I've sat in a lot of lodges and these were the first songs I learned, I still have a special place in my heart for them. When I hear them sung in a good way for good reasons it reminds me of the sacred matootsan and all the healing and blessings that I have been lucky enough to have been blessed with. I struggle with drug addiction. I am homeless and I was part of the 60's scoop but I am hopeful because of the sacred ceremonies our ancestors left us. I believe these songs are sung in a good way and that before anyone posts a negative comment about the way they're singing that they should look at the reasons why they feel the need to talk disparagingly about someone elses songs. Maybe you should go into the lodge and ask the grandfathers what they think about this. Chuh! Have a blessed day relatives and say a prayer for my sister if you want to , she's going to have a baby any day. Aho!

Prayers, brother. Hope your sister had a healthy baby. Hope you conquer this demon of addiction. It once afflicted me as well. Praise great spirit yeshua for strengthening me to overcome it. God bless you

I pray and hope that you are doing well , and that all good things are coming your way...Keep on being the strong person you really are, and keep doing the Ceremonies, and I am sure you will have a Good Life...I too, suffered from the same kind of problems of being "homeless" in my own Sacred Land, and addicted" to alcohol....and addicted to anger too, and had a lot of resentments, etc , Sweat Lodges got me better, cured me of all my problems...."Addiction" ...of ANY kind, is a very tricky thing to get rid of, since it something we become immersed in, like drowning in deep water, we get used to it, way too used to it, so that we "think" it is a "part" of us, when it is really not...it is OUTSIDE of us.....Cleaning up the "diet" is very important too, eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies whenever you can, you can grow your own bean and alfalfa sprouts too, in a glass jar, wherever you are, so it's not expensive and easy to do....and NO junk foods of ANY kind....and AVOID sugar too, as it feeds the addition process..just avoid all that shit like it is poison....(cause it IS)...Only take into your body that which is life sustaining.....nothing that is destructive in any way.....Grandfather has given us all we need to survive here , if we are mindful of it.... AND NO WHITE BREAD either...("fry bread" ....so popular at Pow Wows etc.....is the WORST SHIT ON THE PLANET)......as it creates a serious , life-threatening sugar imbalance in the blood, feeding the addictions even more..... .....It can take 30 years, to get rid of addictions, or it may take ONLY 1 hour, depending on your situation in Life.....Myself, I experienced a miraculous transformation in my entire Being in a Sweat Lodge...and after, the Sacred Pipe Ceremony.... (run by traditional Lakota Sun Dancers....real HOT) so ALL the anger and violence I felt towards my "family", that I carried deep inside of me for over 37 yrs.... from all the years of suffering i endured, which was literally killing me in every way, VANISHED ... just left me and I cried a river of tears of extreme gratefulness, from that......as I became truly humbled beyond all possible realms of my wildest imagination, ...so that I emerged from the Sweat Lodge, as a totally re-newed Human Being .......a "brand new baby"......re-born...and it changed my outlook on Life forever...Forgiveness is the BIG KEY .it is the "open door"...that leads directly to the Spirit World..........and may be a hard thing to do, especially to forgive yourself for ALL the things you want to blame yourself for, all the guilt etc......regrets, etc...DON'T LET "THE PAST" DRAG YOU DOWN NOW...as each new Sunrise brings with it a New Day, a New Life , another "chance" to get it right...and not make the same repeated mistakes over and over and over again....Now, as I just turned 59 , and with cancer, I am getting ready for my second half of my Life, my Journey in Life, (as I may just have another 50 yrs to go yet (?)) and my final Journey to the Spirit World, which now I can face with an open and loving and humble Heart, ....and I know I would not have been able to do this without the Sacred Ceremonies to rescue me.......btw ...I am a "white guy" too....so trying to understand and being a part of the Native Ceremonies was not easy for me to do...I started learning back in the 80's...I feel like the Native People have such a beautiful Way of Life, and so , that is the Way I chose to live, FOREVER.... and it will carry me right through to the very last breath I breathe on this beautiful Mother Earth......Sending LOVE AND RESPECT with all my Heart to you, my brother...Wishing you well......
      .MITAKUYE O'YASIN...

