      Hi Darren. I agree. The current superbikes with all the wings, just don’t look as stylish to me. And the GP bikes just look like a complete mess compared with the old GP bikes of the 90s. Given the choice of any classic Superbike, which one would you have? Thanks for watching my video and for leaving me a comment 👍

    I feel very fortunate that I stored in a garage my 1st bike that I bought after passing my test, it was 1994 and my Fireblade owning friend advised against getting such a powerful machine straight away so I bought a two year old baby blade - a NC29 CBR400RR, I used this for several years and when we had children put it aside in favour of a car. 20 years later one of my boys bought his first bike mainly for commuting to work which rekindled a little interest in two wheels, so last summer I spent most of June refurbishing the CBR400RR and ended up with a bike I am so pleased to own and ride. Like you said you can rock up at a bike meet and have something everybody wants cos it's so analogue without all the electronic gizzmo's. I'd say it's even better than before on account of modern sticky tyres, so if this is your sort of thing don't skimp on the tyres and you will have a machine that looks after you.

    • @mymoto-uk

      Hi David. I loved reading this!! What a story and to read that you stopped riding because you had children and it’s now your son getting into bikes that’s got you back out on it again, is just magic. I wasn‘t even born when these bikes were out but I love them more than any newer bike. I‘ve ridden a few newer bikes, MT-07, SMCR 690, CBR500R but none of them were as fun and engaging as my 1995 ZXR 400.
    Sure, I need to rebuild my front brake calipers, I gotta clean the tank since it‘s starting to rust, I gotta rebuild the fuel petcock since it‘s leaking and I gotta rebuild the engine since it‘s got 40k km and slurps oil like fuel but man is it fun to ride this bike.
    None of the bikes I‘ve ridden till now had the same effect on me as this one. As soon as I got on one and test rode it, I knew that I wanted it. All of these bikes were fun, let‘s be real, all bikes are stupid fun, but none of them were as fun as that small, 400cc 4cyl that revs to 14k RPM and starts to haul your ass only when you‘re above 10k RPM.
    And now that I do, I don‘t regret it and I‘d recommend to anybody getting into bikes to get a smaller, older, less powerful 4 cylinder from the 90‘s and even late 80‘s.
    Simple, reliable (if you know what to look for), teach you how to ride properly and are just an awful lot of fun.

      Hi twisted35. There is so much love for the older sports bikes, but then the 400s have an even stronger core of followers. Absolutely agreed coming from a 53 year old who’s had 17 bikes from the 70’s to the 90’s. It’s lovely to hear you as a younger person acknowledging that the old bikes were better
      New bikes may have better brakes and bigger tyres now but they have no soul. No feedback for the rider with too many aids on board and more to go wrong.
      I had the zzr400 and zzr600 d2 and Zzr 1100 all amazing bikes and bulletproof engines. No lie my Zzr 1100 kept up with my mates Zzr 1400 up to 130 then he started to leave me. So what the speed limit is only 70 lol

    I love the 90's and 80's sport bikes, those dual round headlamps, I remember collecting magazines and posters about them. Reading articles on Cycle World Magazine, how they test them, on track and on the road. The only problem you will encounter for them are the spare parts. (Assuming you had the money to spent on it.)

    • @mymoto-uk
      @mymoto-uk  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi strikefreedom. I remember the days of reading Performance Bikes magazine and cutting our pictures of these bikes and sticking them in the back of my school planner 😄. It's a shame that Performance bikes magazine is now a thing of the past as well as a lot of the other magazines of that time. Nowadays, Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and Classic Sportsbike Magazine seem to be the popular titles, which could show a shift in interest but also that the younger generations that are into newer bikes just aren't interested in reading a magazine any more. So far I've not had a problem finding parts and the price of them has been comparable to a newer bike, that could be model dependent though. I'm sure that getting parts for something like a Honda RC30 would be more difficult? With the Kawasaki, none runner scrappy one's can always be picked up really cheap and used as a donor bike. I hope you like our video, thanks for watching and leaving me a comment 👍

