I've got a set of these on a 496 in a boat. The first time I ever nailed the throttle with the boat in the water it shocked the hell out of me, what a holeshot!!!!!
I've ran these heads NA and boosted, the V1 I had needed the vent area opened up and also the oil drain back...otherwise a great head and yes your basically getting fully ported for $1000 cheaper... We even ran them on a 498ci blow the tires off rolling 55mph with 3.55 gears... Also have used some of the larger Rec Port.... I've had good luck out of AFR on BBC...
I ordered a set of these heads in June I was suppose to get them in July I called the other day now I won't get them till October I seen these same heads out flow all the rectangular port heads on a video at Westech and that's what sold me on them it was a 80 horsepower gain over stock heads on a 468 I will be using them on my 427 can't wait till I get them.
Hi Richard... I'm like you... All the tests I've read or watched have very good things to say about these heads and even some of the comments posted on this channel of people that have used them have been positive.... Hope you get your heads soon!!!
Excellent choice in cylinder heads- this whole engine was well thought out and really hits home with me. Not sure what your business is for a living but you should be building engines like this for resale.
Thanks Philip... Always enjoy your comments... And it sounds like you have a pretty in-depth knowledge of engines yourself... I built some performance engines for people years ago... Also had a flow bench and Sioux valve grinder and seat set and did a lot of head porting and carburetor modifications for people.... That's why I'm so impressed with these heads... But I got out of it years ago, and have been doing R/D Design work for company's I've worked for... Out on my own again and kind of feeling out my new direction.... Thanks for all your input Philip its appreciated...👍
It’s a pleasure watching you. Much respect. I enjoy the talent and time to blueprint and do the things that I value as important in a build. I also am doing a build with that 265 head. Just not sure how big on the shortblock and I have one person in mind who I would want to do the shortblock for me.
AFR is a high quality product I've been using them since they were Brownfield heads. Still remember they are mass produced the runouts of the seats are not going to be as close as you would expect them to be.
Thanks for sharing I bought the AFR 325 and a Super Victor then had them checked and fully ported,He cut the intake into at the middle to port like he wanted,,I have a 505 ci engine I may have to much head ,I may order a block and make a 565 ci for these heads to work, he recommended a 1350 cfm carburetor, Self Racing, Kevin did a great job, He did these heads about a year ago I got to get going! Subbed for future videos
Wow Ronald ... Sounds like your going to have a very high hp engine.... I looked up (Self Racing) and looks like they are a top Engine Performance Shop... Good luck with your engine and thanks for the Sub...👍
@@Myersmetalworks I have do business with them for years and sad to say covid caused Kevin and Glen to pass away, Great family,y car is fast with the current 496 and Pro comp heads and if I install the new heads they claim I'd pick up a 1/2 second, I run 567 @ 123 on my last pass and I'm getting a little old to be going much faster! I just let it idle and deck it on foot brake, ofcourse it has a pro brake but the 496 is a fresh build and I shift it @ 6600 rpms, I running a large Howard's Roller cam that will really perform if I'd turn it up ,it's got all aftermarket bottom end and I wouldn't be scared to buzz it up but heck foot braking what's the use!LOL
I have the same heads on my 427 60 over so it's a 440 and a howards 235×241 duration @50×618 lift lsa 108 and I used a victor Jr intake with a Holly 850 hp I'm hoping for 550 hp. Next I will be building a 496.and I'm going to try to make 700+ hp on the street. Great video
Hi Richard, Thanks for the nice comment... Sounds like you have chosen some good components for that 427 to get to the numbers that you would like... I just like the way 427 sounds 😀 And good luck on that 496 Build....
Fddo you think with the cam shaft I have its a howards 235x241@50 618 lift I can make 550 hp or do I need to go up in camshaft like 248 x 255 any help would be appreciated thanks Rick427
Hi richard... More duration usually will help give you a higher HP number... But its hard for me to say for sure what size camshaft the engine would need to hit those numbers you'd like to hit.... To me its about a good combination of parts working together that give good HP Numbers.... You have good heads... Sounds like a good intake and I like the cam you have chosen for it and if your compression is pretty healthy It sounds like it sould be pretty close to the numbers you would like.... 👍
Hey by the way we dynoed my 427 and I got a big surprise the motor made 112 hp more then what I was expecting it made 661 hp and 605 torque at 32 degrees of timing with a 950 cfm carburetor on it I'm a happy man.
W0W..... that was fantastic 👏 👌 😀 You have out did yourself on this one !!! Thanks and please give us the camshaft details and what was the cost to your door ? Again Thank's !!!!
Thanks Mike.... Its appreciated.... The cam shaft is a Comp Cams Part # 11-771-8 Its a cam I picked out myself for the the conditions and intent of the car it was going into... Its always best to call Comp Cams with your combination and intent of use for their expert advice... I don't remember the cost at the time of purchase... You could go to Comp Cams Web page with the part # 11-771-8 to get current pricing...
AFR is the best hands down. Can you let me know the brand name or part number of your valve compressor tool. I like the way it looked to work so easily. The pneumatic compressor I use belongs to the shop so I want something extra for my home garage. Thanks.
Very happy with the choice of AFR. Don't know if you are familiar with "Nick's Garage" channel, but he dyno tested a 454 with those heads, if interested... I have had this compressor for 25-30 years and it was used when I got it, so I don't know if they still make it or not. But it's by K-D Manufacturing Co.- Part #308. Don't know if the company still makes this one anymore. Hope this helps.
@@Myersmetalworks I watch Nick's garage dyno channel and will have to look for the 454 heads. I am considering the AFR enforcer heads unassembled to build for my next 454 build. I usually port 781 GM heads for street builds. Thanks for KD number.
Playing with light and fire 😂😂🔥 Autolight 🤔🤷♂️ Brisk/NGK 👍 Was gonna ask ya about those rockers. Haven't used em but sounds like ur new to them as well. Got my Dad a set of ultra pro magnums for his mild 496. Think I may end up with a T&D setup - bushed. Not sure just yet.
Hi Miguel.... Look up on youtube (PERFORMANCE ENGINE BUILDING 201) I think his engine shop name is TRRC.... He would be a good choice for your 600hp 454 build...
I checked out many of your videos.. great goals and objectives. But gadamm Please change the music. It is aweful and takes away from your vocal effectiveness. Thanks godspeed.
Those head's are a work of art
Hi Justin.. Yeah... If they run as good as they look we're going to be set...👍
Excellent head for a 396 build 😊
For sure !!

Wow... 496 and AFR 265 heads.... I bet that thing is a torque monster... And thanks for the sub!!
Very nice presentation!
Thank you very much!

What is final compression ratio? Camshaft specs?
I'm sure it will be a very well thought out decision, and nice engine for your application.....
Compression around 10-1 and camshaft @ 50 Int 242 Ex 248 Cam lift Int .646 Ex .653 Cam is on a 110 lobe separation.....
