Always good to have Nick behind the camera. Not only is he a great help but he always makes sure to keep Dave prepared for falling debris. Not all heros wear capes.
It's what I love about you Dave, you never stop rei-nventing and totally thinking outside the box! All great ideas. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!!
Well that's my new favorite camouflage color combination Brother Dave! That stuff is pretty incredible. Love all the setups you showed. I think I'd definitely add more loops, it'll give you a ton of new uses. Nick! Good hearing you in the background. Thumbs up video y'all ~John
Man I gotta say it's easily my favorite and I'm honestly shocked it came out in 2011 and I've never seen it until now! From what I've read it was only used on uniforms and not packs tarps or tents. We are glad you liked it and thanks for watching brother John
Now you know why I have been using and suggesting to others to use a tarp for over 50 years (all the way back to Viet Nam days)! As always, GREAT SHOW!!! Food for thought, might sound like overkill but I use a grommet every 12 inches with paracord sewn inside the seam (it adds a lot of strength). I have tried both an 8x10 and a 10x12 size and can't decide which I like better. The hammock set up is the way to go in my opinion and my preference (sleep like a baby).
Thanks Richard, I'm glad you liked it. Never hear of putting paracord into the seam but I absolutely love that idea! I'm definitely adding more webbing. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 You're welcome! Keep up the great work and let me know what you think after you put the paracord in your tarp seam. I think you'll like it!
@@puddleduck4924 Alright Puddle Duck!!! Good to hear you're giving it a try. Since I make my own tarp (sewing the seams and adding brass grommets) when I fold the edge of the material I push the paracord to the folded edge and sew it in that position all the way around and then tie the paracord in a square knot in one of the corners and then of course fold the material edge and sew another seam, that way when you install your grommets or webbing loops the cord gives extra strength to the tie off point of each grommet. This helps immensely to keep the grommet from wanting to tear away due to stress. Never had one fail.......yet.
This vid takes me back to my childhood camping in Bear Mountain, N.Y. with my Uncle Sgt. Morgan Brown. May god rest his soul. Great Vid(s), keep them coming. Watching from EAST SIDE OF 285, Gwinnett, COTY

Hi Dave:) You know that I love your creativity. And I learn so much from you. So I am going to plant a seed here for the ultimate winter camp gear. Picture this: Two feet of snow has fallen. That is normal here. In the little house I had on another lake it took 20 ricks of wood to heat in a winter. You are in the woods and need snow shoes to move around. If you move your campsite you need a sled. If you aren’t to go crazy with a cramped quarters you need a little room. For wood, for a fire. That has been my personal challenge & how I target my gear. For a tent I use a 12x20’ tarp to make a hot tent teepee. Only 1/2 of the floor is covered & where I sleep. On the other sides you can put firewood, hang things, etc. I use 6-8 10’ poles for the structure, three lashed together. The teepee is angled enough to slough off snow. The smoke goes up thru the center from a dekota fire. Now all that is still in theory stage. The way to move gear has to be friendly to all seasons. I weigh in at 130# so I would have to be able to handle that. I have firearms for game and not a clue how to trap. I have a hobo fishing rig. The ways that I have been learning from you is to look at everything in new uses. We just had this Russian scare and I haven’t been so afraid as since the cold war. Europe is in Defcon 2… not since the Cuban missile crisis has that level occurred in my knowledge. One of the pluses of moving back to Michigan, like I see in your own familiarity with your home area, is I know what grows here and where. I know the game. But I also know how cruel the winter can be, and how long. Anyone who leaves for the woods unprepared would be in danger of perishing. So I choose this habitat rather than the deserts or mountains of my beloved State of California. I have also been looking at using tree falls as the walls and the support for the ridge line. Also the building of actual shelters. I will probably never use much of this knowledge as I have a perfectly good home. But I believe in knowledge and it gives confidence if things went south. I am not a sky is falling prepper but being prepared for anything in these times is just being responsible. So is a seed planted? Hehehe:) You guys are awesome. The Ramboo
The seed is planted but the issue would be whatever I thought of I couldn't test. I'm 54 years old and we got two feet of snow once in my lifetime here. In Georgia we will go some winters with zero snow so my experience is extremely limited. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching Ramboo
That tarp is the most versatile one I've seen yet that you have made . I would say more grommets and loops might be better . All the configurations were ingenious!! Great video as always Dave !! Take care and stay safe my friend !!!

