  • Replacing the main drive belt is part of regular maintenance on any vehicle. If the belt is cracked, torn or starts to squeal it should be replaced. It should also be replaced about every 40k miles or so.

    After being convinced my belt was too small and trying to find the "correct" one. I watched your video and did everything you did and got the belt on first (50th) try. Thanks for posting!!

    Love your videos. A little long-winded sometimes but overall all good info. It's nice to see an every day Joe doing these repairs in his garage vs. the fully decked out mechanic working on an engine that's on a bench. Real world situations that you handle well - even with the occasional oops (like the flywheel drop in the IMS segments).
    Just know that your videos are appreciated - and thanks for sharing!

    Ben I hope you're well and it would be amazing to see a new video at some point (on anything) ...you're a natural and very watchable.

    Thanks Ben. Your video gave the motivation to do it myself. This weekend I replaced my drive belt. As usual it took a little bit longer to do the job. But Yeh....... that's me. Most of the time there are one or two bolds leftover in the end. Now I coudn't find any......

      Might want to put the cover on finger tight first. If that belt flies loose, not sure you want to be sitting inches away from what would happen next without the cover to protect you.

    Thanks Ben. Refer to your videos a lot having bought a 986 3.2S 2004. Done a number of jobs, took me months to identify coolant loss. Eventually used fluorescent dye in the coolant and found leak at waterpump with uv torch. Replacing next. Thanks again.
    Ps also tried blue dye method to eliminate emissions in coolant. Stayed blue thank goodness!!!

    On my 1999 Boxste, I removed belt to install new water pump. On reinstallation of the belt, I noticed the AC pulley could rotate freely. Is this normal? Car has 40k miles.

    Increase the playback speed to 1.5X and it is tolerable to listen to, and it brings him up to almost normal speech rate.

    Very good video I was wondering if you checked your rollers? I checked mine and they did not sounds smooth to me, have you looked for rollers and if you did what brand is the best? Again a great job!!

    • @BurnersCars

      +William Carroll All my rollers seemed pretty smooth when I was in there. Are your rollers noisy? I'd expect them to be a bit noisy if they're bad.

    Hey man is this like a timing belt ? Those this car have a timing belt ? I did the IMS and RMS on my Porsche ..also replaced the AOS but it sorta feels like its idle off just a bit ...that doesn’t have to do anything with timing belt or chain ?

    • @martinmessersmith2900
      @martinmessersmith2900 5 лет назад

      This belt has nothing to do with timing, just runs the accessories (alternator, A/C compressor, water pump). Could be plugs or coils - just a thought.

    I hate to say this.. but this is 1/10th the trouble compared to replacing the serpentine belt in my 1998 Diesel Bug !.. the factory procedure to do that.. involves removing the front of car !

    doesnt even know what to call a pulley! or anything else LOL

    • @BurnersCars
      @BurnersCars  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Tim,
      Your sentence doesn't contain any pronouns or subjects, so it's not at all clear who you're talking about. I'll assume you're saying you don't know what a pulley is. I would suggest you don't worry about it. You're clearly really struggling to form coherent sentences. You should try to master the English language, then worry about the names of common car parts.

    • @timcasteel3866
      @timcasteel3866 7 лет назад

      Yep. Not a single inference can be made of context. You say all of that because I left out the obvious YOU 😅

      Yet he does all his own maintenance on his Porsche saving himself lots of $$$. Does it really matter? I think it speaks to a lot of people that even a person that doesn't know all the right names for the car parts can still do the work if they set their mind to it.
