This or KOF98 is probably my favorite KOF games in history
Eyyyyyy Justin
From these 2, for certain 98. But we all know that 2002 is the greatest of them all.
Agreed!
U don't like 2002?
@@suneelkumar555 He probably likes 2002, but his favorite is just between 98 and XIII.
This game's visuals were so good that it made me attempt to learn the game despite not knowing anything about KOF.
Overmuscled guys, disco pants and freaking fat people on every second stage? This is worst visuals ever made in KoF history.
@@Petronixman Who?
@@Petronixman Yeah some characters looked off with this artstyle but it did look good. Yuri, Athena, Terry, Ralf and Clark had ugly designs
@@imaginaryfriend6844 Gachimuchi Ralf and Clark, overbuffed Terry with disco pants, Kyo, Kim with disco pants and a lot of ugly fat people on arenas and many more.

Most KoF fans: "Ah yes; the complete legacy so far"
KoF XII: ". . .b-but what about me?"
Most KoF fans: "Yup; the COMPLETE legacy; pretty sure I didn't forget anything."
Maximum Impact: “You too?”
It was weird that it went from KoF11 to KoF13, but that's just how things go.
Vanilla KOF 2002: *Crying in the Corner*
Look, he talked about it for the first 30 seconds
KOF2006 😢
The real reason the roster is the way it is is simply because animating characters like this is labor-intensive; they basically rendered in 3D and then drew over every frame pixel-by-pixel. The results speak for themselves, but it just wasn't viable.
Can you tell me where to find more information about KOF XIII’s development? Thank you in advance.
@@mistakenumber7880 The stuff about the graphics I got from SNK's own website, so you can start by taking a look over there, under the KOF Anniversary.
@@falguard Thank you so much.
Yeah it really was a taxing process which meant that some chars were to be cut in the end and for me Adelheid is the tough pill to swallow since he was heavily involved in this game's story.
@@mistakenumber7880 so many characters were cut off from 13. Geese and Adelheid were supposed to be in the game but were cut off because of time constraints.
It's a shame that we may _never_ get a fighting game that looks like this *ever* again...
Arcsys still doin' their thing yeah, but this game's graphics really are one of a kind.
KOF XIII is the best looking sprite based Fighting game to date, not much company want to upscale their sprite and the amount of animation frame on the sprite is just Amazing, Kim's Pants is absolutely work of art on this game, too bad we maybe never gonna get this kinda sprite for like forever because it takes to much time.
Not really Examu and Frenchbread are doing detailed and fluid spritework in their games. Even Arcsys still does some here and there in BlazBlue CTB with the Rubi characters. Just look at how good Examu made Iori look in Million Arthur Arcana Blood.
Tis dated at this point! A relic of the past
Great nes. i dont want to see this overmuscled guys, disco pants and freaking fat people on every second stage. Worst design ever made in KoF history.
@@Petronixman literally no one cares. stop posting this same reply under every comment
KOF XIII had so much to offer. But no one got around to playing it at launch. Now it's a hit after all those years.
I never played KOF before unfortunately but I will definitely be playing KOF XV though. The game just looks great.
@@RenegadeGaming777 always glad to see someone positive about KOFXV
Why is it a hit what happened?
I have it on pc but don't know what happened that is hype right now
SNK could have just updated the gameplay a little add new characters and stages and I would prefer that over kof 14 n 15 3D. Kof 13 had the bad luck to come out at the same time as MvC3 a game I loved at the time, that when I go back to now feels really slippery, jarring and crappy. When compared to KOF 13 still feels responsive tight fast and dynamic. KoF13 is in the top 3 of the 2nd fighting game golden age.
But they COULDN'T do that tho! Those sprites are EXPENSIVE as hell and they alone is what almost drove SNK to bankruptcy.....AGAIN!(they're not even that much better financially now unfortunately) this game at least got the spotlight it deserves, but they will NEVER go back to those sprites because they didn't help with sales despite how good they were(very much diminishing returns for them)
The craziest thing about KOF XIII is that, despite all of the amazing work put into the character sprites (literally traced over polygonal models, frame by frame(!), and those models were then partially used for XIV), the outstanding gameplay, and the memorably bittersweet ending for Ash Crimson... This is still technically an incomplete game, at least when compared to everything SNK Playmore wanted to put in. Mukai was apparently supposed to be an actual boss fight, Shroom & Botan were also supposed to be fightable (if not be part of a "Those From the Past" team), Rose & Adelheid were meant to have much more importance, & I think a couple of other things; the Story Mode even hints at some of this, especially for Shroom. It's just that making those sprites were such an endeavor that the staff had to keep cutting stuff that was planned just so that the game could even get finished.