      Hi thatwolffe. The RC30 stands along side the 0W01 as one of the most iconic and desirable classic Superbikes that exist. Manual Chokes and the feel of riding a carbed bike are both unfortunately going the same way as 2 strokes and becoming an experienced that only the fortunate will have had. These bikes are so special to ride and the chance to get hold of a good one is becoming more and more difficult. But like you said, at least maintaining them is easy, once these bikes modern Superbikes with all their electronic wizardry get old and need parts, they’ll be near impossible to keep running. Great video, my last bike back in the early 90’s was a Gixer 750 L in the white & blue finish, it was the first year with the upside down front forks, had a D&D race pipe on it, loved that sound, in comparison some 35 years later back on bike with a street triple 765 R the tech on bikes now really surprised me just how things like traction control isn’t intrusive on my level of riding. The quick shifter does make me smile, just how quick and smooth it is up and down the box it’s very clever, I’m pretty sure weight wise it’s around 25kg lighter very agile, one thing it really needs is a new pipe (one day hopefully)

Totally original. Like you said, it's not about just riding them ,it's all the maintenance and tinkering that just becomes consuming and a delightful passtime. Roll on summer 2024.😀😀

      Hi Terry. I think the tinkering is what makes owners attachments to these bikes so strong. You end up knowing them inside and out. You get a deeper mechanical sympathy for them and you can feel the small changes in how they run. The thought of handling over one of my bikes to be plugged into a diagnostics system is completely foreign to me 😄. Thank you for watching and for leaving me a comment 👍

    I bought a badly neglected Kawa ZX7R for €1300 and am currently getting it back up and running. Man, this motorcycle has character! I've put my CBR1000RR in storage. The motorcycles of the 90s are so much more fun. Pure motorcycling without all the electronic gadgets. Back to the roots. I live 15 minutes' drive from the Nürburgring. The ZX7R will be my motorcycle for the Nordschleife.

    Have a ZZR1200, a last of a kind. Even though I don’t ride her enough, I just can’t do without. She is Very reliable and requires little maintenance. My son’s Z900 from 1995 is maybe less reliable but just as well a fantastic bike to ride, once the engine is running nothing will stop her. Nothing beats either of them on the Italian Autostrada or along the see of Liguria. These bikes deserve being maintained and driven!

    As a man now of a certain age, these are the bikes that we all yearned for but couldn’t afford as late teens, early 20 somethings.. I never owned a ZX7R, but my mate had one when I had a Ducati 916.. Those were the days.
    I had so many bikes back then, forever changing them to try something different 😄
    Today I do have a few tucked away.. a ‘99 Suzuki TLR, ‘98 GSXR750 SRAD, ‘01 Kawasaki ZX12R, ‘99 CBR900RR Fireblade, ‘91 CBR1000F, and last but not least…a lovely g/w/b Kawasaki ZXR750 H2. My favourite bike 😊💚

    New to yr channel. Think you hit every nail on the head. I might be a gen before you even. On my wall was a VF750f, guess what, cheap as chips 3 years ago. 40yr old classic, superbike? Don’t know about that but was a world leader in it’s day. Shame about those chocolate cams! All good now and I love it. Other bike is a 20yr old VFR800 (it’s all about the V4 with me). BOTH cost less than £800ea to buy. Admittedly the VF need a grand of resto work but now runs and rides great. The VFR, well it’s a VFR enough said. Great assessment. I've a ZXR J1 ('91) and I love it. I've done quite a bit of work to it to get it to it's current condition but I've still got some items on my 'list' that need addressing, all in good time. I bought it three years ago, spent 7 months restoring it and put about 5k miles on it since. It was my 'poster bike' back in the day and it sits proudly next to the 2022 R1. I gotta say, the plan was to have it as a garage queen but the keys to it just end up in my hand waaaaaaay more often than I thought they would and I'm off for a spin on it. It does get a fair amount of attention from bikers and Joe public. When I've parked it up I ALWAYS have to turn around and take a second look as I'm walking away, can't believe I finally have one and it only took me 30 years to get there, it's just that kinda bike. Yes, some days it has it's foibles and others it just purrs like a kitten, I wouldn't have it any other way. Next on the radar is a decent SRAD, never should have sold my '00. Liked and subbed 👍

