Patio Pour, Looks Like Field Stone but it's actually concrete

- Concrete with the Hauses came today to pour the patio at the new building! We did two styles, Field Stone and Wood, This video is Part 1 which shows the entire process on the field stone process, Part two will be the wood plank section. We are very pleased with the results. We live in Western Pa. and Have around 100 Acres of Land, About 1/2 is ours the rest is my moms, We have 4 kids and one grandchild, 3 Golden Retrievers and one Cat. We enjoy working on our property and making improvements. We sell firewood and soon will be selling hardwood lumber.

Now that's what I call real "American muscle"! Obviously not this teams 1st time working a job together, smooth as silk execution. Did flat work for a few summers as a kid, nothing easy or clean about working concrete for a living, huge respect to those that do, especially at this level of quality.
Very nice job. Much more professional than the clowns that did my basement 35+ years ago. Broke an axle on the cement truck in the driveway. Dumped it in a front end loader and dumped it over the wall then about half worked it. They left and said we'll be back in half hour or so. Well it was the next morning. Archie made me chuckle. The neighbors had a BIG ol basset hound. He roamed the neighborhood. He was everybody's pet. Anyhow, he decided to check the job shortly after the pour. Left footprints all over the floor. The neighbors said they'd pay to have it redone. I said no way! his footprints are there to this day,
Cool weather is good for the concrete and better for the finishers.
You can tell a Well organized Crew that has worked to gather for a While, Quiet not much chatter, or being told what to do. Every Man knows his job! TRUE PROFFESIONALS ! HEY HUNTER!

Can always tell when a crew has their "stuff" together, and work like a well oiled machine. Tom and the guys are that.

The front-chute concrete truck has to be one of mankind's greatest inventions.
We used to add color to the mix at the plant because the product is so toxic to breathe, but both methods work equally well. These guys are true professionals, top to bottom. A joy to watch pros who take pride in their work.

That's a nice looking stamp pattern. We use a little different one for stone. We saw and wash the next day then seal the third day.

Pretty amazing how far concrete stamping and dyes/powders have come in the last 30 years ... it looks great ... most lay people do not understand the real complexities of concrete pouring, different mixes, additives, strengtheners, rebar and mesh, etc ... it's all about having a seasoned, experienced crew .... can't wait to see the whole project when done

Hi Hunter,Ty and girls. Be safe everybody.
I spent a number of years working in concrete construction and I assisted the crew on many stamped concrete jobs. The color combinations are almost endless, just leave it up to your imagination. There are also several ways of coloring the concrete, including mixing the color (liquid) into the mix, so the color goes all the way thru the pour, or troweled (powdered) in the finished surface, so the color doesn’t go all the way thru (only into the surface layer. One job I remember stamping, used a powdered yellow concrete color that got troweled into the finished surface, then a blue release, secondary color, was spread on the surface right before the stamping started. Being a relatively new guy on the crew, I was the runner who helped with the little jobs, like spreading the color, or applying more color to the surface as the other guys worked it in. I also helped get the guys the stuff they needed once the actual stamping began so they didn’t have to stop the stamping process until they had the patio completed.
Nice pour. I owned a concrete/masonry business for many years. Enough so that we wore through more Marshalltown bull floats and Fresno’s than I care to think about. Stamping was just emerging when I got out of the business but I still have a lot of the equipment and still do weekend warrior projects just because it is so satisfying to see the results. They did a great job and things are really taking shape! Happy for you and Melissa, Mike!

Nice to watch someone who's good at using a bull float. I operated one a few times about 50 years ago. Slow and steady is the key. Not easy!
Really, the operator can "Dig & Mess A Pour" in no time. ME - one time ~ switched me to hand troweling real fast. LOL, sigh.

Yup - The going (pushing) is pretty easy but the coming (bringing the bull float back) can be tricky. You have to master the slight lift (we call that the pop) on the return so not to leave marks at the end of the push - especially the first passes when it is the wettest. Very satisfying process once you get it right.

We had our pool surround stamped years ago and it would have made a great video on how NOT to stamp concrete. In a hurry to get the job done late in the day, it was stamped too soon so we got foot prints in an otherwise pretty nice look. Tom's work is amazing. The attention to detail is outstanding.
When everyone does their job and gets to it, the job goes well. The preview of the plank finish looks great. It will be like you are on a deck.

Two of the toughest jobs out there (IMHO) are concrete work and roofing. Never did roofing but we’d always debate roofers on which was tougher and we never settled the debate. But downed a lot of cold beer debating it! LOL! Always great to see professionals do their thing!

Very cool process! Btw, xylene (C 6H 4(CH 3) 2) is an Organic chemical compound obtained from the distillates of coal tar and petroleum, and important as a solvent. Chemically it is dimethyl benzene. since reapplication of xylene followed by surface agitation reconstitutes the sealer and establishes a vigorous fresh bond, the sealer likely contains xylene also.
I think that will look very nice. Good choice!
