Oh my word - I came to watch this to see if the game would suit our family and in the background our kids were giggling like mad listening to your intro. An encouraging start, as fun is definitely a win!
The manual actually states that the tiles represent the space that a cat would prefer in order to walk around. That's why the tiles can go through walls. Otherwise, these would be some HUGE cats.
Isle of cats has a family mode, which is a little simpler than what i explained here. So it would work for a family. But if it comes down to budget as well, Kingdomino is a very cheap wee game.
Im pretty sure its my favourite one to date. But weirdly, as my friend owns this I won't get a copy. But I immediately backed Planet Unknown which looks really cool as well.
Not played it personally. Looked at it and it seems fine. But just didn't get around to it as it was a borrowed game and I have to give it back to my friend
Solo mode is very thinky and puzzly, it's probably even harder compare to normal mode and you have to think a lot more about what to to get as the AI score base on what's on your boat. I really enjoy solo mode for this game.
Hmm.. meah. Still can't see what the fuss is about?! Looked like a simple tetris style game with the card drafting and other scoring mechanics piled on to make it unnecessarily complicated.
That's a fair assessment. I still think with the card drafting and scoring its not that complicated. Its also why i recommended King Domino and Tiny towns at the end of the video for other options.
it's a really nice puzzle game, but i feel the drafting part is a bit unnecessary. I mean I get why they have the drafting part, but I could've been a faster game without it and it wouldn't really affect the gameplay much
The reason for that is my group seems to play games much faster than most, and some people would say "2 hours to play that, you're lying and clearly didn't play the game as it takes 6 hours" and i finally got sick of it. So instead of telling those people "it's not my fault you are slow" I generalized the play times.
Can't say i agree, but i suspect i get why you feel that way. The lessons can feel pretty swingy, but i felt the more i played it, the less random it got. Which is what i mentioned in the review

Backed this on KS as a present for my daughter. We absolutely love this game... Meow
The greatest lie of this game is that the cats would stay in the same place
This is so very true
The manual actually states that the tiles represent the space that a cat would prefer in order to walk around. That's why the tiles can go through walls. Otherwise, these would be some HUGE cats.
I love your reviews! I've been eyeing this game because my wife loves cats, tile laying, and low complexity games. I'm going to seek this out. Cheers!
I just received this game is a gift. Unpacked it and it's like a cross between D&D and Risk. Thanks for paraphrasing the play book.
dnd??? how??
It's nothing like dnd nor risk.
This was very helpful thank you!
You made this look like a game I'd actually want to play!
2:11 you only get 1 treasure token for covering a matching color coded map symbol.
Cheers.
Great review Jarrod! 3MBG Gold Medal games always get my full attention. Immediately added to my wish list. Thx!
Played this again this week, good times
As some one who still plays Tetris, this game is incredibly appealing. Plus kitties!
Been looking into this one a lot lately. Seems like the card play gives it a bit more game than, say, Barenpark. Thanks for the review!
This review may move this box from the shelf of shame to the play it shelf!
Looks like a fun little game, great review!
A fun cat placement game now there is a genre I didn't know I needed :)
I know right!
Cats and polyominos together at last!
i always like how you compare similar games at the end! Having said that, between this and Kingdomino for family play, which one do you recommend?
Isle of cats has a family mode, which is a little simpler than what i explained here. So it would work for a family. But if it comes down to budget as well, Kingdomino is a very cheap wee game.
I would get this game if it was isle of dogs instead.
(specially if it was in the style of Wes andeson's isle of dogs).
This might just be my favourite polyomino game at the moment.
Im pretty sure its my favourite one to date. But weirdly, as my friend owns this I won't get a copy. But I immediately backed Planet Unknown which looks really cool as well.
@@3MBG great minds... I also backed Planet Unknown 😁
Our piggy also approved this game box! 🥰
Played this one and its very feast for odinish but more simpleish...like it..
I nearly put Feast of Odin as one of the recommends, But it is such a step up in terms of complexity
You only get 1 treasure tile when covering the map with the same color cat.
Yep. My bad
@@3MBG it’s ok
The piggie approved part was awesome!😊🎉
Persephone and Drusilla. Those two were born in our house and are still with us today ;)
What’s the solo mode like?
Not played it personally. Looked at it and it seems fine. But just didn't get around to it as it was a borrowed game and I have to give it back to my friend

I own and enjoy Isle of Cats, I prefer Barenpark as Barenpark doesn't punish you for dead space.
I kinda like that Isle of cats punishes you for empty spaces. Makes the decisions harder
@@3MBG I would, if they gave you more turns
Interesting, by 5 turns our boats were getting very very full

It looks fun! But.... I'll stick to MyCity :)
A CATptivating game you say!?
Always time for bad puns.

That's fair. You could almost get away with "deal 9, choose which ones to keep" or something similar

? I don't remember medium being a quantity of time? I rate this review medium out of a bunch.
The reason for that is my group seems to play games much faster than most, and some people would say "2 hours to play that, you're lying and clearly didn't play the game as it takes 6 hours" and i finally got sick of it.
So instead of telling those people "it's not my fault you are slow" I generalized the play times.
@@3MBG sometimes you can never win no matter what you do. You know what they say "medium is more" XD
Yep. I figured very short, short, Medium, long and bonkers long would cover it :)
@@3MBG My lengths would be c'mon, meh, pretty good, calm down, really?
Bought it on Kickstarter, played it four times, sold it. Game is too random and too much point salad and also far too long for what it is.
Can't say i agree, but i suspect i get why you feel that way. The lessons can feel pretty swingy, but i felt the more i played it, the less random it got. Which is what i mentioned in the review
