I spend hours on this kind of stuff Joe & notice all that you mention here. I wish I could write down every single thing I come up with... Not impossible but....! I have written out loads of things though & they all sound musically cool. I combine them with sequenced & chromatic ideas & often I'll reharmonize the chords. Quite simply, I love it. I went to a social gathering last night but left after 15 minutes because I just wanted to play that bass...;-)) PS, you come up with cool lines, Cheers as always!
Great lesson! A question: instead of (or besides) the use of a diatonic different tonality, how about using some chromatic minor pentatonic scale to create lot of -short- tension, such as D#? for example in the second half of the D minor pattern...?
Playing that whole lick in D# wouldn't really work, but I talk about how to apply that 'outside' concept in my video on Side Slipping: ruclips.net/video/Y1ieGXtxekk/видео.html
Hey Guys- I've got something good for you- check it out! All the Bass- Joe
Yea! As always, something that can be immediately used. Thanks!
Thanks Mark!
Absolutely fantastic....
You make bass playing so interesting Joe.
Awesome lesson and a great breakdown to show the simplicity of something that sounds complex! Reach For It is one of the best bass solos ever!
Thanks Keith! Yes- Byron sounds great on Reach For It!
Cool stuff Joe..Thanks once again .
Cheers Bro!
Cant wait to see you at The 2019 NAMM SHOW I have so many questions , I didn't geta chance to see you at NAMM this year , hopefully this time I will.
I'll be there on the Warwick stand- come along and say hi. Best- Joe
What you're doing, in essence, is explaining modes of the minor pentatonic scale and playing them over the original key.
Indeed sick!
Cheers Martin!
Great Joe!!! Tower of Power style ;)
