If you like the version of Trilogy in this video you can purchase it at gog.com for around 10-15 dollars. No complicated controller setup either it’s very straight forward.
The limited music is due to using red book audio. The game itself isn’t that big but the audio was the real killer of CD storage. Unfortunately it resulted in certain tracks not being around, and also resulted in MK1 stages not getting their proper tracks. On PS1 and Saturn there were less expensive codecs that could’ve done all of this and then some at the expense of a little bit of clarity. Though it makes me wonder if PC was lead platform for this build and the PS and Saturn versions are branches of it. Because I know MK Trilogy on N64 was a completely different game that used MK3 PC as its base, which is why they play so different.
Very thorough I appreciate you sharing this, I played through MK3 for PC just the other night and thought it was very good as well. Didn’t realize Trilogy for N64 used this version as its base but it makes sense as I definitely see similarities between those two versions now that you mentioned it. Thanks for the comment! 👊🏼
This is the version I set up for Jojo's MK Trilogy cabinet! I always hated loading times in my "arcade" games but loved the PS1's option of having the bosses so this was a great option. It also runs in a more arcade friendly manner. I need to add it to my MAME cab! I'm still not finished with the video but I'm impressed with your gameplay already. I SUCKED at this game haha.
Great video! I was so hoping for a 30th anniversary kollection of 1/2/3/U/T (especially on Switch) but sadly here we are still waiting. They could even add in the home versions (klassics only) and full museum mode with artwork and all the original magazine ads and promos! How AWESOME would that be 👊🏻
I never understood why they make the easy version of the game difficult. It should be one that allows you to practice and get muscle memory before going to the next level.
I've played MKT in my PS1 a lot when I got the PC version years later. And first thing I noticed was that , as you said, it was the PS1 version ported to PC and that was great. Although they could've removed that key configuration icon and add a 3 on 3 mode, since there were no loading times. Anyway, for me it was like let's give it another round. In that MKT I played, all five intro screens could be found in the game's folder and they were just plain bmp images. So, you could replace or edit them, which I did, of course. I don't know if this can still be done in the version you played. Also, that game is stucked in its original raster resolution of 240p and you can't use filters to enhanced it like you can on emulators. But then again, this version you played looks great, so I think it's been modded or something.
@@TheBoofGod It definitely is. But ironic that after 3, the other games didn't even come close to the level of difficulty MK3 had. That always made me wonder.
PC version is the best 32 bit based version as the loading times are pretty much at the start and once you're playing is like you're playing either the N64 or the Arcade versions of MK3, but yeah... is very difficult overall (at least you don't need to use a cheat code to get Freeplay mode for continues). Edit: How funny they pulled out a SNES UMK3 "fail"tailities here (making reference to MK1 Kano's "Animality" at that failed attempt on the Endurance Stage) that you can "perform?" when you enable 1 button finishers and use a finisher that your character doesn't have (except in this case they do their win pose like if you attempt to do a stage fatality on a stage that doesn't have it), the only nitpick I have of the 32-bit MKT versions is the MK3 OST feels kinda wrong (in some cases can be fixed with a mod like the Ps1 version). Edit: The MK3 Arcade artworks for the vanilla characters AND some others like Scorpion and Raiden ARE also on the 32-bit console versions (Ps1 and Saturn), however on N64 since it's just a Saturn conversion of UMK3 with some edits you just get the UMK3 Bios-style endings.
The secret to this AI is the same as ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. You can get them to run in by jumping back and kicking, and they will run at you or throw a projectile. If they run, jump straight up to a kick into a combo. If they throw a projectile some of them, you can jump over the projectile and hit them. Others, you can wait for them to run at you again. I think I did a Playthrough on this version a while back. I was planning on doing a PlayStation one play through on trilogy and on that video you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about. Great video man. 👍
I’m gonna screen shot this, I’m familiar with those strats but feel like I need to beat them into my subconscious because I always forget. Thanks for the comment MEL this helps 👊🏼
I had this version on my spare laptop. This right here is as close as you're going to get to an arcade version. It's too bad it wasn't released in arcades honestly.
This version is faster than UMK3, and uses the sample voices from MK2 for the round announcement as well as the "Wins" word. I have a version that has the MK3 voice, and runs at a lower framerate to be closer to the arcade version of UMK3, and the N64 version of MKT. It also has the right music for the UMK3 stages, and other minor fixes. If you want Darryl, I can send it to you for download, though I can not promise that it would be any easier to beat lol
That’s awesome I’d love to try it 👊🏼 as for the difficulty it is what it is I’ve accepted that for many of the MK games but I just love the games so much it doesn’t matter to me I’ll play them anyways lol if you wouldn’t mind hit me up in discord and we can chat in there 👊🏼 Edit: I just checked out your channel, are you THE Master Linkuei whose name I see in the credits of many of the Mugens that I’ve played? If so, I salute you my friend you work on some incredible versions of Mortal Kombat!
If they ever re-release this for modern systems with 1-2-3 and ultimate they need an option with different AI.Street fighter 3rd strike(besides the final boss)is like playing against a real opponent
Speaking of the end boss in SF3, while I really like that game I find the end boss WAY too hard. I need to play it again though as your comment just gave me the itch lol thank you 👊🏼
Damn yeah, this has gotta be the best version, at least for playing with a friend! the difficulty situation is quite a shame though. I'll probably stick to the Saturn version for single player (which is just like the PS1 version, but with slightly faster loading times [still slow though lol] ), But i'm definitely gonna get this GOG MS DOS version for multiplayer! Now, if only the N64 version wasn't missing 7 characters, and other content.. that would be the best overall version i feel like. Just simply too much missing content for me though (and that's the version i had growing up, so even nostalgia can't bring up the 64 version from last place for me)
Best way to defeat the big ole E match’s is get a hit on the enemy and take no damage or have most health and just walk back and forth till time runs out. The ai will just go back and forth with you.
Its the best version. No load times. But had his problems too. The ground from the arenas seems to not be fixed in place and moves with characters. Also it is really difficult to make it work in modern PCs, but now there is GOG version.
The version of this game on GOG is actually the windows version, patched to work on newer systems. The original CD release of this game did support both Windows and DOS. Also some of the music in the GOG version plays at the wrong pitch and speed.
Mr Tsung! I met with you on fightcade last time but alas Greece is too far to play! I have spent my life trying to get this version to run properly without the hideous gog filter that messes the colors and blurs the image - i have partially done so by using reshader. Please please do me a favor: can you try the Baraka beheading fatality and tell me if the game crashes? I know it sounds odd but you may be my only chance to know if anyone else has the same issue? Thanks a ton for all your great videos!🙂
This is THE legit version to get in my opinion. It’s not a fan made Mugen but the real deal and at 15 bucks it’s definitely worth it! Thanks for the comment Ellen 🙏🏽
Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the N64 was like $80 when it came out. No wonder the PS1 version sold more and was better in almost every way except the load times.
The PC version is the same as PS1 and Saturn in difficulty, it is an easy game if you know the method of killing the characters which is the same for everyone, the difficult fight for me is Kintaro's endurance with Motaro
Back in the day I played this version long before the psx and n64 versions. Best version by far. Between MK Trilogy and Blood Omen, I just felt bad for those who only played on psx versions not knowing about the superior pc versions with no loading.