Over the years of watching, it’s been fun to be in your basement while you fab one of your ideas and then tag along for the first…test n tune of your ideas. I would want many more tie outs on my tarp and I prefer a square one but I agree with Nick, that peapod looking setup may develop into a great option. 👍

It always makes my day when I see that you posted another new video. There has to be hundreds of ways to set up a tarp. The best configuration would depend on the weather, the bugs, the amount of moisture in the soil, the type of ground, your sleep system, ... That is one smart tarp! The camouflage pattern is excellent and just about good for any environment. Of course, your modifications always give your equipment a unique touch. I actually prefered the on the ground set-up as it was so quick to get sorted and settled. I have never really got on with hammocks to be honest, but that did look good being able to cover yourself. This tarp is a great alround shelter with lots of options. Another excellent video from you both as always. Thanks 😃
Thanks Spencer, I'm glad you liked it. For years I kinda avoided a hammock and only used one when the environment dictated that I had to. The more I use one tho the more I like it. Thanks for watching my friend
You & Nick did a excellent review on the baddest homemade tarp use’s available in making your own tarp to a persons needs! Love you guys, and the channel. Be safe, stay healthy, & God Bless everyone.
Great show gentlemen. Those are great ideas you have there. The more uses out of one item the better. (the less items you have to bring). Those mosquitoes are just the worst. I haven't driven a vehicle for about 6 years now, but the mosquitoes get so big up here in Maine, I hit one with my F150 one time and it bent the arm on the wiper blade. 🤔😂. Just kidding, but they feel big enough to shoot with a pellet gun. Thank you Dave and Nick, have a great weekend.
Thanks, we are glad you liked it. We don't have huge mosquitoes round here, the real problem is we have millions of tiny ones that's impossible to swat at! Thanks for watching and you have a great weekend too!
Nick, I really like your camera work in this video! You do a good job of intuiting the entirety of the information Dave is explaining by including camera angles and Vantage points that visualize all of what he's saying. Good work man! Dave you're awesome and I so look forward to all of your videos and content!
Dear Dave n Nick, absolutely marvellous again.what can I say that hasn't been said already by the viewers. In short brilliant ! Take care n stay in good health, n keep those mossies at bay.
That shelter with the logs on the side and bottom is exactly the way I made a shelter at church camp when I was a kid. The difference is I use large leaves layered over the top of me and under me for bedding. I also found a partial sheet of plastic left by the fire pit. I woke up at the crack of dawn to watch Sky Lab pass over head. Yep, I’m 60 and that was a very long time ago.
Excellent video. So much thought out ideas from years of experience. The more you know the more you can draw from and the more you can share. If your mind is like mine, once you get an idea the info comes so fast it is hard to even sleep. Improvise, overcome, adapt. Thanks for the efforts to you and your son. Regards, Loosearrow
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! We think so much alike! Often times I'll get an idea in my head and can not sleep until I can work on it. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Morning Dave .. I’m going to get a coffee and settle in to watch your latest adventure.. This one looks especially interesting…seeing as.. I’ve got yards and yards of fabric waiting to become a tarp and tent 😛 But.. it’s garden season here, sewing projects are for winter! Lol Hope you’re doing well my friend! ATB
It's good to see you again you're always coming up with great ideas the only problem is you're giving them to everybody else it truly is good to see you again and that shelter would make a good wedge also and also one of them Frontier shelters with the roof on it and it never hurts to put Loops all over the edges the more Loops the more configurations even another strip of the liner on the inside like for the ridgepole line one more on each side I should have been more simple and said to put away from the center on each side I just seen so many options when you were making that hammock keep up the great videos I love your guys videos and thanks for sharing them with us
Always great to hear from you Kenneth. I don't mind sharing ideas for free. I won't ever market this stuff anyway. I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for watching
Pretty slick. Maybe need to gather material at ends a certain way when attaching cordage, so when use as cover for a rain event - the rain doesn’t pour in at attachment points. 🤷♂️. Adding more loops and grommets is always good. 😁 Options is always nice. Thanks guys!
That's a versatile tarp. I'd be wanting to make sure I could get enough fresh air with that last configuration you showed. Especially if ya rip a couple of good ones.
Awesome tarp creation, it’s big and versatile. I also like your extra piece of material you that you used for a reflector. If you sewed pole pockets into the long sides of the material you could make a cot out of it , by siding poles into the sides. Or bush craft a long table. Lol. The tarp is another great idea. Have a great day
Hi Dave & Nick, what a ingenious design Dave! well done and thought out, that's great. That camo looks really cool too. Take care guys, see you in the next one. 👍⛺👌
Thats a very cool and versatile tarp you got there my friend. Well done! Great to see ( and hear) you both out there. Nick do a wonderful job behind the camera and with his comments as usual.

