There won't be anything better ever, it's pretty obvious. Easily the greatest show of all time. Early noughties were a good time before reality tv ruined tv. First season of Sleeper Cell, Oz, Street Time, the 1st couple seasons of Sopranos before it became a soap opera. And no, The Wire can't hold a candle to the magnificence of The Shield.
As someone who tilts strongly to thought-provoking pieces on TV, i really recommend Six Feet Under being the only thing above The Shield on my tier list. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are fun too, similar to The Shield in some aspects like often-present multiperspectivity of events (Six Feet Under on the other hand spends more time on individual character transformation paths). Also The Sopranos i guess, but i need to rewatch it, cause the first and only time yet i watched it with the wrong attitude and i took everything that happened in a super-serious manner when many of it is played for laughs. And because of that as well i wouldn't call it as good as the other mentioned by me - if you get the superficiality of American Dream and also understand that mob are humans too and can have depression and shit, then don't expect much from it to tell you

HERE IN 2022 Im 23 my big bro who is 44 showed me this show called "The Shield" so i could see how things really were in his days. Took me 2 months to take his advice & watchit. And lemme tell you this show is one of the greatest & I don't even like getting into series but definetley changed my look on life a bit & showing my kids this if i have some for sure! It's really really something else the way this song ends the episode of mice and Lem and the way it really illustrates how the killer in me is the killer in you between Vic and Shane and really all four of them I mean in those last couple of minutes it's all right there in the song and in the eyes of Shane the way he's saying we're going to go through the motions but you know and I know what I have to do