Also, I have a feeling we'll never see the return of Shion, despite him being confirmed as having escaped Magaki's dimensional portal (via on the the team endings in XI), which is a shame since I thought he was a cool character.
Shroom and Botan were to team up with Saiki imo and Iori was supposed to have Oswald and a newcomer in his team but due to time constraints they were replaced by Mature and Vice but Adelheid's exclusion is quite sad.
I will always be salty about how little Adelheid's been used.
Damn. So even though XIII was more of a complete version of XII, it STILL wasn't finished? We need a 3rd release, SNK!!! >.
@@tailedgates9 I wouldn't call XIII "unfinished" by any means, but the team at SNK Playmore were definitely way too ambitious with it, in some regards.
Damn, This game holds an special place on my heart. I played a shit ton of this game since it was on arcades and completed all the trials 10 years ago on console version. Here on my city we had an official XIII arcade bought to SNK and there was an amazing opening tournament when XIII released and the cabinet was available. Here on Mexico if it wasn't for the 2002 hacked versions, this was the most played KOF at that time. When it released on console there was tournaments left and right on the whole country. Sadly it's online was baaaaaaad. The music, the stages, the characters, the art are amazing. If at that time this game would have a decent online this would have been the most successful KOF. Glad that despite the years a lot of people respect this game despite not playing or not being a KOF fan. Thanks for doing this whole series Max it has been amazing watching you play KOF, It's like I'm living once again my favourite videogame saga of all time.
Agreed, hacks aside, this probably was the most played KOF game, and I have to say that is beacuse of the hacks that I kinda despised to play KOF against other players as they were crybabies if they didn't have unlimited Super meter or super fast charging said bar, outside fighting other players, I could play them whenever I didn't want to take it seriously against the AI (because of that when it comes to 2002, I liked to play 2002 UM/Road to Revenge more than the vanilla game as it was back in the day impossible to find hacked versions of UM)
You beat Vice & Daimon's trials 👀???
@@looknofurther6885 Yeah I remember I left last Daimon and Ash both trial 9 bc I was having trouble with those. Vice was not that hard if I remember well.
@@dhanocore im glad they changed that input command. It was unnecessarily difficult evn Justin Wong & Max had trouble w it. They've finally improved that fan gripe.. Kudos to SNK program team
Pues de qué parte de México eres? XD
SNK needs to hire code mystics to put rollback netcode into this game and it would be perfect. I also wish they had an "UM" version for this saga with these visuals. One could only dream.
My dream would be a UM release with rollback netcode and scrapped characters like Oswald and Adelheid. That'd be fantastic
for how good KOF XV is selling they for sure will have the money to do it, it's already on Steam best sellers.
Rollback got added
I really like Ash saga, man. I love the general sad ending with Betty, but completely forgot how big of a hommies Shen and Duo Lon were standing there for a whole day waiting for Elizabeth to go out after wanting to be alone griefing Ash's loss
Despite not liking the story of Ash Saga.
The finale was bittersweet.
Poor Betty 😢
Too bad KOF XIV ruined that bittersweet ending making Ash returning
I am not a fan of bringing back characters that were officially dead or erased from story.
@@rainofkhandaq6678 No she was the only one who didn't forget him
Ash Saga is the best Saga in KoF.
How can I be so brave, and so correct?
The only KOF to this day to be in EVO 3 years straight, and my fav KOF of all time, such a beautiful and fun game.
EVO tournaments of this game were hype af. Watching someone getting fullscreen murdered by Beni's neomax super was *amazing.*
Honestly kof 13 is kinda boring to watch
Yeah the top 8 for Evo 2012 especially the Grand Finals b/w Bala and MadKof was legendary and Reynald's Evo 2013 loser bracket run is something so great.
