Thanks for your help. I have a 2016 Grand Cherokee. Couple of things noted however. The top piece does not have to be removed. The one you thought you broke. The filter cover came off without removing it. Second, before you clip the door back on, pull and attach the retracting cable as it is difficult to get to after you clip the door back on.
You did not insert the upper plastic plate back in correctly. Those two back clips don’t actually go into the two holes in the back like you thought. If you refer to the 1:00 mark of the video, you can see the two holes are open before you pull the tray out. I’m struggling to get the part back into my Jeep as well, but your clips are not broken like you say.
The manual book tray/shelf was not correctly in place to begin with and you didn’t re-install correctly. Also in the first part of the video, the air filter cover was not hinged in place like it should’ve been; it was just loose barely being held on by the latch. And when you put the filter cover back on, you didn’t secure the latch in the middle thereby causing the cover to bow out. That middle lip on top of the cover secures behind the little clip in the middle of the filter tray frame.

Delete this video, it’s all wrong, even the vehicle model… It’s not a Cherokee.
