  • NSAIDs (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Celecoxib, Diclofenac)
All of us have taken at least one kind of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). We take them when we experience pain, inflammation, or fever. However, the action of these drugs are more widespread and, even though they are safe within their therapeutic range, their side effects should be noted!
The most common side-effects from NSAIDs include:
    - Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
    - Platelet (clotting) dysfunction
    - Renal injury
    - Hepatotoxicity
Let's take a look at how these drugs work and how these side effects occur!

So for a person with low platelets (75), what would an NSAID do to them? Does it lower platelets and cause bleeding in general? Would it cause passing blood in stool?

  • @laurencejones8977

Ibuprofen and Naproxen Sodium can cause a bleeding stomach ulcer. A bleeding stomach ulcer can become a perforated ulcer, which you can die from. I know this for a fact, from personal experience. In 1985, I had a perforated stomach ulcer that required emergency surgery to repair. A couple of weeks later I developed an abscess of infection beneath my diaphragm that required a second surgery and almost killed me. I was in the hospital for almost a month recovering. Just because a medication is available over the counter does not mean that you can take as much as you want, for as long as you want, with no risks. Taking too much aspirin can also cause a stomach bleed.

If someone is given meloxicam 15mg instantly without even trying a lower dosage first, could it cause higher blood pressure? And can it cause feelings like a pressured feeling in head and hands etc? This medication was also in combination with thioctic acid? Can these two medications even be safely put together? The thioctic acid is used to treat neuropathic pains and i feel it may interfere with each other. Also can the increased blood pressure caused from Meloxicam be in the body for longer than 24 hours and causing a increased blood pressure?

QUESTION: So, are you taking NSAIDs with food to decrease absorption or because the drug, while in the stomach, causes direct irritation? If the former, you could take the first dose and get better results.