@@tanusrichandra6286 compare to the other games around that time it was vastly interesting to watch only thing more interesting to watch was Zangief in sf4

Max: tries to "Hit your opponent with 3 hits of Normals..."
The AI almost immediately: "FOOT DIVE"
I heard Doom and it was glorious. XD
One thing I've learned from this KOF legacy is that SNK doesn't shy away from giving bosses all the cheapness.
Was so happy to see this episode is almost an hour long. Easily my favorite KOF and arguably my favorite fighting game of all time.
While this game may not have been stupidly popular in its heyday, with it getting a small revival much later, I have a feeling KoF XV with avenge XIII and be a hit from the very beginning, and stay that way without falling off quickly. This game, while difficult was way too fun and good looking to deserve its fate.
It was indeed beautiful and fun.
I unfortunately have very low expectations for 3D SNK by hey, we will see.
@@TheControlBlue Agreed, 3D SNK and Capcom just look bad and because of that there's a constant barrier to mass appeal.
picked this game up to play with friends one weekend deal, and i could hit almost no links with the characters that interested me. that and the troublesome netplay turned me off, but i'm hoping to give XV a try when i can.
Man, it's not even THAT hard, I hate this belief about the game; if you can do low>low>special>super you can DEFINITELY play the game just fine
@@bloomallcaps I just said it was difficult. Does it mean it's THAT hard? not necessarily. What I really meant by hard was it's high skill ceiling, and I was thinking of those combo trials.
I think after the last 3 games it's safe to say that the Ash Saga is Max favorite, who could ever predict that? XD
I’m really hoping that Shen Woo and Dou Lon will make into KOFXV as DLC.
You and me both. Two of my favorite characters. I also like Shion.
"Doesnt he remember KOF 12?"
"NOBODY remembers KOF 12."
Kof 12 doesnt exist
Never mention again
When you put it that way early Street Fighter 5 should be forgotten too. 😅😂
@@RenegadeGaming777 I mean sorta? The thing is that sfv kept getting better and better over time, meanwhile xii stayed in that beta-esque feel
I love xii
I have a copy of KOF 12 on the ps3 to see why no one likes, now I see why everyone don’t like KOF12,I hope snk make an ultimate dream match edition in the future and fix everything about it.
The best of the bunch, for me. I have this level....or maybe just the tiniest smidge below CvS2, as my favourite fighting game of all time. It does help that I grew up playing through the KoF lore like a lot of people here. I've definitely got some bias going on...
i've always loved the stages in kof. they give you a feeling of "big fight" energy
My fav fighting game of all time. I wished that SNK would bring rollback to this game and patch up some of the balance issues (esp with the DLC characters). I'm sure this game will go down in KOF history as one of the greats along with 98 and 02.
Man, I really wanted to see KOF XII.
Here's the one thing that makes KOF XII interesting: it plays more like it's Art Of Fighting 4 than a KOF game.
I have yet to see Max play it once. If he's not gonna do it now either, it would be nice to see it maybe as part of an Art Of Fighting retrospective. That would prepare him for the gameplay better than coming off of KOF XI.
KoF XIII, the game that introduced me to one of my all time favourite characters in Elisabeth (So glad she's back, now if only they could add in Kasumi Todoh to XV), and had my favourite rendition of Billy's theme The London March. I may suck at this game but goddamb do I still love playing it.
Watching KOFXIII combo videos has been an obsession of mine for a while. The game is just pretty to look at, the soundtrack is amazing, and the combo variety and routes are expansive (for most characters). Highly recommend Persona Entertainment's channel for a full list of vids covering every character. Duo Lon, Ash, Hwa Jai and Joe were probably my favorite for showing just how good they could be compared to how even pros were playing them, though I learned a lot from all of them.
For me it was Ash, Duolon, Hwa Jai, Reg.Kyo, Benimaru and Takuma
I like that this KoF "rewards" you with the little miscellaneous quest with special meter.
Yeah KOF XIII the game everybody says now "i wish the next KOF could look like XIII" but when was launched almost everyone criticized, Third Strike effect
I’ve noticed that happens with a lot of games from all types of different genres not just fighting games. I guess it’s because sometimes people just won’t give games a proper chance at first but then they do years later which is why so many games end up being late hits that people remember fondly
Definately a team of Shen, Duo Long and Oswald I'd like, theirs not enough Ash Saga characters in recent games.