Another good one Dave, i love tarps if you can think it you can make it with a tarp . Your covered hammock looked like a cocoon fun stuff see ya in the next one 😃
That camo pattern was insanely good for the location you were in, during the introduction it looked like a greenscreen had made the bag straps invisible.
Another good video. Idea for future, get bulk mosquito net and sew it into a bag open on one end so Nick could stand inside of it while filming. You may have best idea now though. Letting Nick stand still and be bug bait while you keep moving ! HAHA Love y'alls videos, can't wait to see next one. God bless you and your family and y'all have a great day.
Thanks Brian and I'm glad you liked it. Lol, Nick getting ate up is kinda like that other old saying " I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you" Thanks for watching and may God bless you too brother
Hey Dave, awesome video as always, the new shelter and hammock system looks super. If you don't mind, could you maybe do a video going over your pistol belt and butt pack setup with your H straps or Y straps and how you would pack it on a hike, or an overnighter maybe talk about the items you like to carry in combination with that system even if there's like another pack you would add with it for extra carrying capability on like and overnighter. I just love that system and I know you have a lot of experience using it. Thanks in advance.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I may have done a video on buttpacks years ago but I need an updated version. I'll add that to my list. Thanks for watching
Great video. I see the notifications when they come through and know things are still OK with the World. Pencott is the cammed, big-block version of digital camo. I bought a 'wildwood pencott' Helikon Tex GI poncho and used it as a lean-to recently. Two dog-walkers went past and didn't notice. Definitely worth checking out. I just saw they even do a ghillie poncho now too. As for mosquito nets: the British military 'Jungle Bag' is thin, lightweight and has a fine mosquito net stored in the head opening with a zip. Perfect as a bug-proof summer bag, unzipped as a woobie or an extra layer for colder months.
Thanks Joel, I'm glad you liked it. I only recently heard of PenCott and like you say, it's definitely the Hot Rod version of digital camo! I'm hoping to make more gear out of it. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Hi Thanks for getting back to me appreciate it. I love the tarp with the bug net, I've got a USMC Marpat and UCP tarp that I often sleep under and have had many issues with bugs. I wanted to ask you about the badlands camo? I really like the look of it as well, and I was wondering if the camo looks like a solid color from a distance or does the pattern show a difference from a distance? I've not tried to much Badlands camo as yet but are considering it?
During the greenery of summer this looks like a big blob of tan in the forest. During fall and winter the Badlands blends in more like multiple colors. Sounds strange but I don't know why. I guess it tricks the eyes?

I actually prefered the on the ground set-up as it was so quick to get sorted and settled. I have never really got on with hammocks to be honest, but that did look good being able to cover yourself. This tarp is a great alround shelter with lots of options. Another excellent video from you both as always. Thanks 😃
Thanks Spencer, I'm glad you liked it. For years I kinda avoided a hammock and only used one when the environment dictated that I had to. The more I use one tho the more I like it. Thanks for watching my friend
Amazing as always! Thank you Dave.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it my friend
Your knowledge, preparation, craftsmanship and gear makes you the King of the American Bushcrafters Dave. 👍
Thank you my friend!
I like that camo patern very much! Thanks Dave and Nick! 👍😁👍😁
Oh its easily going to be my favorite camo too! Thanks for watching
Huge fan of the covered hammock ! Lol Thanks again for a great informative video bud!
Thanks Paul! I'm glad you liked it
You & Nick did a excellent review on the baddest homemade tarp use’s available in making your own tarp to a persons needs! Love you guys, and the channel. Be safe, stay healthy, & God Bless everyone.
Thanks Ron, we are glad you liked it and the channel. Thanks for watching and may God bless you too
Great show gentlemen.
Another great video lads keep up the excerlent work thanks
Thanks Dave! I'm glad you liked it
Your vidoes are always interesting and full of information. Thank you both!
Fantastic to hear that Theresa! Thanks for watching

Thanks Tenda! Man this is easily my new favorite camo pattern
Dave you hit the nail on the head with this one 2 thumbs up.
Thank you!
Nick, I really like your camera work in this video! You do a good job of intuiting the entirety of the information Dave is explaining by including camera angles and Vantage points that visualize all of what he's saying. Good work man! Dave you're awesome and I so look forward to all of your videos and content!
We both thank you Eddie!
I love the design.
Thanks Joe!
Love the setups!
Thanks for the video brother.
Thanks Brother! We are glad you liked them
I really like your tarp with all three configurations, the pen cot badlands is perfect good camo. Can't wait until your next one.

