This was the Million-Dollar shot....literally AND figuratively. At the :20 mark and still needing three words, my thought was they would not make it. Especially when Dan and Laureen only had about 2 seconds to guess the final word. And as 1 second ticked off to tenths of a second, Dan said "Soothsayer" with one letter revealed and BAM! Millionaires. 9 couples would win the $1M in the 1 1/2 years this show was on the air, and this was the most heart-pounding and most dramatic by a mile.
Soothsayer was their lucky word, because Dan had that one in mind ahead of time! Sometimes when they guess an answer at the million dollar round, they just brainstorm. He brainstormed "Soothsayer," on that last one, which just luckily happened to be it that time! Of all nine winning couples, I believe Dan and Laureen here came the closest to not doing it!
You can hear them talking about answers that might come up and Laureen mentions soothsayer. What amazing luck that it was the last word and Dan had enough time to say it.
In March of 1984, there was a PYL episode (shared on Michael Tiller’s GST Archives channel by the way) featuring Geralyn Gormley, whom I’m pretty certain appeared in a season one episode of this show, but I don’t think it’s a known episode yet, meaning I don’t think any game show fans who have it have yet joined the trading community.
She's got a Facebook? Maybe someone can interview her about what it's like having parents who won $1,000,000 12 years before Who Wants to Be a Millionaire even existed.
Brian, it says on Michael Tiller's list of past traders that you were the one to help with the majority of his trades. Now even if YOU don't have his copy of Donald/Kathi vs. Phillip/Barbara, do you know anyone else who does? I'm trying to learn patience when it comes to waiting for a response to my comments, but I only recently created an account to post comments on RUclips, just a little over a day after Michael's tragic death. And he still had a good many episodes of this show left in his collection that never went up. Several I was looking forward to because either A, they were on his first channel and/or his second one, or B, because they were episodes I'd never seen available before. (Those I'm maintaining faith will be uploaded somewhere else.) And once again, the copy is very watchable despite hefty tracking faults and has no commercials. And one more thing, I want to thank you for the episodes you've already shared!
Okay, I guess Brian is very busy right now, but ever since I established an account to post comments on RUclips right after Michael Tiller's death, he has not responded to a single one of my comments, not a single one. Does anyone on this sight have any possible idea as to why that is?
And on WAVE 3 in Louisville every weeknight at 7:30pm right after NBC Nightly News W/Tom Brokaw and preceding NBC’s Primetime Lineup (WAVE 3 also carried Saturday Morning shows over the years, notably cartoons like The Smurfs and Tree Fu Tom and 🤼♂️ shows like WWF Saturday Night's Main Event and CWA/USWA 🤼♂️, as well as the Allen Funt-hosted 70's version of Candid 🎥).
IKR? She got robbed by the stinger. I still felt kinda bad knowing that happened, even though it was the other team most people were likely to be rooting for.
Noise and distraction. You see, they need to be able to focus on the screen, and any possible applause and cheering from the audience getting to their ears could take away their focus, thus hurting their chances of getting all 6 items in 60 seconds. This game can be pretty easy when you're viewing it from home, but if you're actually there and playing, it's a different matter. The one thing they can still hear, of course, is Jim Lange's voice.
Jim Lange did a great job in hosting this game show!!!
OMG, talk about a close one!
He got Soothsayer just right at the buzzer!
Just like in basketball!
I don't even know how that's possible.

17:06 "People who predict?"
"Like astrologers and soothsayers?"
He had soothsayer in his head after guessing it with five seconds to go, so they were very fortunate that was the last word!

