That's what it's modeled after. I live near here, unfortunately the town are even more rundown than the ones in GTA, and the place stinks terribly due to the rotting fish and extremely salty water.
Good point. And the lake is not "manmade" either. The water must have been there or the levee that broke would not have been built there to begin with. Students of Earth Science know that water has flowed into the basin many times over eons.
Please rewrite your notes that the Salton Sea "is a ghost town." Actually, there are a number of towns around the Salton Sea and most are inhabited, including North Shore, Bombay Beach and Salton City. And many people who live around the Sea have been interviewed and they seem to love the area.
"it's only source of water (is) runoff from surrounding fields" This is not accurate. My understanding is that the Sea currently has three water sources. The Alamo River does carry in agricultural runoff water, but the New River carries in treated wastewater from the city of Mexicali and the Whitewater River is carries in natural water from the San Gorgonio wilderness which is near Palm Springs.
As of 2017, all the the Alamo River canal (it is manmade) agricultural water is being sent to San Diego County. That water is likely as polluted as when it was flowing into the Sea, but the State of California took the water away from the Sea anyway, and away from it's 9,000 residents, to promote growth in San Diego County. Dirty b*stards.
Ghost Reportin' The *water that flowed in initially from the Colorado River levee break* was fresh. As the Sea sat and water continued to flow down into it from the surrounding agricultural fields, it became saltier and saltier. This is because, we are told, the Salton Basin used to be sea bed (part of the Sea of Cortez). If you look at a map of South California/North Mexico you can see this. The soil all around this area is heavily laden with salt.
Well DDT was used worldwide that time, fighting Malaria and protecting crops. Farmers always want to use this, and they tend to overuse to wade off parasites.
You must be kidding. USA was one of the first nations to ban DDT. Russia and many other nations have far more toxic lakes then the USA. Its like your brain is programmed against the USA with info that is not true.
"it's brighter here". Gets me every time.
Especially with all that DDT dust in your eyes.
I can see Trevor's house from here!

That's what it's modeled after. I live near here, unfortunately the town are even more rundown than the ones in GTA, and the place stinks terribly due to the rotting fish and extremely salty water.
The salton sea is shrinking and we can’t let that happen
The lake will dry up in one moment and all toxic dust will be in one high dose. Is that correct Mr. Chaos?

I live in Coachella. I can confirm Desert Shores is Sandy.
I live about 50 minutes away from the dalton sea and I know for a fact that that train crashed and has been rotting under a bridge since I was little

Hello
Only in America can this happen, using DDT without any thought of what will happen
That's right, who cares, nobody !!

I had to do a report on this lake when I was in ninth grade about ten years ago
What this country does to its environment is a the true disaster. Zero accountability!
Tell me about it. I’m a conservation scientist/forester here and it’s very difficult to cope with. But Atleast I know I have job security!
Maga! 🤣
Yea! :) Just what I needed another environmental disaster looming over my head.