Yeah, have that team with a solo Adel in 2023 would be perfect.
Yes, yes it is, the best 2D sprites, one of the best gameplays, this is top tier KOF
I love how, even while possessed, Dark Ash is still overflowing with smug.
That "Ohrah~!" kills me XD
The sound design? Top notch. Foley FX, soundtrack, voiceover.
Spritework speaks for itself.
Haven't played the game myself, brain doesn't work well when it comes to fighting games, but the combos seem very crunchy and satisfying like Max says.
I can't play fighting games for crap. Players like Max and Justin Wong seem like fighting Gods to me because I can only dream of being half as good as them lol
Despite that I own over 80 fighting games.
I'm good enough in the mobile version of 13 of all things lol, since special moves are made simple in that version. The tight link window is a non-problem when you can just spam the special attack button until it comes out, the stuffs Max did in this video with Shen and Duo Lon is piss easy as a result.
@@altnova6643 I recommend taking off the "Simple special moves" in the settings once you want to progress further.
I started playing fighting games this way and it really helps with the basics of fighting games (such as fireball motion and dp motions) if you choose to play shoto characters to learn command inputs.
After learning to do command inputs precisely on your mobile device, you might not even want to turn on Simple special moves ever again lol.
I just love this soundtrack... The intro, the menus, the teams themes... It's just too perfect
I used to watch tournament matches from this Kof, it was really fun
It's great to see 2D fighting games still be made in the modern era
KOF 13 is actually my favorite one. The animation and all was well done.
The most underrated game in the whole series (my first KOF ever) with the BEST Sprite work we'll never ever see again...
I'm also trying to figure out why people like Shen honestly.. like sure he looks cool but his moveset this far hasn't shown me anything interesting besides sub par punching ya know? And Vanessa does the punchy punches way better and cooler...
Has Max just not done much with him so far or am I not wrong?
Comes down to playstyle I think. Shen is more Balrog to Vanessa's Dudley ya know? Ya gotta play him to get it. AND he looks cool.
Vanessa is a million tiny punches, Shen is like 20 big honkin PAUNCHES. Very different feeling, I want Shen back, badly lmao.
I think the most underrated is KOFXI, especially because of the lack of ports, but quite a few people consider KOFXIII the best of the saga, perhaps because another slightly underrated game like KOF 2002 UM hasn't been given as many hours of gameplay XD
I think they like Shen because he is a not so complicated character to play, but for me it was an attempt to replace Yashiro, this is because they resemble each other in personality and design.
KoF11 is definitely the most underappreciated and underexposed KoF. 13 if anything is obnoxiously overrated.
People underrate this? Who are these people?🤔
Played it so much both on PC (when the arcade version got leaked), at the arcades in china, Hong Kong and Japan. Even joined a couple of tournament in shenzhen back when it was released. People hated 12 then 13, i honestly liked both haha, from the art design and the combat system
Agreed, XIII is where you start KoF. The smaller cast and simpler matchups, combined with the looser, more forgiving controls really does make it the definitive "first KoF experience" now.
Seeing Max explaining about the importance of a fighting game being FUN, then closes up the 🎤 to the controls and hearing the CLICKING sounds of the Buttons, just shows why I love seeing his videos. HE GETS IT. He understands Fighting Games, maybe even more than EVO PROFESSIONALS…..
I'm in the historical minority, but this was my favorite KoF.
A lot of people love 13, but there's also a vocal group of people who trash this game any time it gets brought up.
@SNES Nes
-Combos are too long even for KOF
-This is the only game that gets consistent praise from the FGC(not exactly kof fans) while the other games are just sort of ignored
-this game is constantly praised for its visuals, even though it dramatically changed how many characters looked ina bad way, many characters just have odd proportions while characters like elisabeth, kyo and iori look great, while clark doesnt even look human anymore
-a lot of fanfavorites are missing, I aint even talking characters whos absence makes perfect sense like rugal and orochi team, but characters that were fairly common place in kof, like vanessa, blue mary, choi, shingo kasumi, many which to this day still havent come back
-many characters lost so many moves, kim lost its rekkas, yuri her command normals, clark his command grab with his legs just to name a few, and many moves are just getting them back, and yet they still miss many
-many of these caused due to the sprite work, which many people insist SNK should go back to, even tho capcom was allowed to move on to 3D with no issue
TL;DR
This game is a massive departure in many ways of how kof is like rather than an evolution and it has become the Standard in which every other KOF game is judged by people whos their only KOF game is XIII
I would love an entire KOF collection that's stops at this game on one disc or digital download.
