  • Before the medieval castle, Monteriggioni had been inhabited since the Etruscan period. To discover this period that many ignore, we visited Abbadia Isola, a few km away from Monteriggioni, and its abbey, strategically located on the Via Francigena for a thousand years. Inside, the Archaeological Museum of Monteriggioni was founded, which contains reconstructions of both the Middle Ages, when, as the focal point of the struggle between Siena and Florence, the abbey became very rich, and the life of the Etruscans and the most important tombs, including the very large tomb of Calisna Śepu, discovered in 1893, which contained 438 objects and 105 different burials.
The museum also houses the ancestor of the inhabitants of Monteriggioni, the so-called man of the Chiostraccio, long believed to be very ancient, the oldest Tuscan ever found.
We spoke with the experts who rediscovered it, who reconstructed it and from whom we received revelations about the origins of the Etruscans
We thank the Archaeological Museum of Monteriggioni: www.monteriggioniturismo.it/i... and its director Giacomo Baldini for the hospitality, the geologist Ivan Martini and the anthropologist Stefano Ricci for revealing the secrets behind the Chiostraccio man

È sorprendente la quantità di tesori che abbiamo, ed è altrettanto sorprendente la svogliatezza con cui li valorizziamo. Grazie per questo video!.
