How did you know I needed this? I’m literally fried, to the point where my impulsivity has intensified. Thanks for sharing this!

I’m not surprised that so many women feel burnt out since so many of us who work also carrying the weight of running the household and raising the children. It’s WAY TOO MUCH.

My job description dramatically changed after 4 years in the job. The pay is slightly better and there are elements of the job that I love, but it's SO physically and emotionally exhausting now. There are elements of the job that I love, but I also have sensory issues. So now I'm more bombarded with sensory overload, I have more demands physically and to top it off, I have less autonomy and less control of my environment (sensory-wise) now too. I'm totally drained by the time I get home. I was in a worse situation a few years ago, but it got so bad I had nothing left in me at the end of the day to look for something else. That was beyond difficult. 😣 So I'm being smart this time and planning my escape now while I have the bandwidth. I've advocated for myself to work a few less hours and I'll be advocating for a few more accommodations. Meanwhile, I'll work on my creative side-hustle. That will be my bridge to freedom. 🙏

I am just coming accross your page and wow, it's been so encouraging so far! I'm in a job that offers alot of freedom but I do crave more and actually have a desire that I do supress to create content online along the lines of homemaking, having adhd and working - thank you for sharing!

I did my student teaching with a teacher who had to be in her 70s. I told her my burnout story and she was honest and said that she sympathized because she could not relate. But she also really really struggled with retiring. I don't know if that generation has that concept of burnout in the sense that they tie so much of their identity to their career. Whereas I think burnout might come because we are in a crisis.

That's interesting. I think burnout in that generation wasn't so much of a thing because they weren't inundated with media, information, hyper comparison, etc.

I get burned out because I haven't been able to find a job that respects me being a late chronotype. I am in constant sleep deficit. And then there is the pay... I have taken several classes in negotiation, but it doesn't work. None of the classes take the social cost for women into consideration... I dream of being my own boss. Sleeping enough, and having the flexibility to control my own time, so I can work out earlier and go back to work re-energized. I can work more when the energy is high, and less when I have down periods.

My burnout comes from my own perceived expectations or if a routine process regularly hits delays.

Ugh, think I've broken my record on burning out. My issue is I overcommit to interests. Specifically, I do say "No" but then no one steps up, so I do.

You don't have to be the hero to others - only yourself 😊

My adhd burnout isn't related to work. I love my job but can't do it at the moment. My brain is fried and has bravado super hyper-active. This means i get sensory overload at the tiniest stimuli, and my focus and concentration is almost non existent .😢

1000 on cynicism. I see people become cynical when they have burnout. That's my indication that they are actually starting to look at their job less. Then the process of them having quit their job and still collecting their checks. Maybe because of stress, or sitting on the fence of what they are going to do about their feelings. So then, unchecked I end up seeing a good portion dropping their productivity below the role of their job to be let go and walked out. This is semi skilled labor area in manufacturing. ADHD is higher. And especially in food service/retail where it was highest. There are people that decided to do better and make the transition. I focused on myself and increased work ethic for me and it paid off. It really has.

Excellent resource! Awesome advice. The only thing I was unsure about was working really hard to retire early, then enjoying freedom. Sounds good, but also sounds ideal. How could something like this work without getting further into debt if you needed to switch careers to make more money?

Check out the FIRE movement. I'm not an expert, but the idea really resonated with me. Also, I would challenge the belief that you need to go into debt to make more money.

How kind of you to point out the ‘mistake’ good job people with ADHD can laugh this off because we do this all the time!
