Breakbeats and follow action is endless fun. Awesome when you make groups to trigger in live for some momentary chaos ;-)

Didn’t know about the island like nature of the clips and certainly never tried the master follow actions. Would be nice to just have a loop have a quantized random start in the clip itself then you’d only need one clip in the 4th bar response phrase. I feel a max for live device coming on. I’m sure that already exists right ? Live is endless. Good god. I mean I look at my modular some days and think. Should it all just be 100% analog with ableton as the controller. That might be accessing the unheard realms. The rest .. samples, grains, fx. Ableton has it covered.

marinate music! loved it again, even if I won't learn anything from a specific video of yours, I watch it man. Just because of your approach and use of language, and your 'comments'. You make my day with every video of yours. 👽

If anyone is wondering what the punchline is when Ned cut the video.... Set the 'breaks' track's 'audio to' drop-down to 'sends only' rather than mute it.

What if you had clip automation to set a looper to record, then a follow action to the looper track to play the loop it had just recorded for a set number of bars, and then a follow action on the looper track to select another clip which it would then loop?
Not sure that made a whole lot of sense, but what I’m getting at is achieving a balance between randomness and repetition - so rather than a constant random stream of phrases, you could get used to a phrase that loops for say, 8 or 16 bars before the next random phrase plays.
Not sure that made a whole lot of sense either. I’ll get me coat.

I hear you.... I think the issue with live looping like that is that you can only manually remove the recorded clip from the record buffer.... If you could automatically bounce it out onto a new track after a designated amount of time (and then clear the buffer) it would be WAY more flexible. The rest of the process sounds doable otherwise.

@@airfixx_8952 Just RECORD the OUTPUT of the looper to a RESAMPLE track for a few minutes (make yourself some coffee or iced tea), then CURATE your favorite sections later. I do this ALL the time 😉😎👍🎶

@@shanonkiyoshi4784 - It's great but there's still some stuff that can't be done without a heavy dose of M4L wizardry.
As per you above; not necessarily a gig; but within the context of the same 'patched' quasi-generative process environment...... You're right in that you can automate a record process to capture a new loop for every bar(s), but you'd still have to stop what you were doing to set up and arrange all the follow actions.

  • @AntonKuznetsovMusic

The problem of follow actions is that it has to be prepared beforehand and it can’t be a smooth process during improvising without getting stuck to the mouse and screen. As far as I know there is no way to control follow actions with a max for live device because the API doesn’t allow it. Is there a potential solution to that?
