Solid tips, I especially liked the last one. There's no shame in packing up if you're not enjoying it, after all it's supposed to be fun and relaxing not some kinda miserable wilderness survival test :)
I find it funny when people suffer just to see if they can do it. I would much rather enjoy my time and be as comfortable as possible. I try my best to avoid danger in the first place.
Made me laugh out loud! You’re so right.
True but it all depends on the person, some people thrive on facing and beating a challenging situation, that is why they do things like hike trails that are hundreds of miles long or more and mountain biking long and difficult trails. You will not be in pleasant conditions the entire trip, if that was the case it wouldn't be challenging and to some it wouldn't be as rewarding. If you just want a peaceful escape from the 9-5 then yes leave when it loses it's relaxing appeal. You do you, don't worry about what others think!
I'm 22 and I've never been camping. I'm about to buy a simple 100 dollar kazoo tent and head out to the bay area 😂 I'm so excited
Sounds like fun. I'm sure you will have a good time.
How was it?
@@sampidgley2999 he enjoyed it so much, he never came back
@@tae912 lol
@@tae912 hahaha... nice .. hope he bring extra happiness too 🤣
I have watched a few videos that talk about "face your fears" but then yours were way more practical.
Camping near car, knowing your gear, being able to just pack and leave, amazing!
It's all about having fun and enjoying yourself. For me, camping is a way to escape from stress and hard times. I don't want to create even more challenging and stressful times in the woods. I would much rather go home, and try again some other day.
I used to camp every weekend and holiday while living in Banff and northern Ontario. I haven’t camped in 25 years and going to start all over again. Thank you for this, I feel trepidation now that I never felt when younger.
Once you get out there and start enjoying yourself, it will feel just like old times. If it's not fun, leave. Just make sure that you adjust for next time. The most important thing is that you stay excited for the next time.
@@newageselfreliance i actually live in the bush and spend most of my time outside there. Randomly over the years we have set up camp at home, so it’s not all that foreign thankfully. Clean up is my least favourite but this AMOK hammock (if dry) can be taken down and put away in 15-20 minutes on the kitchen table. Fabulous
Im going camping alone next week! 😱 wish me luck!
Good luck. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun.

