Awesome picks Mr David Gonos for the Top 10 of 1953 Topps. Cool story about Satchell Paige and how he got his name. Have a good Monday to you and ✌️ Mr David Gonos.
Great discussion, David. Enjoyed the Willie Mays talk, especially. I have such an affinity for this set over any in the 50’s, even ‘52, because my dad, brother and I opened a lot of packs and put together a set of ‘91 Archives, which reprints this one. Man, what a beautiful set! Do not own a one of them, though. Love the Whitey gallery at the end. Thanks for sharing!
Dude! You watched until the very end! That makes me so happy to hear! I figured people would enjoy that last flurry of weird Whitey poses. That’s so cool you guys opened those ‘91 packs. I bet that was a blast!
Speaking of wars stealing stats, how about Ted Williams. I’ve argued he could’ve been the greatest ever ( top 5 for sure) . He was the real life “NATURAL”. Also a good looking guy like Redford.
Very true, the Splendid Splinter! I saw a thing today on ESPN saying Judge was like 26 RBI higher than 2nd place in RBI race. Biggest gap between 1st and 2nd in September since Ted Williams in 1942. Crazy.
Nice! Take really good pictures, figure out the superstars from the commons, and check pricing on the latest eBay sales on 130point.com - if they are in great condition, consider getting them graded with PSA, then sell them.
The Artistry of the 53 Topps Set is beautiful! This is why I love the vintage 50s cards! Thanks for sharing!
Right!?! The Topps Living set does a pretty great job with these paintings, too. I want to get a Shohei.
happy hobby
I love the artwork on those vintage sets! Thanks for the history lesson Mr Gonos!!
Hahah thanks WPD! Man, I’d love to find out if any of those original paintings still exist!

When I got back into collecting a grabbed a 1953 Dizzy Trout because the picture cracked me up (and he's in a Red Sox uniform)
Nice! I love stories like that! Thanks, Benjamin!
This was a great topic
Thanks my friend!
If I had a choice I'll pick Satchel and Roy out of the top 10.
Yeah man, I’d love to add a PSA 1 Satchel to my collection at some point!
