Today it may be that 2 railroads own the 4 separate tracks, but I'd bet that each one of these tracks has heritage of original railroads such as New York Central, Pennsylvania, Grand Trunk Western (CN), Norfolk Western, Chesapeake & Ohio, etc. Very cool. I see Mill Street has 5 tracks to cross!! WOW!
Yep, GTW was and still is part of the 2 outer tracks. Mill has 5 tracks, but 2 are within one set of signals. Harrison Ave., in Trenton, MI has 6 tracks.
most likily they have it set up that way so if the cars are stopped for a train they are not backed up over the other track. that would be bad if they were setting on the other track and a train was comming.
Do you guys have a lot of these "multi-tier" crossings up that way? I'm from Alabama, and can't recall every seeing any down this way. I love the idea though, given the spacing of the track. I bet it would be quite an endeavor to try to accurately model something like this on a scale model. :D
It's usually no longer than 5 to 10 minutes. I know that crossing you are talking about. It takes forever there, mainly because the CN Flat Rock yard is not far from there.
Yep, it was. Someone hit the gate last Sunday, March 30, and cracked it. That's just what I hoped would happen, so they would replace it and put a new one on the right way, with the RECO top mount lights, instead of those cheap rear mount ones...
How long does everyone wait when a train is going through the crossing? There is one crossing i had to wait and wait for about 20-30 min. on Fort st. (M85) Near Van Horn Rd in Trenton.
Because the gates go down on the outside to keep traffic from backing up on the other tracks. This crossing isn't wired right though...as the two middle tracks come on when a train is on one of the outer. That is wrong.
I know. It's very irritating, let alone unsafe. It's Conrail's fault. CN's is right though, as their back lights do not flash unless the train is on that particular track.

Very interesting though for Mill St. to have 5 Tracks & Harrison Ave. to have 6 Tracks.
why does the closest crossing to the camera go off when the trains like on the middle track? it seems strange.
The new Cantilevers Conrail Installed all have WCH mechanical bells unlike the old ones which had early GS type 2's

i like how all the lights are flashing that looks nice

You think fort st. Is bad then try Allen rd. Or van horn rd. It's much worse there than at fort st.
That's a nice Nathan P5 on that NS GP40.
What does the sign hanging on the wire between to the two traffic light signals say? I assume that light is wired in for preemption?
wow. i'd love to have this kind of crossing in my city. how many crossings are at this site?
Yes, we have 12 or so crossings similar to this one. Although, this crossing isn't wired correctly.
CN owns the 2 outside tracks, while Conrail (NS) owns the 2 inside ones. That's how it's been for a long time.
Was that a NS train but with CSX power?
Yes it's a csx

Agreed.
Yep. :)
Is that a csx
@Fredron Hopkins thanks can't tell the number
@Fredron Hopkins it is a csx right
@Fredron Hopkins it's a nice train
@Fredron Hopkins thanks again
dang that first train is what you call the one engine wonder
@WILDSIGNSIGNALMAN You got that right.

the car at 0:54 was supposed to stop at the intersection
look at all the pretty lights!
haha
Wow - that's a lot of red lights! If a driver can't tell it's time to STOP, he shouldn't be driving! There are, like, over 90 red lights!
@owensri2 but it did in an another video
I would hate to be stuck in the middle of that crossing!!
0:09 CSX autorack on NS Detroit Track
Those rear lights are weird by wyandotte standards
What rear lights
Alvin Logan Lmao this was like 5 months ago and the rear lights are the ones facing traffic on the opposite side of the tracks
@fgossage in live in Tuscaloosa, and there's one here.
For once there's a train!!
I don't think that will happen... :)
That’s one bland K5LA
