    Subscribe goo.gl/Y8ZVar
The Shanghai Maglev is the fastest train in the world! The train runs at top speeds of 431 km/h and travels between downtown Shanghai and The Pudong International Airport. The maglev train will whizz you the 31.5 kilometers in just under 8 minutes!!
    Shanghai Maglev cost:
    Single trip ticket - 50RM
    Round trip ticket - 80RM
Single trip ticket VIP - 100RM
Round trip ticket VIP - 160RM
One of the reasons we travelled to Shanghai was actually to ride this train. As we are both train nerds and this was a once in a life experience we decided to pay the extra money and go in VIP because YOLO... Or something like that!

There're new "low-speed" maglev commuter trains running in Beijing and Changsha, and there are more and more lines under construction. They goes "only" 120km/h in the city. Not that fancy, but the benefit to use low-speed maglev in metro system is to reduce noise. Running at 100km/h, they are pretty much as quiet as a regular passenger car.

Our tour was all organised by Wendy Wu tours, such wonderful time! The train was quieter and more comfortable than expected.
What is VIP ticket of 100RM in £'s? No idea what we paid, didn't ask.
Such excitement! honestly! not scary at all.

Maglev: 50 RMB (40 RMB if you show your air tickets), 8- Minutes & 15-20min interval
      Bus: 26 RMB, 1.5 - 2 Hours & 20-30min interval

@@jaredgarbo3679 Transrapid and therefore the Shanghai Maglev Train, which is basically a german build Transrapid 08, has no wheels due to its engineering. The japanese maglev L0 has wheels to gain speed. German engineering doesn´t need that. They made the system as perfect as it can be seen here.

You have to understand that here in the US most passenger trains do not run above 75mph apart from a few East coast lines. And we are unlikely to see that change any time soon. Too much focus on what will it cost to build and will it make money. Along with the not in my back yard crowd. China has shown that just getting it done is OK.

    • @fnj1017

It is reduced to save electricity cost. The maglev was built as an experimental line before China started to upgrade its network to high speed rail. We were arguing if we should go for the traditional wheeled HSR or maglev. It was built to test the feasibility of a nation wide maglev network. However a lot of things happened along the way, residents were protesting due to radiation concern, and the battery in the train actually caught fire once, Transrapid also refused to transfer the technology to China, so we have abandoned maglev and went for traditional HSR. This line was supposed to be extended city center and hongqiao railway station/airport and finally Hangzhou. They have even built the stations already, but the extension never came true. Longyang station at the time was considered suburb of the city with no one living nearby, so the line never had enough passengers to even cover the electricity bill, later they decided to reduce the spped during certain hours to save some costs. Although longyang station is quite a big interchange station right now, metro line 2 has also extend to the airport, so it still is covering its costs.

    • @fnj1017
      @fnj1017 4 года назад +1

It's a really sad story. Really hoped it would at least extends to connect hongqiao airport. It has been brought up so many times but now the project seems completely dead. Another airport express line is already under construction. The existing section would probably be dismantled when it reaches its life span.

Ah, though it's zero emissions the power for the electromagnets has to come from somewhere! Right now it's probably largely from coal-fired power stations. They do have the biggest solar & wind power programs in the world but it'll be a while before they're absolutely zero emission.
