosen and vice versa . Listen well to these words they are so important . These BIRDS are so time consuming to your life be ready to try to understand. I love this . Listen well friends so very few will get there !!!!
I live with 3 rescued Amazon parrots. I found them at a pet shop that takes birds that people do not want any longer. They see a pretty green bird that says a couple words and they want one. But they have no clue that their bird is a lifelong commitment. They bond with their person and we become part of their flock. When they regurgitate their meal on you then your bonded for life. Anyway.... If you get any bird it is a very long time that you will be caring for them. We don't own them. We live with them. But it's a joy and privilege to be in their life
I’m in Ohio. I have wanted to be a falconer forever. I just started looking into the steps involved. I have to take the exam then find a sponsor. Hope I can find one easy enough