This game show was also aired and very popular in the philippines in the late 80s
Oo naman yes
Very true, we watch it sa RPN9 pa before mga 90s haha
GMA 7 (2000-2007)
Brian titled this episode very appropriately!
good job laureen & dan you guys have won $1,000,000 congratulations you did it
Long before Regis was giving away a million.
Then later Meredith. (Vieira, I mean.)
there gonna have to put this game show on the buzzer
Needs permission from Warner Bros. since they own Lorimar/Telepictures. Same with "Perfect Match" with Bob Goen.
You can hear them talking about answers that might come up and Laureen mentions soothsayer. What amazing luck that it was the last word and Dan had enough time to say it.
He was saying soothsayer even before the they went to the booth and it ended up being a Hail Mary At literally the last second. Poetic Justice indeed.
Laureen was on PYL in November 1984

Actually Marissa Crisafulli (the baby girl) has several videos on RUclips. She looks like a million bucks.
13:47-13:57, "Stay tuned as Dan and Laureen take the final step towards 📺's biggest prize: $1,000,000!"-Johnny Gilbert.
In the early episodes it was Johnny Gilbert. But here, it was Jim Lange himself!
@@PGTransformed It should be the $1,000,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime!
@@SaleGuy Hey, it's you! You have Jay & Judy's winning episode on your channel!
@@PGTransformed Season 1 vs. Season 2!
19:08 how did he get that answer at the last second?
+Ben Campbell soothsayer
+video fan I was wondering if it just came to him. he got the answer quick.

Play the category. You're allowed as many guesses as you want. It's a good strategy, especially if your spouse is focusing on the puzzle itself.
He guessed soothsayer for the word right before it, time was almost up, he saw an O up there, might as well give it a shot
It's Was The Stinger That Got Ya
That's at the 11:33 mark.
The baby girl has to be about 30 now.
Her name's Marissa, actually.
She's on Facebook. Very pretty.
She's got a Facebook? Maybe someone can interview her about what it's like having parents who won $1,000,000 12 years before Who Wants to Be a Millionaire even existed.
Laureen is on Facebook too

I really liked this game show. It reminds me of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire with Regis Phillman

whats the point of the booth?
5:37 He meant their third day.
11:33 - STINGER!
Who owns the rights to this game show? This could air on BUZZR or Game Show Network.
Randy Runnels Warner Bros.
Lorimar was bought by Warner Bros in '93 while Telepictures still exists today
@@animemangafan1987 Really? I thought that happened in '89.
What did the judge say after review buzzer beater call stands or call reversed
I heard Dan say SoothSayer before the clock hit :00.0. It is a buzzer beater if ever there was one.
The $1 Million Dollar Chance Of A Lifetime is aired on RPN 9 in late 80's.

TOMDCOAL is aired on Channel 9 in late 80's and 90's
Also Reaired in the early 2000s , 10's and 20's
Funny how both of the first two puzzles were solved with only four letters.
Laureen is a very unique yet pretty name. Kind of a cross between Lauren and Maureen.
Ouch!
Vivaldo DaSilva is from Brazil.
By my count won with 0.7 left
larke tanner

the won a 1,000,000 fined
By the way, is this the same Marissa who's the baby girl in the episode? The one whose parents won big?

People Who Predict: that category was a killer!
Not to mention two of the items were eleven letters long. Handicapper and clairvoyant.
The mistake Peggy made in round 3 proved to be fatal. OUCH.
IKR? She got robbed by the stinger. I still felt kinda bad knowing that happened, even though it was the other team most people were likely to be rooting for.
It's difficult if you celebrate by swinging your wife around lolz!!!!
Add the price is right sirens
+Anthony Cipriano yup and the NBC sirens or the alarm bells used on The Big Spin
Nah... I think the sirens from Fun House and Supermarket Sweep are enough. :D
Combine the sirens from Fun House and the Price is Right.
Do not ruin a perfectly good game show with your Goodson-Todman crap.
What's the point of sticking them in an "isolation booth"? What are they getting isolated from?
+deztroyer76 probably so they couldn't hear in the event an audience member shouted out answers.
Makes sense to me!
Why, the noxious fumes of Lorimar Studios, of course!
For less distraction while playing the bonus game. The only person they can hear in there is Jim.

With seven tenths of a second left...talk about cutting it extremely close..
They knew that "soothsayer" was likely to be an answer. Just kept blurting it out.
And that's how you win a game show.