@@timoshi119 I dont think he made it @-@
@@timoshi119 - I read about the local sheriffs looking for Sasquatch...wanted for sodomy. Maybe why he’s not talking about his trip!
Wow, had to double take on this underrated video. This not only applies to people camping alone, but for spouses that arent interested too!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. When I first brought my girlfriend camping my Jeep was packed top to bottom full of stuff making sure she would be as comfortable as possible. Now she loves camping and we go backpacking with MUCH less gear.
That would be me...I love it but my hubby...not so much. This summer I have upgraded everything. My biggest purchase was the Gazelle T4 pop out tent...wow is that thing amazing. 90 second setup...2 minute take down.
Next a popup cot with an airbed...I'm 62 so these old bones need comfort. I bought a shower tent to serve as the outhouse so I can be fully-contained at camp during the pandemic.
Then I've got my girlfriend, Black Betty. She doesn't talk much but when she does, she goes pew pew pew. 😎
I love it how he actually came back for the camera cause I was like "wait, you're leaving without your camera!"
I will never leave without my camera. It is probably the most expensive thing I have out there lol.
Of all the videos on the internet this was absolutely the most helpful for going camping solo. First saw this about a year ago and have half a dozen solo trips under my belt now. Like you said, each trip you learn something. Your last tip is gold by the way. If you’re not feeling it, no shame in calling it! That tip alone has made my camping life so much better. Hats off to you brother and thank you for the tips!
Glad it was helpful! It's nice to hear someone is actually using my videos to go solo camping. There is no shame in going home. I have left a trip lots of times. There is no point in suffering for no reason. Plus, the more and more trips you take, the better and better you will get at staying out longer and longer. It seems simple yet not very many people talk about it.
As someone who wants to start camping/solo camping this year, these tips sounded really reassuring and takes the pressure off of knowing everything right of the bat, or feeling shame for bringing lots of stuff until you learn what you need. Thanks for your useful perspective!
Glad it was helpful! We always talk about how "it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it." When you are first getting started who knows what you might need. Plus what I need may be very different than what you need. So bring as much as you can. The more experience you get the more you will leave the stuff you never use at home. If you focus on having fun and enjoying yourself the better you will get at camping alone.
excellent advise for someone who is truly on the edge of soloing. Addressing the keeping a car close and bringing everything you want to bring for comfort and then narrowing that down as you get comfortable over weeks , months, or whatever is really well said. Also - there is no shame in getting yourself set up and then packing up and bailing. its really empowering to know that you can do that as long as you know anyone who matters would view it as a sign of good trail sense or good common sense and nothing else. Being more savvy in solo camping will only help you when you go to camp with others. There will be many moments where you can help others if you have already internalized it yourself. Thanks for making the video!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. There is no point in being miserable just to be miserable. Going home, taking notes, and trying again is MUCH better than giving up and never going back. It takes time and practice; the more time and practice you get, the better and easier it becomes each time.
Yes! I bailed my first time this winter and felt so discouraged but everyone I know whose opinion I respect was very supportive.
I’m stealth camping solo at an awesome overlook near me. Hammock, tarp, ramen, and Netflix 😄
Sounds like a really good time.
I'm going solo camping in November to Stargaze. So excited. This video is great for beginners like me.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun on your trip.
I've done that... packed up and went home after setting up and eating dinner.
I'd also add tip number 6 - bring a camera and take a lot of pictures. Later down the road you can look at those pictures and remember the good times you had.
Thanks for the video
That is a good one. Most people just use their phones nowadays but it's hard to use it as a camera without letting it distract you from the camping experience. A dedicated Camera solves that problem.
When lounging by the lake (nice shot, btw), I was waiting for you to say, "Bring a book or magazines of interest." That does it for a lot of us.
The problem is most people don't buy books anymore. They just download it onto a device. When I talk about books I always have to say paperback or hardcover because owning a book that doesn't need batteries is really important sometimes.
Great advice. I also think it's about stepping out of your comfort zone and trying it. It can be hard sometimes but separating real fear from perceived fear helps. Took me nearly a full season of solo backpacking before I was comfortable.
That is true just doing it in the first place can be scary. It's also important that it takes time to learn what works best for you. There is no one perfect way for everyone. It takes time and practice to find what you truly want and need to be comfortable.
I camp alone at a river 8 miles from my house. I love it. I can go out there anytime I want. And stay as long as I want. I just do nothing. I just look and listen. No internet signal. No phone signal. Just nature and I.
That would be nice. It's an hour drive from my house to this river here. It makes it really hard to find the time to go. 8 miles would be perfect.
I really really love your commentary! Especially because of your sincere empathy for the amateur solo camper. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! We all had to start from the very beginning. I just hope I can help people take that first step because after that it only gets easier.
Nice :) My biggest issue solo camping is I easily get lost. Check for cell coverage and as a backup, pack a map or take a photo of the map
One of the best things you can do is set your compass in a preset direction. Have it pointed to a road or river or something you can find your way back to camp. I have a video where I explain it. ruclips.net/video/XuErDpd0wmw/видео.html
You said the key word here: Practice! greetings and excellent video as always
I don't think people understand that it takes time and practice to really find peace in the woods.
Great point about relying on what you brought, not your skills. I've been camping on and off since the 80s. And I got some excellent tips here. Thanks, man!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video.
I read the comments before watching the video and now I have to agree with what most of you said. This is indeed one of the best advises ever recorded.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks man. Great advice. Very sincere advice.
Thank you for not making me feel bad for buying all things camping on amazon 😂 i am temporarily without a house and me and my dog are trying to make this the most comfortable we can be. 😊
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully you are enjoying yourselves as much as possible.
Once again, awesome video! Keep em coming.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video.
As an absolute beginner, the first and last tips were great for me. Take everything I think I am going to need/want and work from there and don't torture myself if a particular trip is not going to plan. Thank you.
I'm glad I could help. The whole point of camping is to get out and enjoy yourself. Whatever you need to accomplish that is exactly what you need to do.
Great stuff really useful

