Yeah and it was a pretty controversial for back then. Just think nowadays you probably wouldn't be able to get away with creating a film like this. Wonder if the freaks got a decent pay or if they did it voluntarily?
I watched this movie by myself at night when I was 22 while I was at my future husbands mobile home. He was working and when it was over I had to drive home to my parents’ house in the dark. It scared the heck out of me and I was afraid to drive home.
OK it's trippy enough seeing pre-fame Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Walken in the trailer. But then I looked it up on IMDB, and there's an even bigger secret cast: Jerry Orbach, Beverly D'angelo, Nana Visitor, Tom Berenger, and Richard Drefuss!
Got my Dad to take me to it at 13 in 1977. He hated it and even more hated that so much top acting talent was in it. Scared me to death but i loved it. So many great scenes, so many great characters, especially the two lesbians. Loved the weird way the dom lesbian talked.
I love that "Turn Around Alison!"What gets me are how many people are in this Ava Gardner is in this and Beverly D'Angelo doesn't speak at all..John Caradine, Burgess Meredith, Christopher Walken Jerry Orbach, Chris Sarandon. and Jeff Goldblum. Of course Cat with party hat.
I saw this when it first came out in the 1970s at the Norridge Theaters in Norridge, Illinois. At the time I didn't think it was that good but over the decades it really grows on you.
That's how it was for me with the original Amityville Horror. That movie scared the living daylights out of me. It was the music ...that horrific choir music in the beginning. I would go to bed at night and all I could hear playing over and over in my little head was that damn music! And someone telling me to GET OUT!!
got the remastered blu-ray and watched it again last night for the first time in probably about 30 years. So funny to watch some of the stars in it before they were "famous" Jeff Goldbum and Christopher Walken...soooo young. Loved it.
You know, it’s really terrible that the trailer spoils the fact that Burgess Meredith is evil. That was a bad decision. If someone sees the trailer first, they don’t get the experience of thinking he’s sweet and adorable before finding out he’s an evil ghost from hell.
I walk on the Promenade at lunchtime alot and always look up at the top floor window of the house. They took away all the ivy on the house; I think the house looks better without it. And lately I smell alot of reefer on the Promenade. This is a famous neighborhood; a few blocks away, George Washington and his men sailed from Brooklyn Heights in 1776 in the dead of night, across the East River to Manhattan, and llived to fight another day. Abe Lincoln walked on the Promenade and said it was one of the most beautiful sights he ever saw. And of course, Patty Duke lived there, as you here in the theme song.

I agree. I’m 57 and saw this some time in childhood and still think of it, with terror, time and again, like tonight after I moved into a condo a month ago. The lady who owned it before me lived to 105 and was here for almost four decades. Tonight, I was walking my dog on the grounds, and a neighbor was staring at me from an upstairs window. Boldly staring. She drew the shades and stood there with her hands on her hips STARING. As I moved, she moved, room to room, staring. As I walked back towards my place she came downstairs to her front door and was peering around the corner. I was PISSED and swearing under my breath. Shortly thereafter, an email appeared in my Inbox from the HOA introducing me as a new owner with a “WHITE DOG.” So I knew this gawking woman called or something to “report” me trespassing by walking my dog, to which the HOA straightened it out tactfully with an introductory message inviting the community to welcome me and say hi. I'd like to see this just for the cast. Wallach, Walken, Goldblum, Gardner, Carradine, etc., and of course Burgess Meredith reprising his creepy old guy role from Burnt Offerings (1976). And Cristina Raines, ooo la la. It's a shame it never gets played any on cable... it must be truly awful to not get any airtime despite such an ensemble cast.

I just watched The Sentinel again the other night and was once again deeply, deeply haunted by the dark atmosphere of this film. That aside, The Sentinel is one of the most interesting horror films of the 1970's, with a big cast (of up-and-comers and screen veterans). Sure, it's not the caliber and quality of The Exorcist or Rosemary's Baby ... but it is the next best thing. I enjoy this flick, as well as 70s spook-shows like Burnt Offerings (there's Burgess Meredith again), Let's Scare Jessica to Death, The Other, Tourist Trap, Don't Look Now, The Legend of Hell House, The Legacy.
The Sentinel is a 1977 American supernatural horror film directed by Michael Winner, and starring Cristina Raines, Chris Sarandon, Ava Gardner, Burgess Meredith, Sylvia Miles and Eli Wallach. It also features Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, John Carradine, Jerry Orbach, Tom Berenger, Nana Visitor, Deborah Raffin and Beverly D'Angelo in supporting roles. The plot focuses on a young model who moves into a historic Brooklyn brownstone that has been sectioned into apartments, only to find that the building is owned by the Catholic diocese and is a gateway to Hell. It is based on the 1974 novel of the same name by Jeffrey Konvitz, who also co-wrote the screenplay with director Winner.
I was just describing this movie to a friends and told them it's got the same 'feel' as Rosemarys Baby. Of course, nothing beats RB is this genre. But The Sentinel is pretty good and it seems like it kind of slipped between the cracks...Not many people, who I think would really enjoy it, have seen or heard of it.
Wow, I can still remember going to the video rental store where it was nearly all VHS tapes, but they had a small Betamax section. The only VHS tapes you could BUY were old rental tapes and they cost around £70. That must have been around 1982.

Magnífica película ojalá puedan subirla completamente gracias por compartir bendiciones ❤❤❤
Cuando el cine daba miedo! Excelente!
Beverly D'Angelo wasn't mentioned
Watched this years ago at the movies borrowed a lot.from Rosemarys baby overall.a good horror
Melhor filme de terror que já vi ,único que pregou medo...
I love this Movie!!!1 I use to have the "Betamax" tape. lol!
Wow, I can still remember going to the video rental store where it was nearly all VHS tapes, but they had a small Betamax section. The only VHS tapes you could BUY were old rental tapes and they cost around £70. That must have been around 1982.
