On the A.I. thing as an anecdote:
So the stereotypical AI face/cartoon girl model was trained on a particular artist. Their whole portfolio ripped and scanned without permission.
They posted their art on some of the TTRPG art subreddits I follow and kept getting attacked for it being A.I. because of the style.
During the process of the big fight, where even the mods got divided, it came out that the artist now streams their art process because they have to prove that it wasn't generated and has to include the streams as part of their portfolio and in contract work. They have to show industry clients, in real time, that they are doing what the industry contracted them to do.

With regards to the billing changes... the removal of the à la carte, the needing to call for an applied refund, and the old order history not being accessible (which was not mentioned in the video). I bet that this is the result of a (probably massive) change of the under the hood billing and ordering service. I'm betting that the new service either doesn't have the capacity or will need additional code work to allow the à la carte billing. Keeping track of that kind of partial purchase is pretty complex and not all billing systems can handle it. Or, if they can handle it, WOTC needs to do some adjustments on their side to adapt to the new billing service.

They went from getting some of my money, to none of it. On three separate occasions in the last week I've wanted to buy individual items from books I did not own, but as someone who runs a completely homebrew setting and campaign there is no way I'm buying like $120 worth of books just for a few items here, a couple classes there, and a race. I just can't justify that. The a la carte purchasing meant that so many more people could get into D&D and now it has been reduced to only those who can shell out money for the whole book even if they want a small part of it, and that's what leads to piracy. If I weren't mid-campaign right now I'd be going over to Pathfinder easily, since all of their content is just out there for you to use. Whoever made this decision has no idea what they're doing.

The funny thing about machine learning generated text, is that at this point obvious mistakes are more likely to indicate that a person wrote something than a machine. Typically things like ChatGPT make logical errors or produce inconsistent details, but will usually have impeccable grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Usually what clues you in is that in is that the writing is perfect, but the content is repetitive or feels sort of meaningless. In a way, it's uncanny valley but for writing - it's a little too perfect, and feels lifeless.

i think the a la carte purchase removal was tactical: people can use the homebrew system to replicate specific content, thus eliminating much of the impetus to purchase full books for desired content, which leads to WotC revenue falling, which then can then be blamed on the Homebrew functionality of D&D Beyond, which then allows them to justify nuking Homebrew, thus making D&DBeyond even less appealing and driving away users. Why? The CEO has stated he wants to destroy D&DBeyond and this is a clear trajectory towards that end. I'm saving copies of all my homebrew content in advance of this possibility.

I found out about a la carte purchasing last night when I went to buy some subclasses and races and realized I couldn’t. I don’t have the means to buy expensive digital books I have no use for, but I can throw a few bucks to grab a couple of a la carte pieces I need. This basically means that I just can’t buy things as I need them, and that really sucks! And them making us reach out to customer service to get our discount on things we’ve bought in part before? That reeks of them hoping that people just won’t bother and will pay for the same thing twice, multiple times, just so that they don’t have to hassle with reaching out to customer service again and again and again.

The options to buy individual items was nice but I rarely used it a few of the times I did was when they made a individual item that you would need to buy individually (ie one grund above, tortle package, domains of delight) but later they rolled those into other books. There is good and bad with all of this the bad is it again makes it required to have the latest thing you need to buy a whole book but it will be better or the market as a whole because you don't see any other 5e publishers allowing ala carte of their products and WoTC is not about to make it so they have a lower profit on their developed materials than another publishers with the addition of several publishers to DDB I think it was going to be a matter of time before ala carte was going to be removed and it will be for the best going forward to allow more and more publishers to access the market that has been growing in DDB.

I don't know. I myself, for one, cannot believe that people can't see the difference between human generated art and A.I. generated art. Maybe it's because I was born in the late 1980's and therefore able to notice the differences between reality and fantasy/digital. They don't call us millennials "The Digital Natives" for nothing. Our senses are attuned to such things while keeping one foot firmly planted in reality.
Sure, someone might be able to draw in the same manner or style as A.I. But that doesn't make it A.I. generated because artists have always taken inspiration wherever they can get it. There are still tells that give it away as human generated art even though it uses the same style. On a different note. Still allowing purchases of physical books is a good thing.
And also making the SRD 5.2 copyrighted under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 is a good move. It's what's best moving forward and if they hold to these promises I might return to D&D 5E come February of the upcoming year. But if they ever try a stunt like that again, such as they did two times already with 4E or the OGL, I will be gone for good to never look back. 4E was strike one, the OGL was strike two, so don't make me question you a third time is all I have to say on the matter. Grant it 4E did have a lot of good things.
Such as what we seen ported over to 5E from it even though a lot of it was just renamed to something different. A former designer of the game that's no longer with WoTC, one who was let go as of last December, said they couldn't figure out how people wouldn't accept what was in 4E but then turned around and accepted it in 5E. Here's my explanation. 4E was not D&D, not even remotely close to it, and again I say it felt way to close to home as a video game which limited its capabilities. And moreover, nobody then and nobody now, wants to go completely digital.
We millennials are the largest generation on this earth now, and we see something like a pdf as a useful resource when in need of it and also as a backup if something were to happen to our physical copy of which we would soon replace if something did happen to it, but everything going completely digital should not be the future and therefore has nothing to do with nostalgia when wanting and needing to have physical copies. Still to this day, you may see me do something like some research on the internet but not all and primarily through books, but rather than using a word processor I instead write notes and whatever else in composition journals and binders. As I said earlier, one foot firmly planted in reality, while the other is firmly planted in the digital world. And we know the difference and understand the balance that needs to be had between the two. And again, as I said before, this has nothing to do with nostalgia. It's about balance, and the ability to leverage your power as a consumer of the product, and more.
And as for the final, and least pressing matter here to me, D&D Beyond. Maybe now people will realize and understand what we millennials have been warning you about this entire time. If you go completely digital you will then coincidentally loose all control over everything. See how they just made those changes on the website and how quite a few of you out there are not happy about a la carte? Yeah, this is exactly what we have been saying this entire time and if you allow them to go completely digital and you continue to become completely reliant on it, they will continue to push for absolute control over how you purchase and what you purchase and where you play and how you play.