Amazing advice. Excellently delivered. Great video brother, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great advice Kory, I just got back from a 6 day solo camping trip a few weeks ago. Only my 2nd time going solo. I had a nice time, very relaxing. It's just kind of weird not having anyone to talk to, takes some getting used to.
The days can get long when you're alone. It's nice being able to just relax and enjoy your surroundings with zero distractions though.
Good tips, haven't heard these before. Thank you !
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
One thing I'd like to add as well, Go to the place you are planning to camp too , to see if it fits your needs, because I went camping for the first time last week and didn't research the place, in summary we had to go to another place that was in the woods and not someone's "backyard"
But thank you so much , your tips made me more comfortable going camping out in the woods!
Great video! Thank you :-)
Glad you liked it!
Very solid tips.

Very good presentation!

Great, great tips. I really like your crawl, walk, run approach and building up skill. Thanks for the video.
We all have to start somewhere. I find the ones that start from the beginning seems to enjoy themselves much more than the people that just dive in headfirst.
Awesome video bro! I’m going solo camping this weekend and found this extremely helpful. Thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful.
Great tips..! Thank you for narrowing it down, there is a lot of thinking when camping.. this video clarified many things.. thanks.

Thanks man! Lots of good tips i didn’t even think about! I’ve grown up in the outdoors and have recently started planning my first solo camping trip!

Loved your tips.. I'm planning to do my first car camp soon and these tips just made it so much simpler. thank you 😃
Glad it was helpful!
Really great information!! But I think you should have mentioned and it should be probably number one most important Thang to do is let one or at least two people know where you're going to be and when you should be back in case something bad does happen.
I am planning to make a solo camping safety video and this will be on the top of that list for sure.
Great tips! I have a few solo trips planned this summer.
Good luck! I hope you have fun.
@@newageselfreliance thank you!
Solid video my man