Beautifully said. I too struggled with addiction, as my dad and grandmother did. Although they didn't make it out of the addiction- I have three and half years sobriety and it all started with the first sweat ceremony I went to at Round Lake Treatment Center. This is also where I learned about the Residential Schools and what my father went threw when he went to them. This is where I started to heal my shame for being a beautiful dark skinned woman. Sending prayers Caleb, as you walk the red road with the help of your ancestors. Please keep sharing your beautiful words- Thank you for showing us your spirit, in spite the power of the spirit of addiction. Aho, this is why we have survived for so many years- our spirits are strong.

attended many Sundance and sweats, had our own family sweat lodge (inipi). we were fortunate to have received a tape of the songs from the medicine man and leader of our state Indian
Sundance and healing round house. we learned the songs but also found the words in a english/Lakota dictionary . one of my favorite songs is the pipe song that sounds like a lullaby. all
so beautiful. funny thing though that happened in our family lodge: we were singing prayer songs and had a few Lakota and Navajo w/us. all of a sudden the rocks started to sing, sounded like an old woman. we 'pale face' were so happy that the spirit had found a welcoming lodge but the natives RUSHED OUT of the inipi.....

@@marcowilliams5721 so cool ... and so beautiful....I always cry a stream of tears when I hear these songs still...and I am 59 yrs old ...so I guess I am learning now in this late stage of my life, as I get ready for my Spirit World Journey, what it is to be "a Warrior"....I don't like to cry, really, but I just can't help it now, too many memories of the Ceremonies I attended in my life, in the USA...which changed my entire life forever always flood my eyes with tears...Tears of gratefulness, of humility... giving THANKS..WOPILA.... for all the Blessings I received....mixed with tears of sorrow....thinking of all the people not able to go to these Sacred Ceremonies, before going into the Spirit World.... especially my own loved one, my wife, Astra, who was not able to attend the Ceremonies, being too sick to go, dying of cancer.....She DID get to go after she passed into the Spirit World though, which brought me a great deal of comfort...I know she was inside the Sweat Lodge with us, as we did a special Inipi one month after after she passed away , for her, (and for me)......run by a beautiful old Sun Dancer friend of mine, Felipe...I know she was there, because we felt her touch us , physically , she touched us .....touched and rubbed our skin, with her "hands" in a loving way, ...to let us know she was there inside the Lodge with us.... I will NEVER FORGET that...the feeling of being physically touched by her Spirit....talk about crying a river of tears.........man...I know for SURE the Spirit World is right here on Earth...not somewhere way out in space someplace...When we "die" we don't really "die" at all...we stay right here.....on this beautiful Earth...our only home......Spirits who have gone on, are still here, to be with us , to watch over us, to protect us...THIS IS WHAT I LEARNED.....I KNOW IT IS TRUE......

Pilamaya, so greatful for your singing and for keeping all that the whole way. No words for all that comes with walking that red way, keeping it simple and follow the ancient ways to walk deeply connected towards new times of healing and walking together as human family. Went out eventually and just started walking around the place and just wanted to bathe in the ocean like a crazy person, and did so, felt like a jelly fish, dough, and actually thinking of crucifiction and thunder, moonic.

Very often lyrics are non existant, often it's only that melody that leads their singing.
I am not familiar if this one in particular has lyrics or not.
      Best regards for Greece!

Please understand. This are not Lakota singers. Some words are not sung correctly. Some mispronunciations. Whoever posted this shouldn’t have posted this. I wouldn’t have this people sing in my ceremonies. Nothing personal! I have a lot of respect for this sacred songs and should be sung in a good way and correctly.

And its hard to blame you all, how would you know whats legit? Be careful. Its totally understandable you want to connect, your spirit cant help otherwise. Maybe pray to tunkasila ask for good teachers to come your way. Leave the Lakota songs to be recorded by Lakota. Aho

Not sure where you guys learned these songs, but your singing on top of the drum leaves the songs feeling flat and lifeless. Doesn’t sound authentic if ya ask me. Just my opinion. Def not how my elders have taught me. Might wanna rethink how you’re representing yourselves

    • @thegreatallanu

You are generalizating all tribes as one when they're not. Just because you're tribe is different doesnt mean that all tribes are the same as yours. All songs are different, are sung different as well. Just because you think its lifeless doesn't mean anything, maybe you're the one who lacks life.