KOF 13 feels and looks clean. It's funny how everyone wanted 15 to be this style
Dont know but why every one love overmuscled guys, disco pants and freaking fat people on every second stage?
Do you want SNK to going bankrupt again?
Making this artstyle was SO expensive that almost killed the company
Maybe if SNK hits the right spots and kof XV, as well as a couple more future KoFs, sells really good, they'll bring this animation style back, one can only dream
@@meganinten0078 ouch 😬 rly? I didn't know this theme costed so much 😬
@@furrywarrior7642 Yeah.
Both KOF XII and XIII were so expensive to make.
After XIII the company fired many employees and was almost over, it barely survived the upcoming years making mobile games.
I still think they need a dream match for the Ash Saga. I can't see that happening without them downgrading their sprites though.
Unfortunately, KOF XII is supposed to be the Dream Match game for the Ash Saga. Why? I have no idea
@@zachataxxii7126 It's not really a dream match. Some people just consider it as such because there's no story. But there's no element of a dream match, and was originally meant to, well, have XIII's story and boss and everything. But they couldn't finish it in time and SNK needed the money so they released XII in a quite unfinished state and then XIII a bit after.
7:37 Did...did he just put the mic to his "stick" to have us listen to him beating it? lol
Uuugh, this game is forever breathtaking and one of my favorites on a more visual stand point, as well as the closing saga of Ash and The Ones of the Past.
Randomly got this game on my xbox 360 a few years back, easily still one of the most memorable games purely cos of the visuals and the soundtrack (which I still listen to today), absolutely insane game especially considering i was an extreme casual a few years back
I bought this game recently as an average fighting game player. Someone who can do the inputs but lacks fundamentals. That being said, this is the greatest fighting game ive ever played. As someone with good input knowledge, this game caters to me completely. Great art style, banger songs each stage, and unique characters that make you want to learn every character. This game also does a great job at making pixel models feel modern. I wish this game had more traction because I think the legacy players will feel at home with the mechanics, but new players will see the cool roster and be encouraged to learn the game to get good with these characters.
I love that you can really feel the rhythm of each character's combo routes in XIII
This was the game that got me into KOF! Love it!
Some conclusions here:
I'm not sure if this is canonical but it may have actually been the combined effort of Betty, Kyo and Iori who fought the true form of Saiki as well as Ash after Saiki's soul overwhelmed him.
Now we already know how things ended with Betty but if the endings i saw are to be believed it was Kyo's official team who won the tournament.
Iori got his magatama back as well as getting Chizuru's mirror, Vice and Mature ask if he really wants it back cause the Yasakani magatama held Orochi's curse the riot of the blood ultimately Iori keeps it and he and Kyo start fighting again. (Don't worry they return the Yata mirror after) oh and like everyone else except Betty they also lost all memory of Ash Crimson.
OH almost forgot, the disappearance of Ash contributed to the appearance of Verse kof 14.
Not gonna lie, I simp hard for Saiki. XD Fun to play as too. What I wouldn't give for KOF to return to this kind of sprite and artwork.
"duo lon is crazy fun in this game"
Max, you should try hwa jai.
The game that seriously got me into KoF, from the combo system, controls, and one of the best visuals I've seen in a fighting game. Plus how fun and busted Kim Kapwhan was(I will say though some character styles like Buff Ralf and Clark or Athena I could leave behind).
Idk.
I really like how Athena and Kensou look in XIII
It is a reference to their design in the original Psycho Soldier arcade game.
@@meganinten0078 I agree with Kensou having one of his best looks in this game imo but for Athena I just never liked the schoolgirl aesthetic along with how young she looked. Same with Clark and Ralf looking more like Ikari Warriors but too buff for my liking.
@@kingdomcomesuperman3669 Oh well.
Different tastes.
I like the anime artstyle KOF XIII has.
It is different but not bad.
Takuma and Mai look much better in XIII than previous games
@@meganinten0078 Definitely, Takama and Mr Karate were badass in this game and Mai looked great.