I've ridden many sportsbikes over the years but never have I ridden another that tracks through a corner with such stability. Aprilia know how to engineer a frame! Made for some interesting oddities, though. My bike was on the production line after the Colin Edwards edition bikes and they seemed to just be using what was left on the shelves before moving to gen2 production. I'm a late bloomer when I learned how to ride(got my license in my late 20's), but even though the 2 bikes I currently own are from when I started(2010/2011), the other era is definitely the 90's partially due to its impressions that it evoked to me as a kid during that time. I always said that one day, I'll own something from that era, used to be i had my sights on the 2 stroke 250's, but now it could also be the bikes like the 900rr or zx7. Nostalgia, style, analog like experience, character, love it.

    Hit the nail on the head mate. The 90's superbikes just feel special when you ride them. They are raw, and you have to work then to get them to go. But yes, not great for everyday. Or long hauls on a cold night lol

      @mymoto-uk  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Frank. It sounds like you're talking from experience there with the long haul on a cold night part 😄. Something I do find with the ZX7R's is that the radiator is so large that on cold days, they really struggle to warm up. And, that is like I said in the video, some days they are smooth and others they're lumpy and rough. But that's the character with them. Thanks for watching the video and for leaving me a comment 👍

    • @frankensteinsgarage9632
      @frankensteinsgarage9632 8 месяцев назад +1

      @mymoto-uk you could say that, haha. I'm sure every biker is the same, we ve had days when you had to get home. Probably didn't have the money to stay somewhere and / or you had work the next day. So you just had to soldier on. Push through the relenting cold. Hands numb. Exhausted from shivering. Amd you wonder to yourself, where's that excess heat that I complain about on hot summer days, coming from the gaps on those ZXR750 fairings. But its funny, even though I think we've all had some pretty horrendous moments on those bikes when we're younger, I'm glad they happened.
      But as life changes and hopefully you can afford to have a second bike, or the bike is not your only form of transport. Then you can just purely ride for the enjoyment. Your video spoke volumes mate. Very much could relate. Thank you

    I currently run a GSXR 1000 K2, and it is just fantastic.I did make some modifications such as a Brembo front brake master cylinder and front disc rotors,venhill braided brake lines front and rear,a Yoshimura full tri-oval exhaust system,k and n filter and it really does benefit from the NGK iridium R plugs.I also replaced the lead acid battery with a Shido lithium ion one,I also fitted alloy rear sets.
    The bike is an absolute joy to ride being nimble,light,with confidence inspiring handling thanks in part to the Michelin pilot power tyres.Currently, the odometer is showing only 13,210 miles.I can't see myself replacing it as it does everything so well,compared to the latest iterations of the GSXR,I personally think that the K2 is noticeably lighter,handles better and has none of the electronic rider "aids" of the current generation and to me the K2 is all the better for it.

      Hi Darkknight. You are one of the many people on here who have said that they prefer their bike because it has no rider aids, maybe it’s all the technology and cost that has killed of some of the superbike market since its boom days in the 90s and early 2000s? I think you’ve got an incredible bike there with your K2, I remember the magazines raving about its 3rd gear power wheelies when it was launched. I think it was the K1 and K2 that made Yamaha realise they weren’t going to have it all their own way with the R1. Thank you for watching the video and for leaving us a comment 👍

    • @darkknight1340
      @darkknight1340 9 месяцев назад +1

      @mymoto-uk I think that the main problem with the electronic rider aids is that a lot of riders are of the opinion that they can ride faster than their skill level warrants, and the ABS,Traction control etc will get them out of trouble.

