  • Getting the underhook in the guard, especially the butterfly guard and the half guard, is incredibly important because it gives you a huge amount of control over your opponent's body and also gives you a route to his back. This gripfighting technique to get the underhook is one I learned by watching Eddie Cummings in competition and I hope it helps you too! really nice, I am starting to work on my butterfly guard as a white belt and this will help me for sure, thanks a lot!

      Yes, just make sure to really drill down into the 'basic' butterfly sweep because that move (or the threat of that move) really drives a lot of the game

      Stephan Kesting thanks a lot for the extra advice Stephan, greetings from Greece!

    I totally appreciate this. To me, getting the undertook and winning the head battle are both the most important part of butterfly guard, and the most difficult. Can't wait to try this

    I used this two on one grab this week and wreaked havoc with it, albeit mainly with white belts. I actually reached through around the elbow with the right hand after the initial grab and pull in order to put on a one handed kimura by grabbing the wrist. The reaction was to dive to the floor to escape the lock and I was coming to the side with my partner chest down on the deck and a look of hurt and surprise on their face.
    In your instructionals with Rob Biernacki, he showed a two on one grab to arm drag with the hands reversed. I found that hard to do but I think this grab and then switching the hands is an interesting alternative.

    This works so well..I was able to improve jus by applying that wrist motion some instructors forget to tell ppl to trap..since most intructors expect you to take potion quickly or work ur way to it. instead of out smarting.

    No head grab? Would make the sweep easier at some point I think.. Great video, thanks.

    I'm 230 lbs or so, my friend is 182 lbs he has a lot more leg strength just raw power but I can beat in standing or ground. Same thing with one of the older guys he can bench 400lb he's 250 lbs but I can beat him as well, I know your bench doesn't mean your good at fighting but I don't understand how come I am weaker being only able to bench 200 maybe but still beating people who can do double. Let me know what you think. Ps nice video

    off the topic a little bit but can someone tell me if the point of triangle is to choke or to make someone feel hurt bc i've been doing with my friend and he is fine but i'm tired after 2 times trying

      it's to choke, your legs and his arm that is through should be tight against his neck, when you squeeze the compression should cut off the blood flow in the carotid arteries

      thanks a lot guys, i'm new to this and always thought that if you can't get out of a position you have to tap, now i see the reason!

    • @PHOBOS300
      @PHOBOS300 6 лет назад +1

      if you can't get out but there's no danger, i would not tap; save your energy, relax and wait for a chance to get out.
      while competing i might even fake some choking noises to make them waist a little more energy before they move on to something else.
      in all cases though, if there is a risk of being injured you should tap, we have all taped dozens of times and will dozens more; its not worth getting hurt over

      if he's not tapping its either because you haven't pulled hids free arm across your body (so hes shoulder presses into he's own neck) or your not cutting the angle by pushing off he's hip
