Some plants kill and eat animals... insects, mice, shrews and even rats!
Everyone knows the world-famous venus's flytrap (see the separate World's Most Spectacular Plants film about this miracle of nature)... but what are the other deadly carnivorous plants and how can they be grown at home?
Join Stewart McPherson on a journey to discover sticky sundews (Drosera) and butterworts (Pinguicula), hungry pitcher plants (Sarracenia and Nepenthes) and intricate cobra lilies (Darlingtonia). Find out how each group can be grown at home!
This is the third of a series of fourteen "World's Most Spectacular Plants" videos. Visit www.spectacularplants.com to see the rest of the series!

What's the life span of the pitcher plant.
With so much coronavirus going on everywhere I read this title as coronavirus instead of carnivorous. Who else ?
How much water do they need?
Vegetarians would be confused after watching this. At least the ones that are religious about it.
LMAO!!!
I want to try growing one but i feel bad for the flies. wtf is wrong with me?!
@@tyrionlancaster5610 I feel no empathy for bugs like flies. they BUG me too much
@@ruby9520 fair
They are in my state on the northeast coast(the northern pitcher plant though) same with Sundews and I want to go find them there are bogs on my property so guess I should go looking
Imagine being so mad against insects that insecticide isn't enough to kill them and you go for barbaric method.
Noelle Schoergze I may or may have not came here planning to buy a few Venus fly traps....
Which one is good for stinkbugs
Why isn't channel 10x the size

I read coronavirus instead of carnivorous. Who else ?
i went straight to the comments to see if it was just me!!
Insporation Lmao, did the same thing
You are clearly neurotic
It’s literally in the name of the Sundew it has dew not glue
I thought the title said coronavirus plants I was about to say
Good observation tho.. coronavirus is actually an anagram of carnivorous
So, are they a danger to bees? I only want to get rid of flies...
Put it on .5 at 0:20 and keep it on
no wonder my plants died when i was a kid, the water and not enough sun was both killing them!
It is danger 😱
But i love 🌱plants
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤑
posta mais, achei poco

Victreebell
Stop touching them please
sandra bassett what will happen if u touch them srry just curious
I mean will they die? Or just be unhealthy? Why will bad things happen if you touch them? Is there a chance of the pitchers snapping off or smth?
@@circa134 if you brush most of them, nothing bad happens. They're fine. Triggering flytraps makes them use energy though. Apart from that, OP is just being overly sensitive and imagining they care about personal space.
@@fellow8085
Oh I was thinking they were like what my grandparents said about touch me nots
If you touch them too much their leaves will fall off
Not sure if true though
Where flowers?

Great plants ;-) I signed on my abo. I wanna see more. You really have great stuff in your vids
I did not know
I learn much knowledge from this video and hope he will continue with in deep about Carnivorous plant
I read "coronavirus plant" 2020 a hell of a yr
Same here 😂
i was like "so this deadly virus came from a plant or are they just making it up let's see" and what i saw was some plants eating insects..
I love carnivorous plants. Been growing them for a few years now. Nepenthes are my faves. Next I love Sarracenia.
Temperate sundews and all North American pitchers need a cold dormancy. Pinguiculas, Cephalotus, and Utricularia appreciate a cooling but isn't required. Heliamphora and Nepenthes like it warm year round.
Love love love your vids. So informative and fascinating.
I read the title Deadly Coronavirus Plants!
"CHECK IT OUT!"
This guy's excitement makes me so happy
I have some and now i learned important things about them
God is great fr the wonderful creation !
Thanks for this video!! I’m currently getting interested in carnivorous plants and I’m getting a Venus fly trap to go with my new room! But one question.. would a Venus fly trap be able to get enough sunlight through a window? I want it in my room so I can feed it while in my room and keep an eye on it if it begins to get unhealthy.
Phoenix oh ok! Thanks for the info! Hopefully my Venus fly trap will live with the sunlight from my window!
Phoenix yeah they really do. Thanks for the information, I hope one day my fly trap will grow up to be a healthy plant and a big part of my life!
Vegans nitemare 😂
So, sarracenia live in swamp or not?