Kof XIII Kim is his best version hands down and Mr.Karate being strong also made sense since they put alot of respect on AOF's name
Not a single mention of the best Kim's pants animation to date... This game refined and perfected the concept pants animation
I know the graphics almost bankrupted them, but at least it's ACTUALLY the prettiest fighting game ever.
This, KOF 98UM and KOF 2002UM... This is basically what KOF is all about... With some honoring mentions to KOF XI and the Nests Saga as a whole...
One thing I will always appreciate about Dark Ash is how silly he sounds whenever he throws his fireballs.
KOF13 is so nostalgic because it brought back all the classic stages from all games we loved from KOF94 up to that point including some of the Fatal Fury Special stages and those were some of the most amazing stages we always wanted to reach like Billy's stage in Special man
This game had the best version of Iori's Arashi no Saxophone theme
Never in my entire life of playing fighting games has the storyline of The Tales of Ash Saga having no business being that good.
The Steam Edition intro hits you right in the feels. Ash is one the best anti-hero in KOF.
Everything you said is correct.
So some story gap fills i personally heard were canonical:
So after Kyo and Shingo got injured by Iori before Ash stole his magatama the two got sent to a hospital but Kyo (not one to let a situation involving Chizuru and Iori slide) snuck out and eventually encountered some members from those from the past who gave him an invitation to THIS kof and joined Benimaru and Goro to get back at Ash hoping he'd be there.
Meanwhile Betty recruited Shen and Duo Lon cause they now had a common goal; bring Ash down cause Duo wants to know what Ash's true objective was and Shen was still mad about the whole Oswald thing in the previous game.
Iori (having lost his dark flames) developed his fight style to be able to combat without them, now it's never been explained why Vice and Mature appeared to him physically (my guess? Orochi's seal was still breaking during this time so maybe this influence coupled with nightmares i heard he's had over killing them may have been the cause) but they appeared and they agreed to help Iori get his magatama back to seal Oroch.
During all this the Ikari mercenaries were investigating those from the past, after Haidern got a call from Adelhied about his sister Rose hosting the next kof tournament without telling him he sent a recon team consisting of Mary, Ramon, Seth and Vanessa to where the kof arena would take place where they found out that those from the past were manipulating the tournament to further weaken Orochi's seal, which leads to those from the past's goal.
Saiki and his cult in the far off past fought humanity for dominance but lost, they found out about a mystical door of time that Saiki hopes to use to return to his original time and change things which lead to his cult somehow living immortally in secret till the time was right.
So basically this was not just tournament for money, it was a tournament to decide humanity's fate.
Kinda makes you appreciate the opening to this game a bit more.
Kinda wished Ash got to keep his fighting pose from 2003 and XI, made me like the character more. Which is weird to say an idle animation pose does a lot for characters in fighting games.
XIII is a master class in fighting games and its the result of all the years snk had worked on since 94'
Canonically, this is Ash at his strongest after stealing Chizuru's mirror & Iori's flames, so I think they wanted to give Ash a laid-back idle to emphasize how he's hardly even trying now. I prefer his old idle too, though
God I love Dark Ash's theme so much.
Yeah the theme really does a great job for a boss battle.
"You two can have your emotion reunion inside me!" Oh no.
"How's that for a happy ending?" *OH NO*
That combo at 7:13 matched the beat of the music 😂
This game is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite KOF. I really hope 15 ends up feeling like a combination of 13 and 14.
PS: it would be sick to eventually see a team those from the past with Makai Botan and Rimello or Shion.
Nah not the greatest, but its absolutley up there to be one of the greatest for sure.
The greatest goes to 02UM

I remember getting the demo/trial for this game and it sparking my interest in fighting games again. Even got me to interesting in MK again, jumping back in for the 9th game. Mk10 is the game where I decided to actually learn combos, before then I was like a lvl 10 button masher. Still kinda am as I mostly rely on muscle memory and get myself caught up in stupid stuff XD I learned pretty much just to abuse the reach and fastest hits
You think by now everybody would know that the King of Fighters tournament is always a front for some world-domination scheme
You know I think that I read once that it's canonical for it just be "part of the festivities" now.
