For those of you who are curious, "matriculation" means to be enrolled at a school (the student is physically in the classroom). The reason grad schools don't want acceptance rates out there is that such schools a) have a high drop out rate, and b) get turned down by a larger number of students as a percentage to whom they made an offer. Both of those are to be expected on the graduate level.
If a grad school "accepts" 1,000 students and 500 turn it down, that's actually a really great rate but the average person doesn't understand that nuance because they see undergraduate acceptance rates in the news and those numbers are twenty fold.
On the grad level where the number of applications is less than undergrad, news organizations and competitors can spin odd quirks that just so happen to occur on a given year against you, making it seem like a grad school is in trouble. Because undergrad admissions processes such a high volume of applications, they are not affected by such quirks in the math. Thus grad schools tend not to release those numbers while ugrad admissions does.
"Matriculate" comes from the Latin "matrix" meaning "listed". Those lists were written on a "scroll"--literally a "scribbled roll" (original French "rolle scrit")--which is why we "enroll" students (also from the French, their names are "en"-side of the "roll"-ed up paper).
