    I love having my mini consoles. I went to the midnight releases for both the NES and SNES classics. Our town's Walmart got 6 NES classic editions, I was 5th in line for it. We got 20 SNES classic editions, I was 4th in line for it. The Sega Genesis mini was way more easy to locate. I enjoy all 3. I play with with my wife and son. It's convenient and way more affordable than getting the actual hardware and games. Plus, they look great when displayed. Now I'm waiting for Nintendo to release a N64 classic edition.

    Cool to see a big youtuber doing a collaboration with you and paying some respect to the small channels. The small channels are the best IMO.
    With that said why did he call you "retro" and not retrobird?

    A really intelligent and well researched video. I’ve come across a lot of obtuse snobbery from some retro gamers online concerning the mini consoles. Personally I think the mini consoles are incredible and so convenient. Sure it’s emulation but it’s official emulation on proprietary software. Better still, both the SNES and NES minis use SLC NAND which will pretty much last forever

    While I get what you’re saying, AtGames did clean up their act. The 2018 version of their Sega Genesis isn’t bad. It came with 85 pack-in games (which is more than the company brand minis ship with) and with the firmware update, you can use a 16GB SD card for thousands more games. Most of those 16-bit games seem to require kilobytes of data so 16GB is a HUGE number of games. I’ve added nearly 90 games to my Genesis via the SD card and I have hundreds more to add. Yes, AtGames earn a bad reputation, but that newer version of the Genesis is good. The Bluetooth controller links immediately and is responsive and the system seems stable. Either a game runs or is doesn’t boot up, but I haven’t had any crashes.

    Nailed it once again Retro Bird! The mini consoles got me back into gaming and the price was a major factor. Sixty to eighty bucks (100 for TurboGrafx) but hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of games with quality emulation and ready to plug in to a modern TV. Any problems are mostly nitpicking (not enough games, people want different games, controller cords too short for NES and I'd say the SNES as well, only 1 controller included for NES and Turbo, etc). Genesis mini is my favorite. I had never played Beyond Oasis or Gunstar Heroes and now they're two of my favorite games. It's a shame Playstation mailed in their console but a True Blue Mini stick makes it pretty awesome.

    I wish there was an organization like GOG but for console games. In fact I wish GOG themselves would just start doing console games too. Getting these old games to run on modern PC hardware with no DRM headaches, you could preserve them forever. They would get permission from the content owner, like GOG does, to open up a small revenue stream that stopped existing for them decades ago. Then you have a real organization and the content owners responsible for the quality of the games, and not have to rely on a fragmented emulation community with convoluted workarounds.

    • @RetroBirdGaming

      That would definitely be a really popular service!

  • @CasperEgas

    I like most of them. I would say The Astro City Mini is my favourite. Maybe Turbografx mini second, Mega Drive mini third, NES mini fourth, PlayStation mini fifth, SNES mini sixth, C64 mini seventh. Others I don't have, unless the Capcom Home Arcade counts, but that one is really big. Really dislike the choice of games in the SNES mini. I heard others praise it for exactly the same, but I guess tastes differ. It is at least not that varied.

      Retro Bird yeah. Mines actually looking a little yellow too. Is the plastic any different? If it isn’t then it should. I think my nes classic too. People talk about the snes turning yellow more then the nes, and I don’t know why.

    • @RetroBirdGaming
      @RetroBirdGaming  4 года назад +1

      @@xXSpongeBroBrownPantzXx I thought they had said it's a different plastic. The Dreamcast is another console that I feel like suffers from yellowing in a lot of cases.

      Retro Bird it does look and feel like different plastic, I don’t know. My snes is getting yellower and yellower everyday. One day it will grow eyes, a nose, wear brown pants and go to work. Also Nintendo turd box is already out and I bought super Mario toilet simulator 1964 (it was a canceled game by miyamoto when he was 2) I’m sorry.

    I love the idea of mini consoles. Its kitschy. However, I have actually never seen a Nes or SNES mini. There were none here. I would buy both... but can't find them.
    I got my Genesis mini by accident. I think. Long story.
    But I love it. It's cool as hell.
    It would be nice to have the Nintendo versions, but.. again, limited production runs, scalping... I can emulate. Which is too bad, because a mini NES would be awesome. Or I can just buy a shell for my Pi. Nobody wins here Nintendo. Reminds me of ordering Amiibo from Japan. Just send them here!

    • @RetroBirdGaming
      @RetroBirdGaming  3 года назад

      Perhaps they will release the NES and SNES mini again at some point down the road.

    • @andrewt6338
      @andrewt6338 3 года назад

      @@RetroBirdGaming That would be nice. It's not even about the games, it's about collecting. I love collecting Pac -Man stuff for instance. Since this is a Retro channel, have you ever covered points or a timer? Are they outdated concepts? Are trophies or achievements the new version? I like unlocking stuff, but sometimes I am just not good enough. So I don't get to experience the full game. But I didn't earn it either. Currently playing Hydro Thunder, and I have 3 tracks open. Out of around 12. Time is a factor, but what if by grinding enough I could earn a score to unlock new tracks?
      I phrased this poorly, but the evolution of games interests me. Maybe a topic to look into.

      @@matttherrien9608 Missouri. I used to live up north in Louisiana, then St. Charles and St. Peter's. Now I live in Troy. They are essentially spokes of STL.
      Very French and German influenced. Boulevards, beer breweries, and of course Italian food. Got off point there, but I have never actually seen a mini Nes or SNES in person. It's like Momo. Look that up. Probably real, but who knows? Got a Genesis mini pretty easy though. Why? And I had to order a Little Mac Amiibo from Japan. That's ridiculous. Nintendo could have probably sold tons more units if they tried. This ain't exactly the sticks. Have a good one!
