I like multiple stems or trunks. I can splay them out and cover with mulch for the winter, and if I lose a trunk, I've already got others. If the dirt is or gets high enough, some of them can put out their own roots so that some of the trunks can just be cut off below their roots for another tree.
I’ve noticed the smiths fig. Here has light yellow leaves 🍃 and the feed the same as the others. It’s growing well regardless of the leaf colour. Nice work buddy. 🔱😳🔱
My chicago hardy is looking great. I attribute that to you. thanks for this content, the peach videos have been great! Also I have a request you make another peach video about ants and pests.
Also, for the rust I used a homemade concoction of "non coated" aspirin which you can typically only find as chewable these days mixed with water and sprayed on the leaves.. got rid of all the rust.
Hello, I would greatly appreciate it if I can have your opinion, I live in North Texas zone 8 if I am not mistaken, I want 3 or 4 potted fig trees, so far I got a Violette de Bordeaux and a Celeste, what other two varieties would you choose that are self pollinating? Again, THANK YOU!
I have a ficus sycamorus that I rooted from a cutting. It grew three branches pretty quickly under grow lights in my house . When the roots reached the bottom of the pot, I transplanted and moved outdoors but it turned a little yellow abd dropped a few leaves and one branch. When I repotted, I used regular potting soil when it originally was growing in a cactus mix so did ot get too much water ? I removed I and put it in a smaller pot and uts back under the grow lights . It's been a year so does it need a soil that dries out more quickly or maybe some fertilizer? I don't want to over fertilize but maybe it needs some? The soil I'm currently using is kellogs potting soil.
In high wind environments. Luckily those trees on the wall have good wind screens otherwise I would stake them all. You can also let the main trunk go funky a bit and then when you up pot, adjust the angle by rotating the root ball. Every tree should have a straight trunk. It'll be easier to have better form and therefore higher production.
I have a two years old Fig tree over 6 foot and many branched, healthy looking and very green. It was purchased from nursery. There is no indication of any figs at all. what do I need to do to make this tree to produce? Any advise would be appreciated. Reza
I haven't been fertilizing!!! It's my first time with these container figs so can I still fertilize a couple of times now before winter? Also what do I do with all the new growths shooting up from the base? It even has little figs on them. Thanks, I'm going to try to go through all your videos ... I'm kind of flying in the dark ⚜️
Hi Ross , great job just asking ? When fig trees start growing more branch’s and figs at this time would you cut them down prune to make the bigger figs grow
Question. I have fig tree in 5 gallons water one stream tree, very nice. Recently start the leafe get Rust brown on the edge of the leafe, how I can treat this rust. Please advise
What is the correct fertilization mixture is correct. I'm trying to help a friend of mine who has a white fig i believe that's what he said but it hardly gives any figs. What's he doing wrong ?
Break and leave the branch dangling? I still get the green leaves to about oct . Yes those leaves do die first compared to a non broken branch but the keep their green leaves pretty long. I guess it similar to girdling
Compost tea every other week, starting in spring and right through the summer. The soil needs microbes, especially in pots. The microbes bring the nutrients. Feed the soil not the tree. The one thing fig growers do not seem to know is soil science……
About now. On younger trees that you want larger, you can push it a little. Keep things hot and limit water. We want our growth to stop and lignify before frost in November.
You say use at least a 10 gallon pot. Presumably to keep the roots moist. Others say use a smaller pot to prevent root rot which comes about because the larger pot retains moisture longer I'm biased toward a smaller pot because of the weight issue but realize or it hard to accept limited root growth expansion
I have a little fig tree in a one gallon starting growing alot even figs after a few weeks, suddenly I noticed it went limp ,just like that.i thought maybe it needed more space so I planted into the ground still limp,no discoloration, Any advice?
Figs can go through shock pretty easily. When i moved my first one from one house to another it dropped its leaves. They all came back and then were lost over winter later on the same year. It did fine. Until my ex ran it over with a lawn mower along with some lavender i had planted 🤷🏻♀️ i have a new one we layered off the parent plant again and its doing well
You are all over the place. You keep changing ideas going from one plant to another. A better way is just stick to one plant and educate the viewer concerning that one plant.
You don’t want all your fig trees in 10 gallon pots if you are over the age of 40 or so. You will need a wheelbarrow to carry all of your trusses in. You will be in danger of slipping a disc or damaging your back in some way. I’ve been where you are and trust me, move this shit back to 5 or 7 gallon. You will injure yourself, guaranteed. It’s not worth getting a few extra figs for a lifetime of back problems. Also that hernia surgery is very painful to go through. I’m sure you won’t listen as I didn’t listen, but I’d feel bad if I didn’t lay the truth upon you. Father Time will always win.

I love my desert king fig trees. The leaves feel like leather and they're so soft. This is by far my favorite tree recently.

Thanks for the newbie tips! I'm a newbie and the video is so helpful.

I have several branches. How to trim it and when is best to trim it to produce single stem?
I bought a Celeste that came with Yellow rust filled leaves and now they are a really nice green. I have 3 words for you.. Alaska Fish Emulsion.
Also, for the rust I used a homemade concoction of "non coated" aspirin which you can typically only find as chewable these days mixed with water and sprayed on the leaves.. got rid of all the rust.
@@BoneFrossil thanks for the tip

Ross, talking about training trees. When/why do you stake them?

When should I pinch it?

Pinch it, after winter
I haven't been fertilizing!!! It's my first time with these container figs so can I still fertilize a couple of times now before winter? Bea Long u could probably give it one feed. i wouldnt feed it again or the chances are super increased that u will lose the race to the winter
@@maxrocks00 thanks so much!!!
When you pinch the top does it stop height growth and then fruit more? Thank you
I'm wondering the same thing. You actually pinch it off?
Hi Ross , great job just asking ? When fig trees start growing more branch’s and figs at this time would you cut them down prune to make the bigger figs grow

Copper fungicide
What soil mix do you use?
I have 10 years old fig tree ,it give us twice a year fruit ,but the in side of the fruits are dry. (not eatable).what do u think the problem is?
I think your variety is not eatable! Can u send me a picture?
What is the correct fertilization mixture is correct. I'm trying to help a friend of mine who has a white fig i believe that's what he said but it hardly gives any figs. What's he doing wrong ?
Could be many things. I need more information, Tony.

How old sounds too small for bearing fruit