My son is considered special ed.(autistic) And on top that he has a dexterity mucle control problem. I'm part of the fgc and been playing fighting games since I was 5..the best moment for me is he saw me doing trials in kof13. He asked if I could teach him. So I worked with him and he got his first combo 3rd try. He started playing fighting games with me. When we went back to the doctor he was dumbfounded by his motor control to the point where he said there was no major problem anymore and shouldn't worry about it as much. Even his cognitive ability went through the roof. Kof13 tekken7 and dbfz and 3rd strike literally help save my son alot if grief by giving him his dexterity back....we bond over the fgc and watching you max thanks for the content keep it up
This is amazing! Congratulations!! I've been thinking about this too as a musician-specifically a drummer. KOF really feels like learning an instrument. I've noticed my coordination on the drum set has significantly improved since diving into KOF and XIII's combo trials. They teach you in a fun way how to break down complex motor challenges, and that's a skill that's applicable to almost any task in day-to-day life.

today kof15 is not released yet, so i can say... this is the best kof ever
KOF 13 is a great game.KOF, in general, is great. I remember, during college, there was a bar in one other building of the college i did go, where, there was a bar, where, there was one arcade cabinet, and, its was KOF. i do remember playing a few times there, since, i dint go to that building that much.
To me this game is slighly above KOF 14 i really enjoyed playing it. And shut the fuck up for those getting angry at me saying i put it slightly above 14
That ending is fucking crazy. Ash erases himself and the only person who remembers him is Elisabeth whilst her teammates have no clear about what just happened.
This is the one that really got me to start investing serious time into KoF, and Ash is one of my favorite characters, so XIII is always gonna have a special place on my nostalgia shelf.
Max love playing 2003 and XI is because it gave him the MVC vibe
Even the mobile version of this game is epic. It plays so much like the console version that it isn't even a mobile version. More like a mobile port.
This game was amazing and the music was great
the only thing I find bad about KOFXIII is the longer combos. Because looking at the apex of KOF gameplay which is KOF2002/02UM, KOFXIII has many combo loops that for anyone who hates infinite combos, watching KOF XIII is pretty boring. 100% combos in KOF2002 usually don't have this constant repetition of hits (except in infinities, but that's a bug). And I think it's cool that KOF XV doesn't have this damage reduction to keep a loop longer than it should.
I don’t know. I enjoyed watching tournaments where people landed combos and TODs...there were definitely some tight gameplay moments for me even as a spectator.
Awesome video as always Btw, Rooflemonger has an excellent video showing how to do easier combo's with the button hold trick. Taught me a lot. 🤓
They just gave so much of a damn about this game it's ridiculous. Nearly went bankrupt probably trying to make that animation and those sprites. After decades of reusing neo geo graphics they just pulled out all the stops and it shows.
*Trivia*
The development of KOF XII and XIII was so rough that forced SNK Playmore to cancel many future projects, they spend a lot of money.
They cancelled *3 upcoming KOF Maximum Impact games!*
*KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT REGULATION A 2* for Arcades
*KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT 3* for PS3
*KOF MAXIMUM IMPACT XBOX 360*
The Maximum Impact games were a success.
Maximum Impact 2 being the best selling KOF game in the PS2.
*Falcoon* the producer of Maximum Impact Regulation A 2 said there was going to have 4 returning characters making their 3D debut.
Hotaru, Tizoc, Joe and Angel.
Plus some newcomers.
SNK Playmove even announced the game in public.
Showing the logo!
So yeah.
The reason why the story of the Maximum Impact ended in a cliffhanger was because of KOF XII and XIII 😢😭😭😭
You just broke my heart my dude. I was so ready to see where the KOFMI story was going. And considering how big an improvement MI 2 was over 1? MI 3 would have been dang good I bet.
@@mechanicat1934 Ikr?
It is such a tragedy 😢
I really liked the Maximum Impact games...
MI2 being my favorite.
Falcoon is now working for SNK again and has made some interviews.
He wants to do everything in his power to end the MI storyline.
I forgot about Ash's throw when he put your head towards his crutch.
This KoF always felt to me like the Garou: Mark of the Wolves sequel they never got to make as a King of Fighters game.

If they're old enough to crawl, they're old enough to Brawl.
