Give her opponent credit. It's not like Osaka played terrible. What we saw with this loss is the unpredictability of women's tennis. A low rank or unranked player can beat a top player. There is no one player on the women's side that is dominating the game. I know a lot of people don't like Serena Williams but after she retires we will really see how great she really was. There will not be a "Serena Slam" for a long time.

WHAT A MATCH from Jil, it was worth staying awake till passed 3 AM (and I'll stay a lot more, cause Bencic is starting soon).
Jil, suffering many injuries since months, WTA 76, wild card in Cincinatti just beat world n°2, after having lost the 1st set and being led 0-2 0-30 on her serve in the 3rd set (so, she finally put a 6-1 to Osaka in the end)!
In the 1st round, she already massacred Cirstea, WTA40 by 6-2 6-0, and then in 2nd round she beat Pera 6-1 6-4. WHAT A WEEK so far for the great Teichmann!

I didn't write she won the set 6-1, but that from 0-2 down, she put a 6-1 to Osaka. From 0-2 to 6-3, it makes + 6-1, it's not too tough mathematics I think...

I think Osaka’s problem is that she does LOVE tennis.. she lets the outside world interfere with her tennis..this reminds us of what amazing mental strength Serena and the big 3 have as they are truly passionate and determined to the sport they love, blocking out everything else when on court

yeah, you can tell, her energy and mental presence are low and distant, and *this is often* it seems... unlike eg Serena who was raw and in your face, like she said she is hard-skinned compared to Naomi...

      @teethart9865 3 года назад +8

Yup. She cares way too much how the world sees her. The crowd cheered her opponent more, I’m wondering if that bothered her too. Her sister said in that letter that Naomi was bothered a family member said she wasn’t good on clay. Like who cares what anyone thinks? Just do your thing. She will lose some, and that’s okay. But she must never let the fear of how people will see her destroy her.

I hate to say it because I'm a huge fan of her but I gotta show tough love. She's allowing herself to become soft. She's allowed the media and her haters to dictate her career and treat her like a little child because they don't respect her as a grown woman which is sad. And now just like a child she's getting spanked by her haters and the media which carries on to her getting spanked on the tennis court by people not even in the top 20. As mentally drained Naomi is right now I believe even a high school tennis player could beat her and I'm not even trying to joke I'm foreal. Until someone tells her to develop a grown woman mentality like Serena she's going continue to get spanked by the media and on the court. A hard head makes for a soft behind. And Naomi's behind is already bruised and soft. She just gotta grow tough and harder skin on top of it. She'll bounce back but only if develops a grown woman mentality.

Naomi not going to win US Open this year. Just shows you, when you open your mental self up, opponents know that, and they will use that to their advantage. Another prime example of not having to say everything that’s on your mind. People aren’t afraid to play Naomi anymore, the intimidation factor is gone.

Osaka is more concerned with activism and feelings, than with focusing on improving and playing consistently good tennis.
When she focuses on playing tennis, she’s the best in the world. When she gets distracted with all these other things, she becomes an entitled multi-millionaire victim who produces mediocre tennis. Then the press asks the totally normal question of “why?”, and that sends her into an existential crisis and blames others for it.

Well not only did Jill recover she decisively gave Naomi and ole fashion ass whooping that was somehow worse than the one she took at the Olympics only because Naomi just looked like a rookie after the first set. She just didn't seem all the way there and honestly a high school tennis player could've put a beating on Naomi with the errors she made in second and third set. She'll bounce back of course but she gotta find the fire she had last year. Maybe she'll find it at the US Open. I think these back to back third round loses are going set up the Naomi we once knew.

For Osaka ,the basic point is how to use her power fully, not only by her forearms & wrists. Must use body swings & weights in synchronization to hitting & serving. When facing strong spinning & high loops, cute angle's fast ball, mere arm's strength & big racket's movement is inadequate . So she lost to Sakari , Muchova, Teichmann, Bencic. She can win over Serena , Kvitova, Sabalenka , because they hit flatter . less spin , though powerful but Osaka can bounce back easily just by arm's force.

I don't think Roger Federer's performance was affected by hundreds of million dollars he received from the sponsors. Osaka's problem is not from the over-burdend sponsorship but lacks of self confidence. Eugenie Bouchard is a more typical example of overrated sponsorship in this case. Naomi's overweight? I agree for now but I don't think that's because she is drunk with honey taste of money. She showed already extreme introvert character in the post match interview when she beat Serena in the US Open, which was long before she gets mountains of sponsors. As she said, she has been struggling with mental health, and she will be back on track.

Osaka struggling recently with fast top spin forehands… first vondrousova and now this. Could that be her major weakness?

Or possibly lefties in general maybe. For instance she never really beats Kerber with that 2017 US as an exception

Teichmann is very alike to country woman Patty Schnyder game style wise.

I like Osaka, but she is going into Bouchard territory with all her involvement in off the court things….her focus isn’t 100% on tennis when it should be.

@@springfield03sniper Well, I wouldn't say her focus need to be 100% on tennis - IF she's capable of managing tennis (her day job) and then everything else. Even Giorgi said she has other interests outside of tennis, but it's how she.manage everything. Osaka is mentally weak AND taking on a lot of endorsements/responsibilities.