I bet he wakes up in the morning… 💡💡💡 I have an idea… boom! Something different each video.. thanks Dave!!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it my friend!
Lol! You know me well Lee!
Love the tarp but I would need a 10’x12’. Thanks Dave and Nick.
P. S. - please buy Nick some Skeeter spray 👍😃
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. I think two more yards of fabric would have hit 10' x 12'. Thanks for watching
Sounds interesting! I bet you loved it as a kid. Thanks for sharing that and thanks for watching.
Great job as always David
Thank you Justin!
I’ve got yards and yards of fabric waiting to become a tarp and tent 😛
But.. it’s garden season here, sewing projects are for winter! Lol
Hope you’re doing well my friend!
ATB
Morning Ruth! Enjoy the coffee and the video. Write this idea down for winter. Take care and thanks for watching
I love your inventions. Thanks for the video Dave and Nick. See you next time. 👍👍
You are very welcome Ian and we are glad you liked it!
Good ideas! And thanks for watching
That's a versatile tarp. I'd be wanting to make sure I could get enough fresh air with that last configuration you showed. Especially if ya rip a couple of good ones.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Lol, gotta have fresh air in some cases!
Have a great day
Thanks Peter, Im glad you liked it and I really like your ideas for the fire reflector mods! Thanks for watching
Great video. Thank you sir for some great ideas for a nice shelter ideas to think about. Bye from
Thanks Richard, I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching brother
Hi Dave & Nick, what a ingenious design Dave! well done and thought out, that's great. That camo looks really cool too. Take care guys, see you in the next one. 👍⛺👌

Thats a very cool and versatile tarp you got there my friend. Well done! Great to see ( and hear) you both out there. Nick do a wonderful job behind the camera and with his comments as usual.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it Ulrica! Very versatile and the cool part is we are still discovering ways of using it! Always great hearing from you and thanks for watching
Another good one Dave, i love tarps if you can think it you can make it with a tarp . Your covered hammock looked like a cocoon fun stuff see ya in the next one 😃
Thanks Ronald, Im glad you liked it! Yep, a tarp will pretty much cover any situation if its large enough. Thanks for watching
Hi Dave and Nick - Dave, your tarps are always amazing! 👌
Hello and thanks! We are glad you liked it
That camo pattern was insanely good for the location you were in, during the introduction it looked like a greenscreen had made the bag straps invisible.
Thanks Dave! I too am very impressed with it. Thanks for watching
Great trip guys ! Love the P B ! Love the set ups ! TAKE CARE..
Thanks! We are glad you liked it
Another good video.
Idea for future, get bulk mosquito net and sew it into a bag open on one end so Nick could stand inside of it while filming.
You may have best idea now though. Letting Nick stand still and be bug bait while you keep moving ! HAHA
Love y'alls videos, can't wait to see next one.
God bless you and your family and y'all have a great day.
Thanks Brian and I'm glad you liked it. Lol, Nick getting ate up is kinda like that other old saying " I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you" Thanks for watching and may God bless you too brother
Hi y'all sweet setup bro
Hello Gary and I'm glad you liked it!
I do like that camo pattern, fits in your area outstanding...great job...stay frosty brother
Thanks, Im glad you liked it and thanks for watching
These are such creative ideas. I really like the pattern of that material. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and skills.
Thanks Rob, Im glad you liked it and I can easily see this being my favorite camo! Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Thanks Dave your the best
Nice closing, too, Nick!
Thank you Steve!
Hay Reallybigmonkey1 great channel. I now got Ten years back catalog to watch :D
Fantastic to hear that! And some of my better stuff was filmed years ago when I wasn't so lazy. Lol.
Enjoy the video a very good one Nick you should have done the debris test. Lol. Good video guys
Thanks, we are glad you liked it Chad. Man I hate them debris tests. Lol. Thanks for watching
Excellent Video!!

Big Fun! i was hoping for this! i'm putting the final touches on my truck camping/ bugout kit...............
Sounds great!
Awesome tarp, great content & interesting set up’s. Thanx for the vid
Thanks Richard! We are glad you liked it
Ordered some fabric based on your recommendation of the fabric. Will use as an extender for my lavuu. To make a larger tent
Very cool to hear that!
Nice versatile set up. Great camo color. 8 x10 is the way to go. Allows better coverage for Holiday Inn camping comfort from sun or rain..
Thank you.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it and thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 I had a feeling that the seasons might change its effectiveness. I live in a sub-tropical climate but dry. So it might work ok where I am in Southern Queensland Australia.