Good stuff my guy . got a sub 👍
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Just realized I can use my crappy cooler for water to wash with after hiking, and use a better one to keep my food n drinks cold. Thanks the tips!
You can get collapsible buckets that work really well for taking "baths" after a hike. amzn.to/3eYm35p This one might be junk I don't know I just wanted to show you what I was talking about. You might be able to pick one up at a local store. There are silicone ones too but they take up more space.
Thank you for this, I need to get a confidence boost, going to try my first solo camping experience, end anxiety was killing me. Really appreciate it
I'm glad I could help. You will have to let me know how it goes.
thank you
You're welcome
Nice peaceful camping site. Setting up a camping tent for the first time is a challenge! And having a reliable gear is a must tip!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video.
nice tip bro
Happy to help.
Know that you have what you need before you need it. That is the best advice for a beginner I have ever heard. Thank you sir!!
You are very welcome!
I've always wanted to go camping but was scared to go alone. I still am but I'm planning on going camping alone and for the first time ever this summer
Start making a list of everything you might need now. That way you can be confident you aren't forgetting anything when the time comes. A perfect place to start is going through your house and looking at what you use the most at home. Whatever you use at home, you will need a camping variant for your trip.
Thanks for your reassuring video. Am going to try one night in NH with my dog for the 1st time and you gave me a little extra information to be successful. We are only going for one night this time, but if all goes well, more frequently.
I hope you have fun on your trip. You will have to let me know how it goes.
This was actually a great video.
I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Honestly mate this is a good video I'll be blunt ive seen a lot of utter bollocks being spued out but you just kept it honest and proper
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I really appreciate the support.
Good Idea to test your gear/tent to see if it usable solo.
I have a 6 person Slumber jack tent that is very easy to set up with two people but doing it solo is extremely hard. I practice everything at home alone before I even think about taking it camping with me.
You're such a great, cool guy. Wish I could find a friend like you :)
Thanks for tips!
I really appreciate all the kind words. Thank You so much for watching.
Great tips. Like and sub.
Thank You so much for watching. I truly appreciate the Support.
Very encouraging. I especially like #1 and #5 for beginners....loading up the car and leaving if youre not having a good time! Thank you for your support!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
My fav was "don't leave without camera gear" 😂
That would have been a very expensive mistake had I left it there. Thank You so much for the support.
Great vidoe yea I don't like being alone glad I have atlest my dog lol. But being a single parent for so long just me and Danielle it's tuff being alone. I tryed didn't like my heart didn't either sent me to the ER . Lol. But as taking to much that's me sadly I always forget something really need also lol. But you have a good week and yea to be out by the water in nature it does help me most of the time to relaxe and injoy. Tired of towns and so many people. Have fun and god bless
You should make a list of everything you actually use on each trip. It will help you never forget anything and also you will see how little you actually use when having fun outdoors.
@@newageselfreliance yea I did while back but we didn't get to go for so long and the list have no idea we're it is. But once I get a camper or fix my Brown cargo trailer I'll have it set up with everything I need and make a list to hang in side to check off. But yea I take to much because just Incase something happens. The only thing we really don't have is the small or big blanket or sheets and no pillows to take. But I'm working on that. If I could just use a tent be on the ground to sleep be so much easier. Lol. Thanks for the advice I'll always listen to any help. Happy 4th and god bless
What do you love the most about camping? It's the stargazing part for me as someone who grew up in the city.
I love the freedom. I like self-reliance and being responsible for myself without a care in the world. If I want to eat I cook, if I'm tired I sleep. The ability to live without worry is probably my truly favorite part.
@@newageselfreliance That's amazing
Thank you for sharing. Am In Ghana. Will start a camping channel soon...
Thank You so much for watching. I truly appreciate the Support.
Oh my gosh, you gave me a good laugh at the end with the "dont forget your camera gear". Thank you for these tips! Any tips for sleeping at night and comforting yourself if/when you hear sounds?
I also appreciate how kind you are. You aren't shaming anyone for their inexperience or fears. Great video overall
I always sleep with my keys in the tent with me. So if I hear something outside the tent I can press the lock button on my keyfob and my vehicle makes a chirping sound reminding me it's already locked. That chirp sound will scare away any animal in the area. You can also use your car alarm if you really want to scare off everything in the area. Just keep in mind if you are at a campsite with other people the chirp most people can sleep through and won't think anything about it but the alarm could make some people crabby.
Great video man. Do one on where to actually go in detail.
Here is a video of me looking at campsites while harvesting fatwood ruclips.net/video/DtMJs8NFD5U/видео.html
This is great advice! I went camping for the first time with an expert friend a couple of years ago and I loved it and want to do it again, but by myself. It was the first time I had scotch eggs over a campfire and they tasted the best!
Everything tastes better over the campfire. There is a feeling of freedom that comes with solo camping that you really can't get anywhere else.
We just got back from a camping trip, family. I’m going back alone, I feel good about it. Going to the same spot, with my books and maybe a puzzle to put together.
great video, totally solid tips!!! "subbed" i have been solo camping with my dogs for close to 15 years. i only camp by canoe or kayak and my sites river access only pvt land .. in 15 years i have never used anything exept my ferrel rod and fat wood, i can make fire in a driving rain! ... the solitude with my dog is so amazing, the dog in my avatar is my main camping buddy, i never go without him, he's extemely well trained.
I have a German Shepard that I thought was going to be the best camping buddy ever. Turns out she hates camping. She hates sleeping in a tent and hates being away from home. She is an amazing guard dog and watches over our house really well but she has no interest in ever leaving the yard.
You should do a video about that! Sounds epic!
