    Enjoying your videos. As a 48 year old man who has only ever raced off road hare scrambles and now wanting to get into vet or "over the hill" MX racing this is good but I also know it is a completely different discipline. Much to learn in this new venture of racing for me.

    Terry from Christchurch New Zealand, just thought it would be good to give a big ups to your student for his persistence and commitment. Jumping can be intimidating especially while learning new techniques with a coach present. Good job mate, flow will follow. Good to see more of this content getting out there as i constantly get asked from kids and beginner riders how too. I've use utube as there first go too but its hard to get consistent in-depth content to recommend. You are the go 2 chanel i recommend now rather than having to have them do multiple sclerosis. Keep up the good work

    You're a great instructor. Well done. As a former Cali native I completely agree with your comment about the grip comparison between what you had this day as compared to most tracks in Cali. People out here in the east have no idea how good they have it for soil conditions.

    In order to break faster he neede to land with his front wheel first but that is possible only after You are absolutely confident with triple. To practice it You can first do some jumps off the track and then do some jumps on the absolute inside line where You have much longer distance to stop the bike. When You can do it without problem You can start doing that on the regular line.

      @@AjCatanzaro Very cool to get a response from you. I was rewatching the video, cause I wanted to share it with my 11 year old son, and the notification popped up. My son said, "Someone sent you a message." I looked closely and saw that it was you, and I said, "It's a message from the teacher in this video." It was interesting watching you find a solution to the landing, braking, and then the turning issues. That downshift in the air was a lightbulb moment for me. Makes so much sense.

    Seeing him jumping that triple and managing a corner at the end was awesome! Love watching your videos. Can't wait for the next one :) Regarding topic of the video. I had (sometimes still have) the exact same problem. Braking right after a jump was always a problem for me. I found out that lifting my right foot slightly mid air and maybe putting it a bit foward on the peg helps me out a lot. Although I think that it helps me more mentally than physically. I feel more prepared on the braking that the next obstacle doesn't seem so intimidating and everything seems easier.

  • @edwinlomonacofoolsend
    @edwinlomonacofoolsend 5 лет назад

    He's also not leaning back into the attack position under braking. All his weight is forward on the bike while in the braking zone. Which adding to his instability while braking. If you watch AJ you can clearly see he's in the attack position while braking and only switching forward cockpit at the apex of the turn. It's literally what AJ is doing. This is really cool though. Like AJ states........people underestimate how much has to happen in a very short amount of time to execute a section like that. I would add that people GROSSLY underestimate all that goes into executing a section like that one. It's far more difficult than it looks. And that is a simplified version. There are similar sections that require mid air shifting and brake tapping. The give less time to adjust to proper bike position. And then require shifting out of the turn. This is why I have so much respect for pro riders. This is NOT something you learn over night. It's simply too dangerous. You can't go out there and just wing it.

    • @AjCatanzaro
      @AjCatanzaro  5 лет назад +2

      Even at 26 I think a bit more about doing some jumps. For myself I find that the second guessing only makes the situation more dangerous, because with this being my job and all I don’t exactly have the option to just not do a jump... lol. So I miss the days of 16-18 years old where I never thought twice.

    when I did inline speed skating, one of the roller derby girls who was training with the speed team at the time, told me the most valuable thing I've heard for not just skating, but for action sports as well: "If you're not falling, you're not trying"

      so my two pieces of advice for anyone who wants to get into action sports like BMX, Aggressive skating, scooter, skateboard, ect. are: "Go fast and commit" and "If you're not falling, you're not trying."

    Any tips for chasing/over jumping? Or just land one wheel first with full trothel and brase (but staying loose)?

    • @AjCatanzaro
      @AjCatanzaro  4 года назад +2

      Almost always want to land both wheels at the same time, or sometimes it’s more safe to case something with your front tire first depending on the jump. Every scenario is a little different

      @niklassvensson9119 4 года назад

      Thinking mostly about bigger jumps around 50-60 feet and landing flatt or a bitt short. Understand the differens on tabels and dubbel/trippel or steep/round landings.

    • @AjCatanzaro
      @AjCatanzaro  5 лет назад +1

      I would say that it happens simultaneously. But remember, not every turn that you sit down in do you need to put your foot out. In many situations you can just leave both feet on the pegs

  • @tynce563
    @tynce563 4 года назад

    I’d be scared to hit that triple too. That berm comes so fast after, I’d probably do the same thing. (Where he cased it the same way 3 times) more speed would be intimidating to me.

  • @sciolifilms

    So in this case, since that turn is so close to the landing, would you use both your front brake and rear brake to get a good entrance and exit out of the turn?

  • @VariteZ
    @VariteZ 5 лет назад +1

    Why do I sometimes land with both tires and then sometimes I land with my back tire first or my nose hits first and is a super sketchy jump. I feel like my throttle is steady but not sure if that’s the problem

    • @AjCatanzaro
      @AjCatanzaro  5 лет назад +1

      Could be a body position issue going up the face of jump. Also, remember that if you’re getting to the downside of a landing that level is no longer “level”. In the air when you recognize that you’re going to land smoothly on the downside you need to make the adjustment to get your front end down by either shifting your upper body forward or by tapping the rear brake

  • @MrXiztence

    Hey AJ we have a section at one of my local tracks where there is a long straight with a steep jump that lands right into a turn. I’m sorta weary jumping it and usually case it on purpose. What would the correct way of nailing it be? Shift down to third in the air before landing? It feels like there is no room to brake at all but it could be the fear talking :]

      When do you move your foot from the balls of the feet to shift and brake? Where should your knees be when sitting for a corner?