    I had a MASSIVE luck with mine, zero engine problems.
    On the other hand, suspension never had an general review and rear shock needed one new too but the engine, what a find...
    what i love at the moment, the looks of the bike, a lot of new riders don't understand that it is a 2000s super bike, dont understand that it has 140cv at the wheel, it's lighter than a LOT of 600s of now and has zero electronics helpers, except the low fuel light xD

But my "runner" is my 99 gsxr750. I still do some caning long journeys on it cross continent with soft luggage and it's ok, and it still scratches nicely. It's begging for some upgraded suspension and refurbishment but for how old it is it has been pretty dependable all in all. The last years caned it a bit as it got left outside unused during COVID.. crying shame but it's still alive.. just need the time and a workshop to fettle it back up. newer bikes might be better on stats but the reward from riding something more analogue is supreme. New bikes just seem a bit lacking in soul. As a road rider a 90s bike is still faster than most people can handle when wound up.

      Hi Laponiec. Thank you. I do like the old 1995 zx6r's with the squared off back end and I also have a soft spot for the 2003 on B1H models because they were a full RR model. Thank you for watching the video and for leaving me a comment 👍

    Great video and lovely to see older bikes being covered. I agree that time takes its toll and maintenance costs have to be considered but, compared to modern bikes (out of warranty) they are cheap. There are massive amounts of used parts and techs who can fix them. I’ve had 4 vfr’s, fireblade 96, R1 2000, sp1, firestorm 98 etc…Aprilia from a few carb balance issues and usual brake and suspension maintenance, all where spot on.

      Hi Andrew. I’d love to have a go on a sp1 or sp2 one day. I got really close to buying one around about 5 years ago and I’ve regretted not getting it even since. I bet they are something else to ride and that sound as well. Thanks for watching and leaving me a comment 👍

    Got a 99 tl1000r, 92 gsxr1100n, 86 gsxr750 slabside, all poster bikes when I was much younger reading performance bike mags. Not a lot of newer stuff does it for me, perhaps a post 2017 gsxr1000.

      Hi David. I didn’t realise how popular the TL1000r was, loads of people have commented on here to say they have them. I’ve always loved them but thought they were overlooked. It’s good to see they have still got a strong following. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

    I had a zx7r years ago when it wasn't that old. I had nothing but issues with it. I literally had to work on it more than I rode it. Ioved the look, especially the red ones, but man, it always needed something.

      Hi doubleaaaron. That's such a shame. I've only had a few minor problems with my two. One had a small electrical issue when a wire rubbed though the insulation and the other had a fuel pump fail, which I think was because it was sat for a few years with fuel in it before I got it. I have read on the forums of people having the odd one that just seems to keep throwing up faults. For me, that was what my old Triumph T595 was like, it became a money pit but only because I liked it so much I persevered in vein for over 14 years with it. I hope you enjoyed watching the video and thank you for leaving me a comment 👍

      Hi Empower. It sounds like you've got a great collection going on. The vintage dirt bikes are gaining so much popularity these days and I think that the Evo class has helped with that. We attended the VMXDN last year and it was so good to see the 90's CR's, KX's and YZ's racing. Thank you for watching our video and thanks for leaving me a comment. 👍

    Over the years I've had many bike since '92 on the road and one thing i will say thinking about the RD350YPVS and the TL1000S in particular that i owned which were nearly new at the time of ownership is that even with care and attention they weren't built to last,built to a price they were great for a couple of years and then it was a conveyer belt of wear and tear issues and worse.The '95 CBR600 on the other hand felt like it would run for ever.Just be careful what you buy.

      Hi Graham, For sure, you've definitely got to do your research before you buy one to make sure you avoid any pitfalls. But if you do get a good one, like your cbr600f, then they are hard to beat. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment. 👍

    ZX7R..... was the poster on my wall as a teenager. I used to dream of owning one. Unfortunately I never got round to getting one. Now they are out of my price range, that's if i can even find one for sale.
    I've got a gen5 vfr800 which i plan on keeping.

      Hi Mothy. I really like the 5th Gen VFR 800's. I have been told that they were way better than the later version with the under seat exhaust's?

    • @Mothy2014
      @Mothy2014 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@mymoto-uk yes, the 5th gen with gear driven cams is a great engine. Once Honda went to VTEC in 2002 they lost some appeal in my opinion. But some people love them. PS A mate of mine still has his 1996 Srad gsxr750. He bought it brand new and he still rides it today.
