  • Here's how to pair the GoPro Smart Remote with the GoPro HERO4 camera. The process is the same with both Silver and Black Edition cameras.
There is 2 possible ways to go about it:
    1) If the smart remote has not been previously paired with a camera before (first time use) it will automatically begin pairing when turned on.
    2) For pairing with a previously paired remote (basically anytime after the first time).
Once paired the GoPro Smart remote allows you to control your GoPro HERO4 camera:
You can start/stop recording, operate Hi-Light Tag and change all modes and settings in both the setup menu and in settings.
    Thank you for watching.

I'm kinda new to the whole GoPro thing getting my 1st Hero 4 Silver about a month ago. So far I love it. Mainly use it for capturing my band during gigs. I actually just got a 2nd Hero 4 Silver and the smart remote. Used your video here to figure out how to sync the remote to the cameras - was real simple and easy to follow - thank you

Very informative video mate. Just bought my GoPro Hero4 Silver edition 2 days ago, and a Sony HDR-AZ1 mini and i tell you...its a tough decision to lean on either side cuz each camera have their own tweeks and perks! I give GoPro lots of props for being the first ones to come on the market with such versatile camera and now to see all the major brands out there copy its style does make me feel proud for owning one. The Sony isn't bad tho...better night shots than the GoPro that's for sure, but I'm sure that on the next generation GoPro will improve their night shot capabilities. Its also annoying to go thru this undecisive phase on which camera to favor more like choosing a soccer or any other sports team lol. You would normally pick a team and stick to it. Same goes for me with these cameras. But I've always wanted to get a GoPro so when i was at BestBuy ready to purchase it, next to it was the Sony and i was like...huh! Look at this one over here!! So it stoled my interest and bought the Sony instead of a second GoPro. I needed 2 cameras for my RUclips channel. And now I'm stuck on which camera to favor! I hate this. Ima use both for a while and pretty sure one will be declared the winner. I just hate to have met a good competitor such as the Sony. I like the looks of the camera and that its splash proof unlike the GoPro. So in my mind I'm weighting the pros and cons of both and boy o boy its a battle out there. I just hope that i'll end up liking the GoPro more cuz i always wanted one. You know, when something that has been out there for a while and everyone is going for the same thing, you want to be a lil different and go with something else! So that's why i bought the Sony. Otherwise, i wouldn't even had looked at it if Sony was out with its camera about the same time GoPro was cuz i was tired of Sony. You know, Sony this and Sony that. Everything was Sony back in the day. That's the effect something has on me when its been out for a while and everybody goes for it. I tend to switch to something new on the market cuz i want to be different. So this is the overwhelming feeling i have over GoPro. Everybody recognizes it (cuz its damn good) and everybody wants one. And now seeing this, i tended to go for the Sony. So in the end, i hope i run out of this feeling and go for the GoPro cuz they are on their own on the market. GoPro never made anything else, they are unique and i'm down to "join the GoPro movement" as they say!!! By the way...How much for that remote buddy and where can i find the best price? Thank You!!!

Wanted to ask you if I may, the remote that you are using here in the video, is this the NEWER smart remote, cause the remote that I have now, does not have the settings (wrench) button on it, it just has the Mode and the red button, only asking because I heard that the new smart remote has a much BIGGER battery capiticy than the wi-fi remote that I currently have now......one ore thing if I may, since my remote doesnt have the settings wrench button on it, when I am recording with mine, how do I do a Highlight tag? Thanks......

very well presented video instructions! I have learned a lot from your channel since I bought my first GoPro. Regarding the usage of Smart Remote I have observed something. In a quite room (1) I recorded video by pressing the record button on the camera (2) recorded video by pressing the record button on the Smart Remote. The video recorded using the Smart Remote produced rustling sound. The one without the remote, the audio was clean (without any rustling sound). Could you do the same test and verify my observation. Thank you!

I have 3 HERO 4 Black GoPros and just purchased the ARMTE-002 remote. I tried pairing it with my cameras this morning and it appears it will not pair with one of them. All of the cameras are running V03.00 software to be compatible with my 3DR SOLO Quadcopter. I tried using my android app and discovered it will not connect or pair with the camera either. It has been working perfectly with this camera as late as this past January. The blue WiFi indicator appears to be working as it should and I get the double arrows on screen on both the camera and remote but they fail to pair. I checked the camera and it is recording fine. Any suggestions anyone ?

My remote doesn't look like this (only has power and mode, no settings) and won't pair with the camera. it was sold as a bundle. I'm pretty disappointed with this. I have wi-fi turned on, set it to pair with an RC and they both appear to be attempting to pair but no check box. Mine is a Hero4 Silver.

