they are entertaining because most people haven't got a clue where their seafood come from and these guys all love the work they do and don't BS people about the kind of work they do
@pedanticseal4725 Post seen 2/16/24 Just bc there are laws about stealing traps doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. It's probably harder to steal traps today that it was years ago. The fishermen who use these traps probably have more security on them like maybe a gps tracker or something like it. I'm sure traps get stolen or even moved so someone else can get better catches, bc where their traps are they aren't catching anything. They will check the traps of one of the bouys to see if they have caught anything and if what they caught is good and the traps are full they might take what's on the traps or just move them somewhere else and lay down their own traps and keep what they catch. The police and coast guard can't be everywhere all the time.

I never knew that bit of information on Maine lobster fishers. Glad to know it supports small businesses. Also I know it’s a small thing but I absolutely love watching you guys work. You make hard work look easy and that’s a testament to you and your crew’s experience and skill.
If you actually knew what they eat you might not want to eat them. Mostly detritus dead stuff that makes it to the bottom and anything they have a chance to feed on.
@@larrymixer144 Bottom feeding is what gives them their sweet taste. If they weren't raking through the garbage, they wouldn't have their sweet flesh and no one would waste their time eating them.

How heavy are your traps? Love your content. Seems like the lobsters are passing on the fact that you remove parasites and give them snacks, like a friendly UFO.🛸
It's been a long time since I've hauled traps but the wire ones are fairly light, they have some added bricks in them to make them a little heavier but I'd say 50 or 60 pounds if I were to guess. Maybe they're more but they're not super heavy. I used to haul wooden traps by hand 30 plus years ago and that made you man!🤣
Speaking as a Nova Scotian ... I have mad respect for you and your team's efforts. Perhaps the Canadian Member of Parliament for Fisheries and Oceans need to re-visit their policies and make some changes for the good of everyone involved.
You should be on the Discovery channel. I have learned so much about lobsters and the industry. It’s really interesting to learn about this plus entertaining to boot …good job and thank you!
My admiration for your 'style' knows NO bounds. I used to be a lobsterman when young here in Cornwall uk.....we worked c. 180 inks, frenchies & parlours & shut our own nets for fresh bait to keep £$£sts down. Back then through the 70s prime blueys were £2.50 [under 1kg.] and large [over 1kg.] fetched £1.80. My son works 80 parlours in summer & gets 'eye watering' dosh for primes & ditto for big boys. Bl**dy hard work for all you guys.....how I admire y'all!!! x
WOW you guys work REALLY hard!!! And it seems like you throw back 80-90% of what's in the trap! Makes me appreciate my next lobster more. I also love the fact that you're not playing to the camera, trying for cute and clicks. I'm interested in everything you're saying. Really cool to learn the lobster boats are owner operated. I live near Seattle. Really enjoying learning about lobstering on the east coast. It's all salmon and crab here.
LOVE your content. My dad owned a 42', cedar-hulled, flat-bottomed 1927 lobster boat (max speed was 12 kts, LOL!) that he ran as a dive boat from NY and NC for years. I find such fond memories smelling salt air and a diesel engine! Thank you for being such an entertaining educator!
I love that Maine protects the individual owner operator. Protecting small business is critical for our economy. I will definitely only look for Maine lobsters from here forward.
I sure like how the fisheries are structured in Maine for lobstering and the way the blue fin tuna is managed , would be great if the international fisheries would implement these examples !
How long have you had those two working on your boat with you? And have you gone through lots of crew over the years? Just curious as to how it works out there. Thanks for the great content.

I'm actually wondering if it would be easier to keep track of your bouy's by attaching a GPS marker on them, make it easier to identify and keep track of them. Otherwise you guys seem to have a pretty decent system. The fact that you can remember 80 bouy locations in shapeless, bobbing, completely identical strips of water with no other landmarks or features is impressive to me.