I would certainly say this is the best non-Dream Match KoF for sure (since I see it as the Third Strike of this series), close second being KoF XI. It's just one of those precious masterpieces. 1998 UM and 2002 UM are the best Dream Match games so far.
I love this game. Wish it had rollback netcode. Also lack of characters like Yamazaki, Geese etc sucked. Everyone was fun to use though, made this game just great nonetheless.
Drive cancels and ex moves were the best additions to kof, really missing drive cancels.
The final ash I literally I always got sick on while playing. It's like the background mixed with that damned cursed grey cloud that follows him around always made me sick. N now watching this made me remember and got sick all over again.
Without a doubt one of the most beautiful 2-D fighting games ever. Absolute eye candy man. I remember buying it when it first came out, it came with like 4 soundtrack CD's with music from KOF 94 all the way to Xlll itself. One of my top 3 favorite games in the series, it might just be number one honestly, i bounce back and forth between this one an 2002 UM.
What so beautiful in overmuscled guys, disco pants and freaking fat people on every second stage?
@@Petronixman where did the game hurt you son point it out on this doll
@@Petronixman You have your opinion and i have mine. To me KOF 13 (and 12) look amazing.
@@aceattorneygeneral3922 Yea he seems to be butthurt about KOF 13 for some reason, lol.
Hello Orlanzo.
I have a love and hate relationship with KOF XIII
Love the visuals, sprites (which btw, weren't 100% hand made) and music BUT
I Hate the roster.
It is one of my least favorites.
It doesn't feel like part of the Ash Saga.
It feels like the Orochi Saga all over again.
I missed so many characters from 2003 and XI 😢
(Duck King, Malin, Momoko, Adelheid, Gai, Silber, Jenet, Oswald, etc)
The worst part is that...
The development of KOF XII and XIII was so expensive that forced SNK Playmore to cancelled the rest of the upcoming Maximum Impact games 😭😭😭
That's why we never got Maximum Impact 3 and Regulation A 2 (which btw, SNKP have announced it in public!)
Classic remastered I love it 💘 the combos are amazing 👏🏽
I feel like Terry would become like Shen if he's not humble like he is.
Kof 13: The game that pushed Shen from Unga to BUNGA.
KOF 12 could've in theory worked as a tech demo and 13 as it's final product. The only good thing it has going for it was the decent merchandise it had. (I still have my KOf 12 Mousepad that I use to this day.)
Not the greatest KOF while 98UM and 2002UM exist lol
KOFXIII has it's visuals going for it, but I could never adjust to the drive/hyperdrive mechanics and the roster is pretty poor compared to previous games
I'm glad people are still loving and appreciating it now after all these years though. Wish it got that when the game actually launched.
While both 98 UM and 2002 UM are godlike KOF, to be honest these released several years later from their original version. If somehow/someway SNK could do an XIII UM with the same system, art and concept of a dream match (all Ash saga characters playable) this would have been the greatest KOF ever. I agree with you for 98/2002 UM versions being the greatest KOF games, I think we have to compare XIII to the normal versions of 98 and 2002 which at least for me, XIII is better.
@@dhanocore Do you want SNK to go bankrupt again?
KOF XIII was so expensive to make and almost destroyed the company.
@@meganinten0078 That's why I said somehow/someway. Because I don't see it happening. I know that's the main reason they went to the bankrupt.
Anyone else think about how this game's story ending is just like Madoka Magica's? Even Elisabeth keeping Ash's hairband like Homura did with Madoka's ribbons.
Shen, Duo lon, Oswald in one team for kof xv? Yes please...
It’s unlikely, but I really hope Shen and Duo Lon come back in XV. Considering they’re doing team DLCs, I can’t think of anyone who would be a third to round it out, but I think they’d be good additions and I want to see them in the new style.
Edit: Put Kim in the team. I want Kim back. Don’t care if it doesn’t make sense
Well I’m sure you already know but Kim is actually coming back along with shingo. Also it looks like season 2 isn’t gonna have team focused dlc but rather single fighters one at a time
I never got to play this, and KOFXV looks pretty as hell, but man I can't help looking at this spritework and thinking we could have had it all.
This game feels, looks and plays incredibly, trully one of he best games in the genre, period
Legacy Skill sounds like a fighting game system feature. Like Dream Cancel, Max Mode etc.