      +scotchandfolk
      No worries.
If you leave Wi-Fi ON when the camera is turned OFF, it will run down the battery in around 12 hours, so it doesn't matter too much. A great idea is to have an external source of power, like a Power Bank OR USB cable plugged into a Wall charger. That way you don't have to worry at all.

      Hi Alice. I always suggest:
      1) Delete and re-install the APP.
      2) Update or Reflash the firmware in your camera
      3) Try again.
If that fails, contact GoPro support.

Hi Brynmag, i'm having troubles with my smart remote and Gopro hero 4 silver, i can pair the remote with the camera, shows me the screen in the remote perfectly , but stays connected 30 secs max! then i can't connect it anymore, sometimes, almost always pairing the gopro app , the camera doesn't show me the pair pin number, after a couple of hours maybe yes.
    Thanks for your time!

    • @brynmag

      +Ariel Sanchez
      Hi Ariel
This is the advice I give everyone.
      1) Upgrade the firmware in your camera. If you are up to date, reflash the same firmware. (i.e re-install it).
      2) Reformat your memory card (make sure you copy all files off files or they will be lost).
      3) Delete and reinstall the GoPro APP.
      4) Reset the camera's wi-Fi name and password.
Try to reconnect the APP, then the smart remote.
These steps fix 90% of problems
If you still have problems, email GoPro Support.
      Cheers
      Bryn

Thanks for the vid that helped me a lot, after you paired it and you want to use it again there is no need to do this step again? it always finds thesame camera?
My remote always connects and disconnects what could here be the problem? Thanks for the help!!

    • @brynmag
      @brynmag  8 лет назад

      +Steve Peetroons
Yes, it should stay paired and reconnect straight away with the same camera (as long as both devices are turned on and GoPro has wi-Fi turned ON). If you change the camera name and/or password, you'll need to re-pair it.
For connection issues, you should try the following:
      1) Delete and re-install the GoPro APP
      2) Update or reflash existing firmware in your camera
      3) Reset wi-fi settings in the camera (reset name and password).
      4) Re-pair with the GoPro APP
      5) reconnect with the Smart remote
If that fails to make a difference, then email GoPro support. You MAY have a faulty unit. BUT try everything else first.
      Cheers
      Bryn

I followed each step up until 2:00 on the video. At that point both the camera and the remote keep giving the search signal as the counter on the camera runs down to 0:00. The camera screen simply "put RC in pairing mode", and the remote says put RC in pairing mode even though it IS in pairing mode (it says "pairing" just above "put RC in pairing mode")

    • @brynmag
      @brynmag  7 лет назад

There have been so many comments like yours. The later version of firmware in the remotes was updated to cater for pairing multiple cameras.
You just end the pairing process and the first camera should be ok.

    • @brynmag
      @brynmag  7 лет назад

GoPro keep changing the wording slightly from one Firmware version to the next. You will have the option, just called something else. I think it said "RC & App" in the version in this video and has since upgraded to 2 separate items "GoPro APP" and "Wi-Fi RC". there is also an option for BT Device with version 5 Firmware. You can use BT to pair smartphones but once the initial pairing process is setup, the GoPro iOS App switches from Bluetooth back to Wi-Fi, it does NOT"Connect + Control" using Bluetooth. This is because Wi-Fi has better bandwidth, security, and range than Bluetooth.

No Julian, the camera creates it's own private wi-fi network to allow devices (smart remotes, the GoPro APP, Removu products, etc) to connect to it.

Handsome Vlad Thank you. You dilemma is one that many people have, whether it be cameras, computers or cars...and more.
Sony have always had a great reputation and while GoPro were the first, the others have been scrambling to keep up. I have no doubt that whatever innovations the other brands come up with, GoPro will continue to deliver new features and functions in future models.
Although I own 13 GoPro cameras (cuz I love GoPro), I also own Canon, Olympus and Samsung cameras as well. They all have a purpose. My DSLR is for Photography (real Estate Photos, Portraits, panoramic, etc) and Video with no fisheye (business Videos, interviews, Studio work, etc). Or I need to change lenses for various reasons (wide, macro, Zoom). The Samsung is for long recording times without fisheye, like battery life tests. The Olympus cameras are point and shoot for outings, BBQs, Family photos, etc.
When I go to an event or activity I take my GoPro Gear KIt, which has 2 x HERO4s and 2x HERO3+s in it. That way I can set up multiple cameras and angles (Live web broadcasts, Timelapses, etc).
So you see, you don't have to choose.
I love GoPro but it is not the only camera in the world.
I buy my GoPro accessories direct from GoPro but you can also search on Ebay and Amazon for the best deals.