Good Stuff
does the MS DOS version detects USB Arcade controller ? Mortal Kombat is best with arcade stick
I prefer the PS1 version. The sound was great and enjoyed having the boss characters
This version looked amazing! I was genuinely surprised. I really wanna play this. Great video as always.

MK Trilogy for MS-DOS
Arcade Perfect 👌
MK Trilogy was not released in the arcade though.
Still remember owning and playing this on DOS back in the day. Great stuff.
I had forgotten I had this as a kid. The difficulty was so hard.
If only the character select music can optionally be switched also to MKI and MKII themes, that would be perfect 🥲
That would be sweet.
Wow,I had no idea this version even existed! That's bad ass.
man i love your videos. always watching while working. keep the great work!
Thanks Danilo I appreciate the comment! 👊🏼
I never understood why they make the easy version of the game difficult. It should be one that allows you to practice and get muscle memory before going to the next level.
Funny fact: the US version of Capcom arcades are harder than the Japanese versions.
Everytime I see a new upload from your channel I get excited 😄

Scorpion does not have his Pack fatality in Trilogy. It is replaced with Hell Hand, which needs to be performed from a certain distance. :/
He does have it

That’s very easy mode? Did they actually play test it? Absolutely ridiculous
That setting means you start on easy mode. Those old MK games always get progressively more difficult as you climb the tower.
I was told when you turn down the difficulty in MK games it actually makes it harder.
Not exactly harder, it makes the first character more random and unpredictable. Since people like to exploit the CPU"s reactions, it becomes more complicated when it doesn't get as aggressive as possible.
But the difficulty in MK games is also progressive, it gets more difficult after each match you win and gets toned down when you use a continue. So even if you play on easy, you're might eventually reach the hardest level by the time you get to the final boss if you don't lose.

Yes. it's the same as PS1 and Saturn.
The backgrounds look a little muffled though, not a bad pc port.
